Marty Tile and Renovations

I am giving Marty 1 star because of his terrible customer service and care. The initial experience with him was ok. He came for a quote in a timely manner and got back to me right away with a number. He was on the high end of pricing compared to other quotes I received but I decided to still go with him due to his efficient responses. He was upfront about his timelines and though they were slow I was not in a rush and was ok with it. The install of the actual tile was decent but the grout and sloppy-ness of the mortar was terrible. The tiles were level, lined up well and were cut/measured well. But when it came to the grout and cleaning the mortar off of the tile the work was terrible. There were fingerprints all over the faces of the tiles and a grout haze on all of the tiles. I contacted Marty on January 23rd to come and clean the tiles better. He got back to me the next day asking me to clean it with vinegar and let him know if it doesn't work. We spent about an hour cleaning with vinegar and water and it did nothing but off colour a couple of the spots on the tiles. After this I asked him again to come a clean it up. He went back and forth multiple times telling me he's busy and that he doesn't work weekends. Finally he came out to clean it. He looked at the tile, told me he doesn't have the right stuff to clean it but don't worry about it, it will clean up no problem. His partner came on Feb 13 to clean the tile and achieved absolutely nothing. He tried again a couple days later with no success. After that I contacted multiple times again to come and clean it properly and he told me he was busy. I told him we have a baby on the way in March and want this all done before. On Feb 28 I told him he needs to come and fix the issues ASAP. He said he was busy all week so I said come and do it quick on the weekend. He sent me a message in all capitals saying he does not work weekends and that if I am not happy with the work I should clean it myself. 6 weeks after the job was done he was arguing with me about coming to clean it. I tiled another bathroom myself 2 weeks after he did our master bath and shower and had no issues with the grout.
I would avoid working with Marty purely on the *** poor customer service when confronted about issues. He promised me a flawless job and that he was a professional but did not uphold that statement.
I ended up cleaning the tile myself with the proper cleaning chemicals. It took me about 6 hours but the haze a grout "blotches" are removed.

I had marty tile re do my 2 fireplaces and they turned out better than I imagined and he made suggestions that I’m glad we went with.
They always arrived when they said they would and always cleaned up after themselves which was nice.
I would totally recommend them for renovations.
