Mr. [redacted] was contacted and is bring the vehicle in for repairs, to be covered as a goodwill gesture by Mercedes-Benz of North Haven. Mr. [redacted] communicated with our pre-owned manager that this was an agreeable solution.

Review: I purchased a 2004 Mercedes Benz SL500 from Mercedes Benz of North Haven on April 18, 2013. During the purchase negotiations, I shared that even though the mileage was low (35,856) I was concerned about it not being a "certified" pre-owned car. They explained that the rules for "certified" pre-owned did not extend to a car of that age and assured me they had done a thorough inspection of the car. I subsequently purchased a "High Tech Coverage" extended warranty to include coverage of the retractable roof and other miscellaneous electronics because the car has a lot of high tech gadgets.

I picked up the car on April 18 and drove home. When my fiance' returned home from work we took the new car back to North Haven to pick up my other car. On the way the "Tire Pressure Monitor" (TPM) came on to indicate that there was a problem with the tire pressure in one or more of the tires. When I went in search of the salesman who sold me the car I was informed that he was busy and I talked with another salesman who gave me a very confusing discussion.

North Haven is about 45 minutes from home and the TPM is mostly a nuisance, so I did not return to the dealer for a while. Since I purchased the car as a fair weather car, I do not drive it every day, but I continued to have the issue with the TPM and I noticed that I needed to put air in one of the tires about every other week. On June 6 I took the car to Town Fair Tire in Newington because it is near where I work. I assumed the "leaking" tire might have a nail or something. Before they even put the car on the lift the manager at the Town Fair Tire warned me that the Mercedes Benz and BMW allow wheels often develop cracks in the rim. Once they had the tire off they located the leak and it was, indeed in the rim. They put the spare on my car for me and loaded my "flat" into the trunk and I immediately went to the dealer in North Haven.

They confirmed the crack in the rim and said I must have hit a pothole to which I responded with a euphemism for cow manure. I explained to the service advisor that I had NOT hit a pot hole and that the TPM had been alarming since the day I picked up the car. He said there was nothing he could do and that I should contact sales. Sales continued to give me a run around. I obtained a loaner car and was told that I had to bring the car back with a full tank of gas. When I started it up the car had just less than 3/4 of a tank and I had to return to the desk to have someone come out and verify that before I left.

June 6 was a Thursday and I was told the wheel had to be sent out for repair and that it would be ready the next day (June 7). I called several times during the day, after noon, on Friday and was assured that as soon as they got it back from the sub-contractor who was fixing it, the car would be quickly ready. Around 4 they finally admitted that they had messed up a "wheel sensor" that they did not have in stock and they would have to keep my car over the weekend. I picked up my car on June 10 (Tuesday) and they charged me for fixing the wheel that I feel was leaking when I purchased the car. On my drive home the TPM went into alarm again. Upon arriving at home I immediately called (at 4:28) only to get the answering machine that said they were closed at 4:30. I left a message and initiated my complaint with the Revdex.com online.

The next morning I received a courtesy phone call from the service department to see how my experience went and I explained what had happened and why I was not very happy with Mercedes Benz of North Haven. The caller was very apologetic and encouraged me to bring the car back so they could resolve the TPM issue. I explained to them that if I dropped it off Monday I would not be able to return the loaner and pick my car back up until Thursday and they said it was the least they could do. I dropped the car off Monday and received a call Tuesday with some baloney that the tire sensors are battery operated and that they had all failed and needed to be replaced at a quote of $1170. I explained that I have a "High Tech" extended warranty but had to give the Service Advisor the number to call (even though I purchased the warranty from them). He called back to say that this repair wasn't covered under the warranty. It's a "High Tech" warranty and this is a "High Tech" repair. I don't understand why this ISN'T covered. When I again explained to the Service Advisor that the alarm had been in since I purchased the car he said he would run right up and tell my salesman and have him give me a call. I received no call from the salesman on Tuesday. The Service Advisor called Wednesday morning and I explained that I had not received a call from the salesman at which time he apologized and said he would give him the message again. The Service Advisor called that afternoon and said that he had "bypassed" the salesman and the sales manager and service manager had talked and they were willing to go 50/50 with me on the repairs. By this time I have no faith in Mercedes Benz of North Haven to do the repair right. I told him so and said I would be by to pick up my car the next day, which I did. Frankly, I was surprised they didn't charge me a "diagnostic charge".

I don't feel I should have to pay to have something repaired that was not operating properly at the time I purchased the car. I wonder what other things were missed in their "thorough inspection" of the car. I also believe that Mercedes Benz of North Haven should refund me the money that I spend having the wheel repaired.

Thank you for your time, even if only to listen to my complaint.
