Marymount University Reviews (2)

Review: Earlier this year my wife [redacted] applied for acceptance into the Marymount University Physical Therapy class that began this fall.

During the interview [redacted] was told by University staff that she would be contacted as to their decision within a few months. She was also warned NOT to call the university and inquire about her status. In fact she was told that doing so would lessen her chances of acceptance! In spite of this threat, by late July, we felt a need to know something. Hence on emailed the admissions department, no one answered our email and after a few weeks we made a second inquiry and it was never answered.

Obviously [redacted] was not accepted into the program. It is now late October and we have not heard a single word from anyone at the University!

This is shameful, uncaring, and completely unprofessional. It see** obvious at this point that Marymount University is happy to take an applicants payment of fees and do absolutely nothing afterwards.Desired Settlement: 1. I would like the Revdex.com to know about the shoddy business practices of Marymount University. At the very least perhaps, other applicants could be forewarned of the callus treatment, intimidation tactics and general unprofessional behavior that is practiced during the application and admissions process at this, supposedly, esteemed University.

2. I would like an explanation from the University explaining their failure to inform my wife and me of its decision to reject her.

Dear **. [redacted]:

I am writing on behalf of Marymount University's Graduate Admissions and Physical Therapy Department in regards to the compliant ID # [redacted] had applied to Marymount University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program in the fall of 2012. [redacted] was invited to interview for the program scheduled for February 2, 2013. [redacted] attended interview day along with roughly 180 other candidates. During the interview all applicants were given instructions on what to expect after the interview. The instructions were provided to the group as a whole in which [redacted] was a part of. Applicants were told they would be notified of a decision via email by the Graduate Admissions office by February 8th. They were asked to please refrain from contacting the PT department prior to the 8th sihce they would still be processing decisions. Instructions were given to all applicants to check their email and to contact the Graduate Admissions office if they did not receive a decision.

In regards to the claim that she was told not to contact the office or it would lessen her chances of acceptance, are not substantiated. We have students in our program that could verify the instructions that were given that day and the next steps. In addition, [redacted] was emailed her decision on February 8th at 11:44a.m. from Anna Jordan in the Graduate Admissions Office {see attachment A). The email address was the email provided from [redacted] on her application and was the same email we used to invite her to interview day. At this time, our office does not have any record of her contacting us during the month of July.

To the claim that Marymount "is happy to take an applicant's payment of fees and do absolutely nothing afterwards" is also unsubstantiated. All applicants must apply to a centralized application service.

PTCAS. PTCAS charges applicants an application fee that is paid to PTCAS not the institution (see website www.ptcas.org/fees/). Marymount does not benefit from any fees that PTCAS requires. Marymount charges a supplemental fee of $30 that goes directly to the institution to cover processing of the applications.

Marymount apologizes if [redacted] did not receive the initial decision. However, it was emailed on the date that was given to all applicants as provided in this letter.

Review: I recently withdrew myself from Marymount University after months upon months of harassment from staff members. I requested that I receive a refund of my room and board and tuition which cost more than $18,000 for the semester. I was told that I would receive any moneys that didn't include scholarships issued by the school or government grants (which would be returned to the government). The school sent me a check for $174 and some change and tried to say that we're "even" and that ALL the rest of the thousands of dollars that was paid to them (in loans, private scholarships, etc) and wasn't a school scholarship or grant had be returned to me. However, my scholarships and grants did NOT cover all of my tuition and I was forced to take out loans to pay the difference. There is no way that all of those moneys were spent ($18,000) in the three weeks of the semester that I spent at the school, and yet, they are trying to tell me that ALL the money was spent on room and board, as IF it costs nearly $6,000 to shelter and feed someone for 3 weeks (this is the rate they charge for the ENTIRE semester and are charging me for 3 weeks, so I find it hard to believe that I should be paying for all of a semester when I stayed for a fraction of it, especially since I was told that I would receive my money back for the remainder of the semester that I did not spend at the school). I have a 4.0 GPA, was Vice President of History and Politics Club, was the Cultural Arts Chair for the Marymount University Programming Board and on and on it goes. I was a perfectly good student, with a few issues with how corrupt my school was, so they harassed me until I left and are now trying to screw me out of anything and everything that they can. The day I moved out (after VOLUNTARILY WITHDRAWING because I was so exhausted from the constant harassment) they even went to the extent of trying to tell me that I had a specific amount of time to pack my things and leave.. they shaved 3 hours off of this time on a whim, because the RUDE, condescending dean that I spoke to didn't like that I pointed out how rude she was being. This just goes to show that there is NO way to reason with these people or expect any sort of fair outcome. They refuse to answer phone calls, emails, and other communications and refuse to give an explanation as to how all of my money was spent on "room and board." They also refuse to respond to requests for an itemized list of expenses and payments made on my account. I am beyond frustrated by the lack of professionalism exhibited by the people at this University, as well as the lengths that they will go to to rob a 21-year-old of THOUSANDDDDDS of dollars, for no reason, except to spite her and make her life harder. That is just disgusting and unacceptable. I want my money back so that I can move on from the horrendous experience that was my time at Marymount (ha! Catholic Charity, LOL!).Desired Settlement: I want my money back. Whatever wasn't covered by scholarships and grants needs to make its way into my pocket. My money is my money and they are not going to keep it when providing me ZERO services.
