There are two parts to this type of project, the finished product and the process to get there. Both of these were done terribly by Mr. McLean. I ended up firing him before completion as, after many many attempts, I could not get him to finish the job.
Re. the process, on more times than I can count, he failed to respond to messages, both phone and email. On multiple occasions, he failed to arrive when he said he would. Very frustrating to have a "promise" to do some work , and then no show.
Re. the final product, Mr. McLean did not properly attach the siding, and did not properly seal it where needed. A number of pieces were loose and some have even have fallen off. I tried several times to get these issues remedied, even going to his home as he lives near me, and still could not get the work done to correct the mistakes. More promises to do the work, and more no shows. Consequently, I hired someone to finish the sealing and I put the loose/fallen pieces back on myself.
As an added insult, he left copious amounts of garbage around the house - nails, siding pieces (both old and new), screws, etc. I had to pay to have a flat tire repaired after I picked up a screw he left in the driveway.
Denis [redacted] is a knowledgable, friendly, conscientious, and fairly priced builder. Of several bids he was the only one willing to come to the house several times before I signed a contract. I watched him put new insulation and siding on my home for several days. He was careful. He was clean. He took the time to do the job right from the beginning of the day till the end of each day. Denis was also a happy worker. He was patient. I asked questions and he answered each with dignity and respect. We actually became friends by the end of the job. I was almost sad when he finished it was such a pleasure to watch him work. I was very confident as the job was in good hands. Finally, I can tell you in my 50 years plus on this earth I've hired a lot of contractors both inside and outside our home. Denis [redacted] ranks at the top of my list in almost every way!
