The customer neglected to mention the following :
His job was scheduled for the week of July 4th however he did not provide his colors until July 16th so it is difficult to schedule a job when you cannot purchase the paint! Obviously that would cause a delay in addition we had already informed...

him that we were running a bit behind due to all the rain we had had.
Our guys were only on the jobsite about 20 minutes when the customer called to tell me that they did not know what they were doing and that they had damaged his property. My next stop of the day was to this customer as I needed to show him the colors that we had matched for him so when he called me I told him I was with another customer but that we could talk about everything when I got there. He was very rude and told me that he wanted to speak to my manager and someone who could speak English (I am the owner of the company and a US Citizen). 
My guys had gone ahead and were only getting ready to start preparation work . He was very aggressive with the painters who paint about 200 houses a year and know exactly what to do - I do not have to hold their hands to do sanding and caulking.
When I got there the so called damage to the landscape was a couple of stems that was broken off a plant that was in a planter and that should have been moved by the customer and the gate was not damaged the painters had to remove the pin to allow the gate to open all the way so they could work and get ladders in and out as there was only about 4 feet of space that they could work in between the customers house and the neighbors house.
From the minute the guys arrived the customer had a bad attitude towards them and after he pushed a ladder at one of them I pulled them off the job. They did not deserve to be treated in that manner and the customer was telling them they did not know what they were doing before they had even lifted a brush. We have been in business since 1993 and paint about 200 homes a year and we have never been treated like that on a job site.
The customer signed a contract which clearly states " If work has begun (Color Consultation, pressure washing or painting) the full deposit will be forfeited". However as a gesture of good faith I offered to return the customer's deposit minus the costs we had incurred up to that point plus $10 to replace the "damaged" plant but he did not accept.
