McCollister's Transportation Reviews (7)

This review would have been 5 Stars, but for the fact that someone on their crew stole from me and my family. A tub that I filled and packed the morning of our move was untouched by anyone but the crew until the next day, when I opened it and ~$500 worth of personal items were missing. Only the expensive items, nothing cheap.
Use at your own risk!

1) The original quote request was for an inside pick up and delivery of bio-medical cabinets. It was not requested by the customer that the cabinets be installed. These type of cabinets require additional manpower and speciality moving equipment for the installation.
2) Concessions...

were made to our normal pricing to perform the installation as needed so the project could be completed.
3) The cabinets were not placed in their final location because of building door opening issues. Maintenance personnel were not on-site to remove the doors. Crew was instructed to leave the cabinets in the hallway until arrangements were made.
4) The Microtome could not be located during the original pick up. It has since been located and is being stored pending final resolution of this matter.
5) None of the original work has been paid for and customer is declining to pay its bill for services rendered.

I am rejecting this response because:
The response of this business is absolutely not true. All problems are initiated from their side and they did not do their job. They were scheduled to deliver the items on Dec 20 but they came in Dec 26. The door was not the issue, the main issue raised from the delayed delivery. Moreover, they were called numerous times after to come and complete their job, but they did not show up.  They were responsible to bring the biosafety cabinet to the lab in the fifth floor and install it on its base because they removed it from its base at the origin. They left the cabinet in the hallway in the first floor and never came back to take it to the final place. One expensive item was never delivered (The microtome). We need to use it on a daily basis and they were called neumerous times to bring that item but they never did. We have not been able to use the biosafety cabinet and the microtome for over a months. They have to finish thei job before they can claim any payments but they have not done the job. In fact they have cause more damages to us than the original quoted price. The cabinet is still in the hallway and the microtome is not yet delivered. All problems caused from their side and had nothing to do with us.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:  Mr. [redacted] did tell me in the event of the equipment being lost or damaged due to their negligence they would be liable for that.  He said the .60 per lb would cover damage from something like a fire, flood, or act of God.  He clarified this by saying those occurrences would generally be covered under the company who stores the equipment and their own insurance, the .60 would help offset deductibles.  We agreed it would not be likely a storage client's insurance would not cover damage or loss from the warehouse's negligence and as such, they would be responsible in that case.
The back of the bill of lading for McCollisters does not say they are not liable if they lose an asset they have in storage as well.  It is clear someone in their organization removed the device and sidestepped their "safeguards" (bar coded assets, serial number matching).  Thus, someone at McCollisters stole the equipment they stored.  We do not even know it ever made it to their warehouse, yet we paid them for 34 months of storage in advance.  They charged for storage they never provided and due to their gross negligence in effectively monitoring and safeguarding their warehouse, allowed an employee to steal the items.
They have nothing where it was signed off or agreed to by Offsite that if there is a loss due to their gross negligence their only obligation is .60 per lb.

Review: My business contracted with McCollisters to pick up a [redacted] copier and its accessories from a company by the name of [redacted]. They agreed to pick up and store the copier for 34 months. In exchange, we paid McCollisters $675.00. This was done around May 2011. It was agreed that McCollisters would insure the equipment for .60 per lb in the event of damage from fire, flood, act of God. I asked [redacted] who worked at McCollisters what would happen if they damaged the equipment through their own negligence? He told me they would be financially responsible to repair or replace the equipment for negligence. So it made sense, if something happened to the building, the company storing the equipment should have their own commercial coverage apply. But if something happens as a result of McCollister's negligence, they would make the customer whole.

In January 2014 the storage term was up. We requested the equipment be pulled and sent back to [redacted]. McCollisters informed us they are unable to locate the equipment and to file a claim. [redacted] sent an invoice to replace the equipment in the amount of $12,400.00. McCollisters offered a settlement of $400.80. They retained all funds for storage, lost the equipment due to their gross negligence, and are now offering to settle based on .60 per lb.Desired Settlement: The desired outcome is to have McCollisters issue payment in full to [redacted] in the amount of $12,751.91 to pay off the residual position on the copier they lost as a result of their gross negligence.

Response:

I spoke to [redacted] and he provided me with a copy of the correspondence that was sent to [redacted]

The document clearly states that "the equipment would be covered at $0.60 per pound released value while in transit back to our warehouse."

In regards to storage rate charges "$0.60 per pound per copier released value while in storage.

no additional insurance was purchased as is shown on the customer order form

[redacted] did not state McCollister's would be financially responsible to repair or replace the equipment for negligence.

Review: McCollister was hired to transfer a few purchased lab equipment from [redacted] to our lab in [redacted], New Jersey. One of the items was a biosafety cabinet that needed to be removed from its base and put it back to its base in the lab. This matter was discussed at the beginning and was included in the original quote. They were scheduled to deliver on Dec 20th, 2013. They did not deliver on that day. After several complaints, they came on Dec 26, 2013 but did not do the job. First of all, they forgot one essential piece of equipment for our lab that we need to use on a daily basis. They promised to bring it but they did not despite several requests. Moreover, the left a main piece of equipment downstairs, in the hallway although I told them it is against the rules of the building. They promised to come back to take that item into the lab but they never did it. After several contact with them and complaining about the issue, they have not yet completed their job. I have contacted other movers and they are asking for four hours of payment, which is equal to the original quoted price. Moreover, I have paid $600 for using the piece of equipment that they did not deliver and have to continue to pay because McCollister did not deliver our own equipment on time. I contacted them numerous times but they have not completed their job. We have lost over $1000 to cover for the costs of their incomplete job.Desired Settlement: We need them to either immediately complete the job (within a few days) or cover the costs of hiring another contractor to complete their job. We also need them to pay for the costs of using the equipment in a different facility because we purchased this equipment and they were supposed to deliver it before Dec 20th but they have not delivered it and we still have to pay to another facility to use theirs.
