Easteling installed my roof over twelve years ago with what I was told was 30 year shingles. During installation his crew apparently damaged some flashing resulting in leaks the very next rain. He responded soon to my call arguing his crew did not damage the flashing. There had to be another cause. I explained to him I had no leaks before his work was done and if necessary I would get someone else to inspect it and send him the bill. He reluctantly pulled several square feet of shingles off and I assume sealed the old flashing with compound. He then replaced the removed shingles with a different color and even though I pointed it out, he said the slight difference was due to lot variation.
Today my roof looks like it is 30+ years old except for the several square feet Easterling replaced in the repair. Not only is there a major difference in color of those shingles, they look as if installed a year ago. I can only conclude he installed a cheap grade shingle initially and did the repair with the better shingle he originally quoted in his estimate. I have realized this for some time but was prone to just let it go but since I find myself getting estimates again for a new roof I determined I should, if nothing else, share the experience.
