The July yoga teacher training was from July - 25, 0px;"> [redacted] participated in the training from July - For approximately weeks she participated daily in our training and lived in our lodging The total length of the course is days She paid $ Our refund policy is stated clearly on our website - [redacted] There is no refund after a certain time has passed Regardless of the policy we have always been open to negotiating reimbursements For the weeks [redacted] was there she never offered a complaint [redacted] sent us an email titled "Formal Request for Refund" which did not mention a refund at all but was a rant of how much she didn't like us or agree with our school The friend, ***, she speaks of was not in any kind of refresher discounted course [redacted] was a previous graduate from our program who had a great relationship with us She asked to return as an assistant to the training This is a common offering from schools to further the education of a graduate, in ***'s case, she had become a yoga teacher We discussed at the beginning what her duties would entail - she was to assist the lead trainer which meant a lot of observation of those training and giving assists and adjusts as needed It also includes the opportunity to participate in many of the classes and course offerings We also told her that she would have to help with basic organization and cleaning which did not really a lot to much as staff are always involved in those things at such a busy studio This is a more exalted leadership role with more responsibility giving the assistant more experience to become a senior teacher The total cost of training with lodging is $ For [redacted] we settled on $which included her lodging and a new, updated teacher trainee manual [redacted] agreed and stated that she was there to help us out anyway she could To clarify: ***'s agreement was as a teaching assistant, not a reduced refresher course We also asked her to sub a total of classes as part of her deal since she was already a teacher back home At a school asking a top student to teach as practice is also quite common and is a great opportunity for growth We continued to notice that [redacted] was participating in the training and not playing the role of assistant After refusing to come in and help a couple hours on the morning of the trainees day off after weeks had passed, Nadia, the studio owner asked her to pay an additional $- since she was not complying with the arrangement and participating in the training like everyone else We discussed that maybe we needed better, more clear communication between both parties The next day both [redacted] & [redacted] announced that they were both leaving the program and the island much to the shock of their fellow trained and teachers On the morning of July 18th [redacted] came to our school after no communication with us to pick up her belongings She exclaimed she did not agree with our schoolShe then admitted that she and some of the others in our lodging had invited a homeless man to their house which later had to be removed by the police It was then that she argued about not having a key The house is in the very safe, upscale *** [redacted] neighborhood Over the years guests have stayed without a key as the house has been secure [redacted] nor the others never requested a key and we would have given her one if she asked Regarding the statement about pills and mental illness We try to take special care not to have personal opinions in class When the topic of metal illness was brought up, [redacted] emphasized the beneficial practice of yoga for the mental states as "taking pills can be toxic to the body." I paid to be an assistant for a 200hr teacher training at the Maui Yoga ShalaOnce I arrived they made me work for no compensationThe owner of the Shala, Naudia T*** would send her paid employees home early so I could do their work at no cost to herShe would also have me teach yoga classesAs a certified yoga instructor I expect to paid for the time and work I put into teaching classesOn top of this she would verbally assault me and have other employees send me malicious text messagesI had to leave the training early because of this I paid a discounted rate, but to my understanding I was paying this rate because I already obtained my certification from themI was just going to take the classes as a refresher course and learn new assisting skillsHowever, I was repeatedly taken out of classes to work the front desk, clean, and teach classesNaudia never put anything into writing saying I was expected to work When I approached her about the amount of work that was exp

I found out that one of my fellow trainees has been working for free and denied having a single day offShe is leaving Maui early and so am IShe paid a discounted rate because she already received a teaching certificate from the Shala about years ago and believed she was going to assist the teachers this time so that she could gain a refresher course in the teaching methods and techniquesThe owner, Nadia T*** and Shakta (real name unknown) both told my classmate that she owes them free work to compensate them for the discounted rateShe was pulled out of yoga classes and the teacher training courses in order to substitute other, paid teachers and employees in their roles at both the Pa’ia and Wailea yoga studiosNadia accused my friend of being lazy, lacking work ethic, and owing her an additional $2,The ethics of this school prompted me to leave early, as well, and demand a refund
