First, I must apologize, I was only recently made aware of this claim or my response would have been more timely
We always feel bad when unexpected maintenance issues occur on any car that we sell and we always try to help in any way that we can. We understand ALL to well that owning
and maintaining used cars can be very frustrating. We are always hopeful that our vehicles will stand the test of time, however we only resale the vehicles, we don't manufacture them, neither do we have enough built in profit to warranty the cars (if a warranty is not purchased) or to bring them back to new or like new condition
We wish that the customer would have come to us sooner, we could have done much more. We regret any misunderstanding that may have developed regarding who's responsibility it was to check such things as the timing belt.
On any "As Is" automobile that we sell, if wear parts break after months of usage; such as timing belts, causing internal engine damage, we do not feel it is our responsibility to reimburse the customer for this. We do often check timing belts and we often replace them if needed, however this one we did not replace nor do we recall checking it, if we had, we would have passed the info on to the customer, or just replaced it. In this case we left this up to the customer. We always recommend that the vehicle be maintained and we make this very clear at the time of purchase with our DEALER POLICY STATEMENT, which the customer signed. It states in big, bold, underlined print, "I understand that it is ultimately the buyer's responsibility to determine any and all faults, whether mechanical or other, present or developing. In buying this vehicle, you also buy any and all problems which are inherent with the vehicle, and it is your responsibility to repair them, not the dealer's."
We were not informed about the problem with the Toyota until after it was scrapped. Had we been informed we could have repaired it for about $700.00, still a lot, but very fair
Regarding the Volvo, most of the problems mentioned were inexpensive repairs. It had a misfire problem, that occurred intermittently. We didn't find any critical problems, that would prevent it from being driven. The customer was informed that it would take some time to resolve these issues if we were going to keep the cost down, since, unlike the Toyota, the Volvo required specialized troubleshooting and repair. The customer, being unwilling to wait for us to squeeze the repair into our schedule, and unwilling to pay to have the problem expedited, removed the car from the lot.
We feel bad that this customer is upset with us. We always try to be as fair as possible, but there is only so much we can do for free
Purchasing a Toyota Camry whose Kelley Blue Book LOW BOOK VALUE was $2300, and the customer got it for $1800, and a Volvo STwhose Kelley Blue Book LOW BOOK VALUE was nearly $and the customer got it for $minus $for the tra (that we had to repair), leaving $out of pocket they got a GREAT deal

Review: My car was reposessed after payment was made and the car nor the payment was returned. Dealer stated he tried to contact me but had a wrong number. I feel the dealer is robbing me he never called. Upon looking over my contract it doesn't even ask to provide a phone number.
