Mastro Kitchen Studio Reviews (1)

I had a kitchen installed by this company and the installers damaged my wood floor (scratched/gouged) in a couple areas.
The installers cut inside my house (covering it in dust), they wore shoes, and did not protect the floors.
I noticed it right away. The installers even tried to cover the damage using a black marker. I also texted pictures the day of this happening to the kitchen designer I was working with.
After emailing pictures of the damage to the owner, I went to pay for the balance owing. I was hoping to come to an understanding ( financial agreement) with the owner. After saying that his worker denied damaging my floor the owner offered *** discount.
The coast of replacing my floor would run well over ***
The floor boards cannot be replaced because of where the damage is at. (male/ female boards running under counters/cupboards). I would basically need to redo flooring remove cupboards and reinstall.
I also wanted to mention:
Floor damage aside the back of my smoothie bar wasn't completed as per the designs and I now have to install a backsplash to cover the gap. (another added cost I will need to cover myself).

I have pictures of the damage but the site didn't let me attach the file.

Desired Outcome

Billing Adjustment Total job was *** The balance owing upon completion of project was $*** I suggested to the owner to pay $*** instead which I thought was fair considering I will have to pay more to fix it or live with the damage. He refused offering *** I gave the owner *** toward the completion balance in good faith. The new balance owing is $*** I am hoping to get $*** ( half of the coast of repair). I would have settled for the *** had the owner been reasonable with me.

Mastro Kitchen Studio Response

We installed this kitchen in March. Customer installed own floor and due to improper prep work the floor was off up to 1.25" in some areas. Nevertheless, my installers managed to do an excellent job. It is true that my installer touched up a dent with a touch-up pen but it was done as a courtesy, not as an admission to the fact. If and when my installer damages something he is to report it both to the customer and to us. He denies having damaged anything.
I offered to accept $3,400.00 out of $3,682.90. The $282.90 discount (not $200) was offered mainly to close the file and move on. We have been trying to go back and complete the installation for a number of months but customer was never available for various personal reasons...

Customer Response

I do not agree with the 282.90 offered as a discount since it does not cover the repair for my floor that was in fact damaged by the installers from ***. The house where the renos were done is over 100 years old and there is in fact lower part of the house. Most of the work done with the installation is in fact acceptable, I am not complaining about that, but it does not take away the damage caused to the floor. The installers were the only trade in at the time of the incident. I left a key hidden for the designer to let the installers in. When I came home the house was very dusty and messy since the installers had cut inside the house (again a mess I was left to clean: fine wood dust everywhere even in all the window cracks). I washed the floors and immediately send a text to the designer to inform her of the damage. (I also have copies of all communications regarding this matter). She informed me that she was to add it to the file and informed her employer. I am also looking forward to closing this file as it has been going on for way too long. The initial date of completion given by maestro kitchen was cancelled by the installer (he called me directly, when I was already home waiting for him. He had a family emergency with his wife that was sick which I understood.) There after, it was in fact hard to find dates and time that worked for both them and I. I understand they are busy, but I also have a full time job as a ***. There was no way I was going to leave a key for them again or not be home for the last visit because I wanted to be present (given the damage done to my floors).
I have also just received an email stating that I will have to pay 2% monthly on overdue account. Since this matter isn't resolved I do not accept these condition that were never part of the initial contract.
Mastro kitchen says I still owe 2682.90. I would agree to give him a cheque of $1482.90 to cover for the damage caused to my floor and finally close this file.
