McDonald's Chapel Reviews (1)

Review: Did not provide prepaid grave marker per request. One year after burial, still not completed.

I am writing about my husband [redacted] who served in the Korean war. [redacted] served both as a CPL in the United States Marine Corps and as an A2C in the United States Air Force. He later served over twenty years for the California State Parks System and he retired as the Chief Ranger for the Monterey Peninsula. Our family has experienced an huge loss last year, on October 29, 2012, when [redacted] passed away quite unexpectedly. It was a shock to us all, but especially to [redacted], his bride of fifty-five years.

To make matters worse [redacted] has not been able to come to any sort of closure because of the lack of honor and caring from those who were supposed to help her through this very difficult time. [redacted] and [redacted] both went in to McDonald's Chapel in October of 2011 and preplanned their funeral so that neither of them would need be burdened with those difficult decisions during a time of loss. [redacted] had even purchased insurance to pay off the contracts if one of them were to pass away before the contracts were paid in full.

The grave-marker was to be provided free of charge by the Veteran's Administration but the funeral home neglected to order it, even though it was part of the prearranged funeral plans. The only reason it was ever made was due to [redacted] calling the Veteran's Administration herself during the first week of May. Both Memorial Day and Veterans' Day have passed by without the proud display of an American Flag on his grave due to the fact that there was no marker there. Now that the grave-marker is in place it has yet to be mounted correctly, as per the funeral plans. [redacted] has been working with the funeral home for nearly a year now has received nothing but unanswered requests and a heart full of tears.

Not only has she had no resolve with the funeral home, but the finance company continues to call her at home and ask to speak to [redacted] as if he were still with us. They have even gone as far as to threaten to repossess the coffin, the vault that the coffin is in and the plot (which is paid for) that [redacted] was laid to rest in. We are still in a state of disbelief that they can not comprehend that [redacted] is currently in the coffin, in the vault, and in the plot.

I do not know what you might be able to do for [redacted], but any help would be greatly appreciated. [redacted]'s contact information is below. Desired Settlement: For grave marker to be completed properly, per my request.
