Review: Dear Sir:I would like to explain a situation I encountered with McGaughey Video and file a complaint against this establishment. McGaughey Video is a video service that transfers Super 8 and VHS tapes to digital DVDs. They are located at 1224 Third Avenue in Ford City, Pa. Their phone number is [redacted].On 11-12-12, I met with [redacted] McGaughey (the owner) and discussed transferring 2,850 feet of super 8 sound movies, (3) VHS tapes and (1) VHS-C tape to DVDs. I was getting these transferred as a Christmas gift for my two sons. These were movies of my sons growing up and the only sound movies I have of my deceased parents. These movies are very special to me.The (3) VHS tapes and the (1) VHS-C tapes were completed first. I paid $196.68 for three DVD copies and picked them up on 12-3-12. I viewed them and was happy with the transfer.On 12-20-12, I paid $568.52 for three DVD copies of the transferred Super 8 movies, took them home but didnt view them because Christmas was in a few days and I didnt have time to look at them.On Christmas day I gave my sons their presents. We all sat down to view them and to my disappointment viewed a product that was I felt was done very poorly. The DVDs were blurry, out of focus and skipping. On 1-3-13, I met with [redacted] at his store and expressed my disapproval with the quality of the transferred film. He said he guaranteed his work and asked me to bring in any four or five three minute movie reels and he would redo them to see if I approved of the redo. Its tough to make contact with the store because they are open on Monday thru Thursday from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM and closed Friday and Saturday and Sunday. I work steady day-turn and dont get home until 6:00 pm. I took in four reels and he redid them for me. I received these on 9-30-13. I took them home, viewed them and was happy with the outcome. I called [redacted] and told him I was pleased with how he had done the tapes. He said he would redo them at no charge because he guaranteed his work. I gave him my films on 10-23-13.This is where my main problem begins.I did not hear from [redacted] for about five months so I decided to call in early April. After numerous attempts to reach him and numerous voice messages for him to call me back (none of which were returned), I finally got hold of him and asked how my DVDs were coming. He said he had not started them.I gave him the benefit of doubt and said o.k. I called him a month later, early May, and same thing. Numerous calls to the store, numerous voice messages to return my calls and no return calls. I finally got hold of him and asked how my DVDs were coming and again he said he had not started them. He promised he would get them done.Again, on June 18, 2014, July 18, 2014 and August 18 2014 I called about the progress and still the films were not worked on.I finally had enough. Starting on August 18 thru August 21, ten months after giving [redacted] my films, I left him two messages a day asking for him to call me back. At this point in each message I was asking to get my original films back. No return calls. On Friday afternoon on August 22, I happened to catch [redacted] at the store. I went in and asked for my films. He apologized for not calling me back and said again he was getting ready to start the redo. I told him I wanted my films back. He gave them to me and I left.I am asking that he return the $568.62 and I will give him back his DVDs. Ive never had anything like this happen to me and this is my first complaint filed through the Revdex.com. Could you please respond and let me know what my options or next action should be. I presume it would be some kind of legal action filed through the local Magistrate.At this point I would be afraid to give him my films to redo for fear of retaliation to this complaint. I would give him back the films if I knew that they would be safe and guaranteed of their return.I have all receipts if needed to back up the above.
