McGill Contractors, Incorporated Reviews (1)

Review: We hired Michael M[redacted] of McGill Contractors, Inc. back in May of 2014 to build and a 14x20 addition of the side of my in-laws house. My wife wife and I found out we were having triplets in March of 2014 plus we already ahd a 4 year-old and 5 year-old. We knew that we would need help and support from family in order to cope with this life changing event, so my in-laws offered to take us in and we thought it would make sense to contribute to the house by paying for an addition which was to include a family room, full bathroom and future full basement. After many weeks of back and forth with him on obtaining drawings and permits we finally signed a contract on June 13, 2014 for $40,500. It is now September 22, 2014 and one of our triplets has come home from the hospital and the other two are not far behind and only 65% of the work is complete but we have paid $37,500 which equates to 92% of the obligated cost. Micheal M[redacted] is now stone walling us and wants to back charge us for $13,000 of unforseen expenses that he claims he has paid for over the last 4 months and won't return to finish the job until he receives this money. Meanwhile, in the addition we don't have the following: floor insulation, source of heat, siding, gutters, water proofing on cinder block wall, stucco to finish off cinder block wall or a basement floor. With the weather changing this is completely unacceptable and the job is not completed according to township code. We have consulted with the township and other contractors and we are looking at a bare minimum of $5,000 worth of work left but upwards of $10,000 to be fully completed. I recently requested that Mr. McGill complete the remainder of the work per the terms of the contract in a timely fashion and that I would pay him the remaining the $3,000 owed or that I would have to part ways and then take legal action. He has once again balked at my reasonable request and has left me no choice but to hire someone else to finidh the job and fix his shoddy work.Desired Settlement: I will seek money for time and aggravation he has caused me and my family and also will pursue the difference in money I will now have to pay someone else to complete the job. Once the addition is complete and my family is settled then legal proceedings will begin.
