I am also a registered professional engineer in the state of TexasI agree with Mr [redacted] 's commentsLike he states as long as the driveway is sloped away from the houseThat is the problem and always been the problemThe picture I sent clearly shows that the driveway is not properly sloped away from the garage and that is why water is collecting at that location and freezing beneath the slab and lifting the slab and will continue to do that every winterNo where else did the concrete heave and in all cases the concrete was installed over the top of soilPlus the heaving reached at the coldest part of the winter was inches as that picture with the tape measure shows I sent the Revdex.com.Mr [redacted] was not shown the pictures of the preparation before concrete was installed and therefore does not know the driveway is not properly sloped away from the garageIf you look at those pictures and notice the distance from the bottom of the wood forms to the soil against the garage floor and compare that to the distance at the bottom of the wood form to midway down the drivewayYou will notice the soil is flush with the bottom of the wood forms at the midway point in the driveway but is clearly below the wood forms up at the garageIf the driveway was properly sloped the distance between the bottom of the wood forms and soil should be consistent or relatively close.I also discussed this with Mr [redacted] 's fellow engineering friend [redacted] over the phone when I was considering taking MrMatt Davis to court and was going to use [redacted] as a witnessIn addition those pictures were reviewed with my attorney [redacted] agreed with me if the driveway was not sloped properly away from the garage that could cause the lifting which agrees with Mr [redacted] 's commentsI have since decided not to take MrMatt Davis to court even though six on my side and my attorney suggested taking him to small claims court.Regarding French drains those are typically installed in an area that tends to collect moisture after a heavy rain and take a long time to dryMy side yard does not stay wet after a heavy rain so I fail to see the benefits of a French drain in my caseI have installed them before when I was a plant engineer in areas where water would collectIn that case we dug a deep pit filled it with stones and then put a layer of gravel over the area and the water collection issue was resolved.I already have a price from [redacted] to fix this issue properly and plan to do so in May after some work in my house is completedIn hindsight I wish I would have went with [redacted] but they were slightly higherI am a retired engineer from [redacted] (plus years) and I am now a part time consulting engineer with a local engineering firmMy attorney and six on your side tried to get MrMatt Davis to cover half the cost for me to have [redacted] fix this problemTotal quote was around $to remove the top slab of the driveway, install inches of gravel, slope driveway away from garage and then install wire mesh and concreteMrDavis would not even consider covering any part of the costs. In all my years working with contractors, contractors would always try to work with the clients within reason to come to a resolution so the client was happyMrMatt Davis is the first contractor where that has not been the caseI do not understand that at allA happy client assures repeat business as well as being recommended by the client to others that are considering similar work.If the Revdex.com looks at all their archives you will notice I have never entered a Revdex.com complaint against any contractor but MrDavis attitude towards me changed all of that[redacted]

I want the Revdex.com to close the case and post on their web site that this contractor has a negative review. I used the Revdex.com as a guideline to determine whether a contractor is qualified. At this point I am not convinced that a Revdex.com rating means anything. If I see that it shows a negative review and posts that review then my faith in the Revdex.com will remain as it was previous to hiring Matt Davis. I have already told my neighbors that I am no longer convinced that a Revdex.com rating means anything. By posting this contractor has a negative review my faith in the Revdex.com will remain strong and I will let my neighbors know you can trust the Revdex.com ratings.I am already moving on with Matt Davis and have contracted with [redacted] to fix the driveway. I have learned big time from this experience about what can go wrong with using the low bidder who does not provide warranties and guarantees with his work. I will inform my neighbors and friends on how bad my experience with Matt Davis turned out so they can decide for themselves whether to use Matt Davis. Hopefully, your rating will help others in the future so they do not need to go through what I went through with Matt Davis. I am still shocked that he would not even consider covering part of the cost for the repair to show a good faith effort to help the customer with the added cost to repair the driveway. First time in my life that a business did not try and make the customer happy.Thanks..[redacted]

I am also a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas. I agree with Mr. [redacted]'s comments. Like he states as long as the driveway is sloped away from the house. That is the problem and always been the problem. The picture I sent clearly shows that the driveway is not properly sloped away from the garage and that is why water is collecting at that location and freezing beneath the slab and lifting the slab and will continue to do that every winter. No where else did the concrete heave and in all cases the concrete was installed over the top of soil. Plus the heaving reached at the coldest part of the winter was 1.5 inches as that picture with the tape measure shows I sent the Revdex.com.Mr. [redacted] was not shown the pictures of the preparation before concrete was installed and therefore does not know the driveway is not properly sloped away from the garage. If you look at those pictures and notice the distance from the bottom of the wood forms to the soil against the garage floor and compare that to the distance at the bottom of the wood form to midway down the driveway. You will notice the soil is flush with the bottom of the wood forms at the midway point in the driveway but is clearly below the wood forms up at the garage. If the driveway was properly sloped the distance between the bottom of the wood forms and soil should be consistent or relatively close.I also discussed this with Mr. [redacted]'s fellow engineering friend [redacted] over the phone when I was considering taking Mr. Matt Davis to court and was going to use [redacted] as a witness. In addition those pictures were reviewed with my attorney. [redacted] agreed with me if the driveway was not sloped properly away from the garage that could cause the lifting which agrees with Mr. [redacted]'s comments. I have since decided not to take Mr. Matt Davis to court even though six on my side and my attorney suggested taking him to small claims court.Regarding French drains those are typically installed in an area that tends to collect moisture after a heavy rain and take a long time to dry. My side yard does not stay wet after a heavy rain so I fail to see the benefits of a French drain in my case. I have installed them before when I was a plant engineer in areas where water would collect. In that case we dug a deep pit filled it with stones and then put a layer of gravel over the area and the water collection issue was resolved.I already have a price from [redacted] to fix this issue properly and plan to do so in May after some work in my house is completed. In hindsight I wish I would have went with [redacted] but they were slightly higher. I am a retired engineer from [redacted] (33 plus years) and I am now a part time consulting engineer with a local engineering firm. My attorney and six on your side tried to get Mr. Matt Davis to cover half the cost for me to have [redacted] fix this problem. Total quote was around $1400 to remove the top slab of the driveway, install 4 inches of gravel, slope driveway away from garage and then install wire mesh and concrete. Mr. Davis would not even consider covering any part of the costs. In all my years working with contractors, contractors would always try to work with the clients within reason to come to a resolution so the client was happy. Mr. Matt Davis is the first contractor where that has not been the case. I do not understand that at all. A happy client assures repeat business as well as being recommended by the client to others that are considering similar work.If the Revdex.com looks at all their archives you will notice I have never entered a Revdex.com complaint against any contractor but Mr. Davis attitude towards me changed all of that.[redacted]
