Maxi's General Auto Repair Reviews (4)

Review: on August 1st 2014, I was driving down Honeyspot road and car started over heating. Decided to pull over at first garage I saw afraid to damage car if I continued to drive. Pulled into maxi's auto body and asked if he can take a look at car to see what was wrong... he went under my hod with a younger spanish guy and immediately determined that I needed a new water pump, timing belt, thermostat and some hoses.. I had also previously purchased a maf sensor and asked since he was going to take engine apart can he replace that sensor for me. He said that was fine and said I would need to give him $500 for parts and labor. He than let me use his car to go to the bank and get the money to pay him in full before the job could be started. I brought his car back, gave him his money, got a ride home and waited for the repair to be completed.

Maxi called me that night and said my car was ready, called a ride and went to pick up my car. Maxi proceeded to tell me that I should keep an eye on the temperature drive it for a few days and bring it back to him so he can check on the job he did. He never replaced the maf sensor, but did tell me that when he had time to bring him the car back and he would replace it free of charge. He did not produce a receipt. Said he would give me one when I brought the car back. I drove the car for about 2 weeks and noticed that my car was over heating again... immediately called Maxi when I pulled over to a gas station and told him I was having the same issue. He told me to get the car towed to him. I did not have money to get my car towed from [redacted] to [redacted] and told him that so he said he would send someone to come check on car. In the meantime... I went into cumberland farms to buy antifreeze and get someone to help me put it in.. the employee came out to help and noticed that the hose connected to the radiator was not put on correctly and it was hanging off thus causing my car to overheat like crazy. called maxi back told him what was going on and he said there was too much pressure.. whatever that means.. he never came to check on car.. I waited till the car cooled off and drove it home and parked it... that was on 08/11/14.

left my car parked in the driveway for 2 weeks before he finally came to pick it up. Called him gave him my adress and he kept saying he was coming and never came. Finally on 08/30/2014 he shows up at my house to pickup car. He tries to pour antifreeze in as soon as he turns on car it starts over heating and antifreeze leaking bad from under car. new diagnosis is I need a radiator, head gasket and motor mount. he says job will cost under $1000. I gave him $400 in cash that saturday and he drove the car off. on monday he came backand picked up $240 and my 1993 mercury grand marquis.. There was nothing majorly wrong with that car but it had been sitting for so long he said he would junk it for $250 credit.

He said he would begin working on the car. few days I would have my car back. Few weeks has gone by. today 09/22/2014 he texts me at 934am tom tell me car is ready.

I go to pick up my car and ask for a receipt for work that was done. he gives me a receipt with no discription of parts that were placed and when I asked him to be more discriptive on the receipt he then tells me that my money was short so he did not make all necessary repairs. he never called me to tell me he needed more money. never told me he was not going to be able to finish the job. he also stated that I needed to drive the car around for my few days and bring it back so that he can put on a part.. I think thermostat or water pump that he left off the car.

after I got my keys I immediately drove my car a block away to another car shop to have them check my car to see if those parts were fixed. new auto spot says I still have ALL original parts on my car and fan does not work so car will continue to over heat. I paid that man in cash and in full to work on my car and get the job done. I have been missing days of work.. catching cabs.. lied to because this man decides he wants to rip me off. He never fixed my car and it is still over heating so I would like my money back plus the car I gave him so that I can be able to pay for the repair of my vehicle. One full month and a half later im still at square 1... no car.. no repair.. and 1300$ broker.. he refuses to be anything but a crook... he did not repair my car at all... I also asked him for the old parts that he took off my car and he told me I have to take him to court. PLEASE HELP!!!!!Desired Settlement: I would like my money back and to never do business with him again!!!

Review: I hire this person to fix my 1998 chev malibu..he told me it was the transmission because the car was not drivable. Other than that the inside of the car was good and outside. . Me and a male friend went back a few days after the car was fixed a test drive the car.when we got there to test drive the car we drove the car to a gas station that wasn't far from there; at least five minutes in the car stopped at the gas station to the point that we have to ask people for a jump.. the car just didn't sound good...so we made a verbal agreement is he was going to charge me a thousand dollars to fix the car he can just give me $500 for the car and he keep it and sell it... he said he would call me and keep me up to date..this was ending of last year. . I kept calling and calling ...then he would say ok I'll give me the money and when I call he gives me a ru around. ... come to find out he juck my car...and said that he called me to come get the car.. this man has never called my phone are ask me to junk my car with my permission...he can show no proof of doing so and still haven't given me any money. . with this means that I am taking him to court for small claims. .. there is more to this storyDesired Settlement: I would like at least the blue book value for this car which is $1500

Review: I have been trying to get my money back for over a year now from "maxi"I took my car to him that I just bought and was in perfect running condition. I also put in a muffler the day before dropping it off at his shop. I took it to his shop to fix a few minor problems. I gave him $550 to do the job upfront! After about 2 weeks he tells me he wet the engine can't get it started anymore and blew my brand new muffler! When I demanded my money back he told me no just give him more time to fix it! My mother and I have both been to the shop about every other day for about a year and he refuses to give me back my money for the work and the money for my car that I paid $700 and the muffler I just put in for $400 I had to junk the car because it was now trashed. During this process of "trying" to fix the car he told me he had a great car that he knows about that I could buy. Because he was taking too long with my car I Agreed to the proposal because I needed to get back to work. I gave him $1500 for the car. After giving him the money for the car he told us it would need minor fixes? Realizing that he is clearly not a good mechanic to do any fixes we told him the next day that we no longer wanted the car and wanted our money back for that as well. He told us he bought the car and cant return my money. I have never seen the car, so I am almost positive in the short 18hrs that I gave him the money he spent it. Still to this day we have not received any money.

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

I feel that he should be responsible for giving me back a refund and the money for the car and the muffler that I just purchased days before bringing it to his shop. $3150And/or Pay me my 550+1500 and give me a working car of $1100 value

Review: I made a verbal agreement with Mr. [redacted] because I thought that I could trust him based on the relationship that my mother had with his wife . He agreed to sell me a 2000 [redacted] for $2400 and that we can give him $1200 for the car upfront and then the balance of $1200 by the end of August and that the car would be ready August 22nd for me to take back to school. On August 22nd my mother went to pick up the title and saw the car and felt that it was not in good shape and asked Mr. [redacted] if the car would be ready by August 23rd and he said yes. I purchased car insurance, paid the taxes, and had the car registered the morning of August 23rd. Later that afternoon Mr. [redacted] called my mother and said that the car would not be ready for me to take back to school that he needed a few more days to test the new motor he put in it. She called Mr. [redacted] on Monday, August 26th, the car was still not ready and he told her something was wrong with the axle. After repeatedly calling Mr. [redacted] up through September 6th, my mother asked for my deposit back because obviously this was a bad deal and car not ready as he originally promised. He told her he would return the car if we give him back the original title. Upon registering the car which we did on August 23rd, the title was kept by motor vehicle and sent to Wethersfield, CT. I finally received the title October 8th, 2013 from Wethersfield and my mother went to his shop to get my deposit back, he said he does not have it and he would call her when he gets the money he has not called her to date. I have no car and out of $1200Desired Settlement: The $1200 I gave Mr. [redacted] was money that I earned from my summer job and I really needed a car to go back to school with to get around and I do not have a car and out of $1200. I want him to return my money back to me and stop taking advantage of people.
