Review: I've moved my office and home quite a few times over a 38 year career and have filed only one moving damage claim in all those years, that claim was amicably settled. However, for my last move I used Mahwah Movers of Hackensack, NJ. They are the least competent and least professional movers I've ever seen and, even worse, have refused for 8 months to acknowledge my claim even though I paid for insurance. They were careless (broke several pieces of furniture and even forgot tools and a bench, leaving them in my yard when the left my old house), sloppy (left scrap paper and used tape rolls all over my house and dozens of cigarette butts in my driveway). Much more importantly, they acted in bad faith throughout. A very valuable 6'x9' carpet and pad "disappeared" during the move (2 witnesses watched them load it into their truck); the broken furniture was hidden behind other furniture so it wouldn't be discovered for several days. I paid $50 for crating an antique clock, but on moving day Mahwah just wrapped it in a blanket and refused to refund the $50. Worse yet, they have simply ignored my claim. I told them over the phone about my claim, and I mailed a detailed claim with photographs. When they said they rec'd no claim, I sent another copy by certified mail, return receipt requested. I have a post office record showing Mahwah neither accepted the package nor picked it up at the post office after I called to tell them it was there. I've sent several add'l emails and another full copy of the claim since then, but they refuse to respond. My home insurance has paid my claim in full, but Mahwah Movers owes me the difference between my home insurance deductible ($1000) and the moving insurance deductible ($250). Still, they won't respond. These guys are not only the worst movers I've ever seen, they're also the worst people I've ever had to deal with. The public needs to be warned against ever using Mahwah Movers or their affiliates for even the smallest job.Desired Settlement: My claim has been assigned to [redacted] (my home insurer), and I no longer have any control over that part of the claim. However, as mentioned above, Mahwah Movers owes me $750 for the difference in insurance deductible amounts and $50 for the crating I paid for but did not receive. That's the resolution I would like to see even though the more satisfying resolution would be to see these people put out of business.

Review: Repeated attempts to have furniture disassembled and re assembled

Repatly e mailed called since July 2015 no repairs made

Told needed parts they were order and confirmed in e mail they received them but still no contact to repair

Insurance claim made doe damaged items no resolution promised it would be resolved shortlyDesired Settlement: Settel damage claim and repair furniture that was not assembled properly with new parts

Review: When met with the representative from the moving company, she promised to include extra insurance to the total amount. My furniture was to be stored in a climate control area. Final papers with detailed info. on the charges. I never received that paper. When my furniture arrived in Florida, not only was the driver five hours late but the furniture was loaded into a truck half the size of the truck originally used on May 20th. Most of the sole of my shoes are dried and brittle, I have to throw them away since they sink as soon as I wear them. The bed's head board, and a futon were scratched to no repair. The buffet, coffee table and the stereo cabinet are all discolored, an air conditioning unit, rocking chair, batteries/chargers for a trimmer and a hedger, along with four expensive painting are missing.

When contacted the company the coordinator promised me to mail me a claim. Two weeks later I called back and her response was that "maybe it did not arrive because of her handwriting" When it finally arrived I informed her was on my way to the Caribbean and then NJ and that I will bring the claim myself. During my visit to their facilities [redacted] took me out of the office to an open area where items and furniture were all over. She intended to find my paintings there. I offered to come in and help them locate the missing items.

She responded that they will let me know but that I did not asked for extra insurance and therefore they would pay the minimum. I again asked to speak to a supervisor. A week later I called them and did not get a response until I was back in Florida. Out of all the missing and damaged pieces, I only asked them to replace the four paintings. It cost me about $700.00 for the canvas and I paid $500 to frame them. Her response was that they will pay a total of $80.00. Their driver demanded cash to be able to return. A very unusual tactic to pressure for the final payment. They met me at my bank whose manager was obviously concerned.Desired Settlement: I asked them twice to just pay for the missing painting which total $1200.00.

Review: We used the moving services of Mahwah Movers from our move from[redacted], PA to [redacted], NJ. We had missing and damaged items after the move. We contacted Mahwah Movers shortly after the move by telephone to express our concern. They told us they would look for the missing items and get back to us and send us a claim form. We called several times and finally got the claim form sent. After sending in the completed form and calling them, they said they didn't receive it. We sent a second claim form, and [redacted] claimed for several days she wasn't able to get into the owner's locked office to see if the claim form was there. She said my wife had to email it to her. My wife emailed her a third claim form but never heard back. When my wife called about it a few days later, she said that she needed to provide the amount of pounds each missing item was in order to get something trivial like $.60 per pound. My wife asked how she would know what a missing toolbox with the contents of every tool I ever owned would weigh (we value at $800.00), plus two planters we purchased the summer before for $100 each would weigh, and a missing Floor Faux Topiary that we purchased that spring for approximately $150 would weigh.Desired Settlement: We would like to be refunded for the missing and damaged items. On the Claim form provided by Mahwah Movers, we asked for:$800.00 for the Missing Toolbox & Contents of All Tools Owned$200.00 for 2 Broken Planters that were lying on our patio in pieces & had to be thrown away$90.00 for 1 Missing Ivy Floor Faux Topiary

Response:

In response to The [redacted] complaint our company receivedan incomplete claim form and [redacted] advised you to fill it out in its entiretyso it could be processed.Regarding the missing tool box we questioned the staff, they advised that theydid a final walkthrough of your home and there was no tool box left behind. This is a significantly large item that would be noticed if it was left on thetruck.
