Attempt to collect on a debt that is the product of proven identity theft
I am extremely taken aback that a company could make an attempt to collect money from me when I have not ever done business with them. They are unable or unwilling to show me any contractual agreements between me and themselves or any other paperwork tying myself to their company. I am fully aware that this is a collection agency, but I have notified this company that they are attempting to collect on a debt that is a result of fraud and identity theft. I was the victim of identity theft a few years back and have worked over the last 24 months to clear my good name and repair my credit standing. This type of crime is one of the most heinous, because there is simply no way other that documentation to plead your case that you are not/were not the individual doing business with these creditors. I've sent this company multiple forms of validation supporting my claims of fraud/identity theft and making them aware of the situation at hand; and I am currently at work with the original creditor to remedy this situation. I would appreciate any assistance from your office on this matter as it seems my communications are falling on deaf ears.
Correct any information they have disseminated through the multiple credit reporting agencies and other consumer reporting agencies.

Allegation: The Consumer alleges that she has never done business with MRLP or Navy Federal. She states that MRLP was unwilling to provide paperwork about any contract between the Consumer and Navy Federal. She alleges she was the victim of identity theft and any debt owed is the result of that fraud. Ms. states that she is currently working with Navy Federal to remedy this situation.
MRLP Response: MRLP was sent this referral for legal action by our client, Navy Federal. The consumer inquired of our firm on Oct. 25, 2019 about her credit card account. We notified Navy Federal of the dispute and sent the consumer a package of information on the debt which included the original application and copies of several monthly statements. I have enclosed a copy of the debt information sent to the consumer. At that time and up until we received this CFPB Complaint, we were not aware of any possible credit card fraud now alleged by the consumer. Our firm's actions in this matter were appropriate and consistent with the law.
We were advised by Navy Federal that the consumer has filed three disputes with the Credit Bureau Reporting on 6/4/2019, 12/26/2019 and 1/27/2020 and in each instance the report was reviewed and denied.
