McGhee & Associates Bookkeeping Reviews (1)

Review: I took my taxes in to Ms. Mcghee in March 2015 and on April 10th I called her because I had not heard anything, I was told I needed to come in to discuss some info. I went in on April 14th to go over tax info. she needed and was told she still could not finish my taxes for me to come back on the 15th. I left work on the 15th and sat down with Betty McGhee ( Owner ) and she proceeded to show me my tax info. I questioned a mistake she made and she proceeded to get verbally angry with me. I asked her should I go elsewhere she said no Ill just have to file a [redacted] extension and after she cussed me I asked her for my papers because I would like to go elsewhere. She proceeded to tell me I could wipe my [redacted] with my papers. I told her to let me know what I owed her for the work she had done and she continued to cuss at me at this time I asked her for my papers again and she threw then at me, when I bent down to pick them up she then threw a writing pen at me which hit me in my chin. I grabed the papers and proceeded to go out the door which she yelled get the [redacted] out of my office [redacted]! At this time I had not realized she had not given me all my papers so I ended up having to go back to her office which was something I did not want to do. Ms. McGhee refused to give me all my papers and at this time I was shaking and crying uncontrollably, one of her other clients ( she had a room full of people ) saw my papers that I was asking for and handed them to me. I proceeded to go to the door to leave and again Ms. McGhee yelled that 'I could wipe my [redacted] with them. I consider this verbal abuse and physical abuse on my person by her throwing objects at me. I would hate for her to ever treat anyone like she treated me.Desired Settlement: I had to file an extension and there will be a penalty involved.

Response:

Mrs. [redacted] dropped off her tax papers at the very end of March to be prepared. I told herthat there were several ahead of her and there was a good possibility that there might need to he anextension at that late time of dropping them. She said she understood. Her taxes were started on April9, 2015. I went as far as I could with them but needed her to come in an explain her series of numberswhich were supposed to be her medical expenses but none were actually identified and there were anumber of medical bills many of which did not indicate the amount, if any had been paid. At that Point Iknew I needed her impute to complete the return. I was not in when she called on April 10 but l talkedto her either later that day or the next, am not sure which as that near April 15 all days run together, butI informed her that I needed clarification of information before I could finish. She informed me that shewould be in soon. She did come on the afternoon of April 14. She did not have an appointment and Iwas with another client therefore she had to wait. Another person came in to pick-up and Mrs.[redacted] volunteered to allow them go ahead of her. She was thanked by both the other person andme. After a lengthy session, she left and her return was completed. She did return on April 15 at a fewminutes before 3:00 PM. to pick up her tax return. When I started going over her return, she becamevery upset that the return indicated a balance due. All she could say repeatedly. I HAVE NEVER OWEDBEFORE, each time getting louder and louder, and was refusing to listen to what I was trying to explain. Ihad 2 couples, who had appointments, come in. She began to pace the floor, yelling at me and shakingher fists at me. I told her we could do an extension, but I had appointments scheduled until 10:00 thatnight. She wanted me to correct the return immediately; I could not work with that going on. And Iinformed her that I could not redo it that evening and told her she could take them somewhere else. Finally she ask for them and offered to pay for what I had done. I told her I had to take them apart andshe tr¡ed to take it from me. I told her she was not taking the work I had done. She yelled at me askinghow much she owed me. I did tell her she did not owe me a [redacted] thing to just shut up long enough forme to get it apart and for her to take what was hers and get the [redacted] out and not come back. One of theladies here stood by my desk and helped me get it apart because she was afraid she was going to hit me.When I got it apart, I tossed it across in front of her and it did go in the floor. In all the confusion, I didnot get all the papers that were hers from what was to have been my file copy and she came back. Theother people and I were talking and she overheard and took everything that was said by me and those inmy office as personal toward her and what was being said had absolutely nothing to do with her. Yes,she gave the appearance of crying but there were no visible tears. I did not curse her and did not throwa writing pen at her, I did not tell her to wipe her [redacted] with them either. She overheard one of the mensay something similar to that and assumed that it was me and directed at her. She was angry at thethought of having to pay and in her mind, it was all my fault and I would not f¡x it at that moment and noone else mattered. It did not occur to her that she took the time allotted to 2 other couples without anyconsideration for them whatsoever. One of the ladies even told her that she was not listening norhearing what was really being said to her and that her accusations were not valid. At one point shegrabbed her phone from her purse and said she was calling the police on me, one of the men told herthat was what she should do since she was the one causing the entire disturbance, maybe they couldcalm her down.As for there being a penalty being involved for an extension that is only true if there is an amount dueand not paid with the extension. The extension is for filing but not for paying. I received no funds for thetime I spent doing the work and I do not owe her anything. I just do not want her ever in my office orpresence again. This is my response to the nightmare of April 15, 2015.Thank you giving me the opportunity to voice what really happened. It was a very disturbing event and Iwas very upset as were my other clients. With the understanding of the 2 couples, a couple aspirins andsome tea and time, I was able to get my mind back on the tasks at hand and did not get away from theoffice until after midnight.Sincerely,Betty McGhee, PresidentMcGhee & Associates Bookkeeping & Tax Service

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I have read the response by Ms McGhee to my complaint against her and I would like to address it. When I came in to file my taxes Ms Mcghee stated she was behind and that it would be cutting it close to the deadline before she could work on my taxes. I told her that it was ok but if she could not do them in time to please let me know so I could take them somewhere else but she assured me she could get them done in time, but in no way did she ever inform me there might be the need for an extension. I called down to her office because I had not heard anything from anyone and was told Ms McGhee was ill and she would call me back, after a few days I still had not heard from Ms. McGhee so I again called her office and finally got ahold of her and was told she needed me to come in so I scheduled a time after work to come in. April 14th. She went over my medical bills which I had every receipt and everything itemized for her for the entire year. I would like to state I have been Ms. McGhees client for the last 4 years and always had a good relationship with her and respected her and I have had medical bills the last 4 years that she has always dealt with. We went over everything and I was told she needed to work on them and I could come by and pick up my taxes the next day. The time of April 14th, Ms McGhee was bragging to another client for 45 mins. that she had told another one of her clients that he could wipe his [redacted] with his papers too and I sat there listening to her thinking she was being very unprofessional telling people this at the time but I did not respond to her then about it. I waited patiently for 45 mins and when it was my turn another one of her customers came in and Ms. McGhee asked me if I minded if she let them go ahead of me and I politely said it was ok. Ms. McGhee again started bragging to this client of hers and another 30 mins went by and her client looked over at me several times apologizing to me. Finally when it was my turn I was told I needed to come back on the 15th so she could work on my papers because she was now out of time. I did get a thank you from her client for letting them go ahead of me which I did not mind doing at all, Ms. McGhee never Thanked me or apologized to me for making me wait so long or the inconvenience of having to come back another day. I called Ms McGhee the morning of April 15th to let her know I would be by after 2pm when I got off work. I went in and overheard Ms McGhee saying she had just gotten over pneumonia and wasnt feeling well at all and she wanted to go home. There were other clients in her office at the time and I waited my turn, when I finally sat down with her I noticed Ms McGhee had made a mistake and she told me that I had owed. I did question her and told her we had never owed before and nothing had changed over the last 4 years. Upon looking at it she said we owed due to a withdrawal from an IRA of ours. Ms McGhee said there was a penalty for taking it out and thats why we owed. After looking at the paper work and calling my husband who was on the phone the entire time from here on out, he informed me that it was a Roth IRA. I then told Ms McGhee and she responded no where on the paper did it say this. The 3rd line down it states it was a Roth IRA but Ms McGhee would not listen and started getting irritate because I was trying to show her the mistake, at this time Ms McGhee said and I apologize for the language, that now she was going to have to file a [redacted] extension. After hearing I might have to file an extension for a mistake she had made and wouldnt listen when I tried to show her it and using foul language. I asked her 3 times crying and shaking for my papers and offered to pay her for her services but that I would like to take my papers elsewhere. She refused to give them to me, my husband on the phone could hear and told me to call the police and that he was on his way there. When I stated that I was going to call the police she then threw my papers and her writing pen at me and told me I could wipe my [redacted] with my papers. I bent down to pick up my papers and she yelled at me get the [redacted] out out of my office [redacted]! I went to [redacted] Tax services bawling and shaking and when I got there I noticed she still had not given me all my papers back. Upon return she stated she did and another client sitting there proceeded to look through her papers and found them and gave them to me. Ms McGhee once again told me to get the [redacted] out of her office. At no time did I ever use foul language or gestures and I even again offered to pay her and even Thanked her for what she had done up to that point. Now I am distraught because I needed to find someone in a couple of hours to file an extension for a mistake that Ms McGhee had made. Luckily I found someone to file an extension for $80 and said they would redo the taxes for $265 for a grand total of $345. And FYI: we received a $1,300 refund due to the corrected mistake. What I have lost is the $80 for the extension, hours lost from work, pain and suffering. All this for a mistake she had made and would not listen and correct. I am not surprised by Ms McGhees response and the only advice I can give her is to not take on more than she can handle.
