Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2015/09/29) */
The [redacted] Group asked the client at the property [redacted] to provide proof of the date the stove vent was installed due to the length of time passed [redacted] the inspection was performed. The client responded with us looking at...
Zillow. Zillow only shows the stove, not the attic. We feel this is a reasonable request. We have not received any documentation showing when the vent was installed. We then requested for our senior inspector and a licensed roofer to go to the home to evaluate the issue of the improperly installed vent. This was offered by email dated 8/13/2015. We never received a response. The client is requesting $900 for inspections done by others. We will offer the refund of the clients fee paid for the home inspection performed by the [redacted] Group in the amount of $335.00. If this is acceptable the client may respond by email. We will then send a release to be signed then release funds in the amount of $335.00
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2015/09/29) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I purchased the house with the stove vent intact as shown on the Zillow website. It is the inspectors job to "Inspect" the property, including the attic. It is not "reasonable" to assume that I should climb in the attic as this is what I paid [redacted] to do as required to close escrow. Once discovered I had pictures available upon request) taken to show the blatant damage and lack of discovery. Even the selling agent can also confirm that this vent was installed prior to my ownership. What more proof is there. Why should I need to prove the inspectors lack of competence as it's evidenced in the sloppy report.
The only response I received was an e-mail dated July 14th stating once I could PROVE the oven was installed prior to my purchase that a contractor would be sent. The pictures on Zillow show it as installed.(I have the e-mail if you need to review it.) There has been no further response.
I have offered numerous times to have their contractor look at the damage to include the letter I sent to the owner by FedEx on August 12th. Again with no response.
There was NO August 13th e-mail as stated above and no offer to send a Senior Inspector and a licensed roofer.
At this time the ceiling has now begun cracking from the lack of support causing yet more damage.
I am requesting the $900 for reimbursement of the inspection fee and allowance to hire a competent inspection company to see what else was missed by this firm.
