Review: [redacted] at Getty Dee-Jay Repair Center, Inc. and my transmission problem:

About 2weeks ago my car was neither accelerating above 20 mi / hour nor reversing. I took it to [redacted] the [redacted] of the Getty mechanic shop. He said he would repair it and that he would put a rebuilt transmission in my '05 SUV. Prior to the day of the first pick up, [redacted] showed me my transmission on the floor of the shop. The total of the repair was $1800. I paid $800 as a down payment and $1000 the day he said it was fixed. I then picked up the car late in the evening after the repair shop closed (about 4-5 days after dropping it off). At that time I realized that the reverse was not working. It took several attempts to get my car out of the on street parking spot in order to get the vehicle home. The car did accelerate over 20 miles an hour.

Upon trying to leave home to work the next morning I realized that I couldn't reverse from the driveway. After several attempts I called [redacted] and told him. In summary he said call him back. After finally getting the car into reverse I noticed transmission fluid all over the driveway (about 1' by 2' spill). Once I reached the shop [redacted] said he would repair it. I told him I would like my money back and to reinstall my transmission so I can go elsewhere. He said leave it so he can fix it. I did.

After calling the shop and hearing, "[redacted] is not here call back in 20 min" multiple times when calling for an update, and dealing with an employee for [redacted] who was rude, disrespectful and ultimately not professional, I went to the shop to be shown my car on a car lift and told that another mechanic outside of the shop was working on it. [redacted] further said that mechanic did his all and can't find the problem. While speaking to [redacted] a phone call came on his cell which [redacted] said was the person fixing the car. [redacted] shared after the call ended that a part needed to be bought and that, installing it should take care of the problem. I again told [redacted], I'll give you till this evening as you now have had the vehicle for 2nd weeks, so if it’s not fixed I am again asking for my money back and for my transmission to be reinstalled. [redacted] said, "Ok, yes." I received no call that evening nor the next day. Upon going back to the shop (in the morning), due to not being able to reach him by phone I then went to the shop to get an update and was told [redacted] was not there. The worker shared [redacted] went somewhere to retrieve my car. Late that evening I got a call from [redacted] that my car was ready and fixed. I reiterated, "You agreed to return my full refund and put back in my transmission." He replied, "My friend come pick up your car its fixed."

I went to the shop, and test drove SUV. I returned from the test drive to share one (1)of the many attempts to put the car in reverse evidenced a delay in the engagement of reverse and that it only went to reverse after shifting to drive then back to reverse again. I shared the problem was still not fixed. [redacted] said, "It might just be in your mind due to the past issues." I said, "I will take it home but if the problem still occurs I will need to have my transmission reinstalled and get my full refund. [redacted] ignored that and said, "Any problems just bring it back" I said, "That is the problem. It took 2 weeks to do a repair that should take 2-days. In the mean time you are not paying for substitute transportation and in order for my wife and I to get to work, I have been using her car and she has been using her mother's car. I can’t afford to keep inconveniencing my mother in-law and to give you any more attempts to fix something it seems you and your partner outside this shop (to whom the car was given) can’t fix. I summarized by saying if the problem you said, I just evidenced once, returns please just give me my money back and reinstall my transmission as you agreed to twice before when requested. I left with my SUV.

Since I picked up the SUV on Sunday while driving it I again had two (2) separate instances where the transmission again didn't engage in reverse. The accelerator was pressed (as it was before in past attempts) and the tachometer revved high but the car did not move. After the following attempts the transmission engaged in reverse. I returned the car today Monday morning and told [redacted]. After [redacted] tested it in front of me the problem was not replicated. After [redacted] drove it he found no problem and offered to test drive it with me. Without leaving the lot of the mechanic shop I was able to replicate the problem twice with [redacted] next to me in the passenger seat. I reminded him of my request and again requested my money back; to which he refused and told me I would have to pay for what work was done. In questioning why would I pay for work that was not complete after multiple requests were made to have my money returned and my original transmission re-installed, even after you agreed? Your refusal to comply is what brought us to this point. He said, "I dumped your transmission, I don’t keep parts around. Let me work on it" I said, "I am off work this week grant my request so I can use the week off to go elsewhere. I worked with you long enough and can’t afford to waste any more time, yours, mine or my family's time to have you fix something both you and your outside partner have no clue how to fix.

Please HELP ME!

[redacted]Desired Settlement: The re-install of my transmission (brought to the mechanic shop initially) and a full refund of $1800.
