We had our roof replaced by McCarthy's Roofing of Dartmouth, NS in October 2015. We have a house with two separate rooftops. The roof closest to the driveway was completed first. The bin was placed in the driveway and all debris was deposited in it. The second roof required that the half filled bin be towed across the front lawn (which is quite a stretch) and deposited in front of the flower beds. It rained on and off for a few days. The second roof was completed and the debris was deposited in the bin. This resulted in the bin being full passed the brim and required netting to keep everything in place. The rain continued. The day came when the bin was to be picked up. As I drove into the driveway, I noticed the bin and a large half tonne truck in the yard with a tow truck on the street. The yard was a mess of with ruts, mud and torn up grass. Due to the rain and the overfilled bin being in place for so long, the truck got stuck trying to pull it out. A tow truck was called in to winch both the truck and the bin off the property. This caused rutting from the house to the street. At no point in time was there any attempt to contact or inform of this series of events. Upon talking to the foreman, we were told that the issue would most likely right itself with winter and spring. We were also told that if there were still issues come spring to call and the company would repair at no cost to us. A couple of weeks after the roofing job was complete, the ceiling in the master bedroom started leaking profusely and the wall on the main level showed signs of moisture with water pooling in the basement below it. When I got in touch with McCarthy's Roofing about these two separate issues, I was told that it would be a couple of days before they could come take a look. In the meantime, water continued to pour into our home. When they did come, excuses were made that the areas in question on the roof were hard areas to seal and that their job was to re shingle. Still not sure what that truly meant. The master issue was resolved except for the interior damage. The main floor wall/basement issue was band aided and I was told that it wasn't their issue, it was an issue with the house. Since then the basement and wall continue to have issues. Spring came as did the issue with the lawn. Of course the damage did not rectify on its own. Contact was made with McCarthy's Roofing. We were told they would take care of it. We were not home on the day the repair was made. When we arrived home we noticed that what was repaired was the grass by the driveway not the middle of the lawn. Communication was sent about the problem at this point voicing more angst. We were told that they would send people out to take care of it. Again, we were not home when this took place. When we arrived home I was aghast at what I saw. The lawn was horrendous. Dead sod was placed on top of the ruts of growing grass. The "top soil" used was done so sparingly that it was not noticeable. As a matter of fact, it looked more like planting soil used for house plants than top soil. This brings me closer to why I decided to write about this today. A call was placed to the company and a message was left at the displeasure of the whole situation. A return call was received and we were told to get a quote from a landscaping company for the repairs. Once a quote was received we were to let McCarthy's Roofing know and they would let us know how to proceed. It took us from early June until early August to find a company willing and able to communicate and give us this quote. We were lucky to have found a reputable company in our community [redacted] willing to quote us and willing to do the work. Today they came in and started the job only to recognize that the damage was more extensive than originally thought. I asked the owner to measure again and send me an email of the extra cost so I could send it off and also give McCarthy's a call. I contacted the owner, George, to be completely dismissed and offended verbally. He showed complete lack of respect for me as a fully paid customer and [redacted]

I caution all to be vigilant when choosing a company to do work for you that you are required to pay with your hard earned money. Surely there are better people to give business to out there than this guy. I truly feel bad for his employees that his reputation is tarnishing or will tarnish.

I recently received four quotes to have my Roof Shingled. McCarthy's Roofing came in the cheapest. They have just completed the project and I am extremely pleased with the job. The crew were very professional and completed the project on time. The cleanup was excellent and all small requests were completed.
I would highly recommend this Roofing Company
