MCP Chimney & Masonry, Inc.

Review: We had a problem with out roof leaking near/at the chimney and I got out roofer, [redacted] Roofing, to come and examine the roof. We determined that the leak was from water coming through cracks in the chimney. Near [redacted] Roofing is a chimney repair place, MCP Chimney & Masonry, so we asked them to see what they could do. When they came out I asked them to additionally put caps on all of the three openings in our chimney. Their bill states, "Waterproof chimney and seal (3) 13x13 flues with sheet metal." for a charge of $470.00. While they were performing these services one of there employees climbed on top of the chimney and walked around on the crown of the chimney which was already not in the best of shape and I feel caused additional damage to the chimney. This made me very uncomfortable but I could not speak Spanish so I could not speak with him my concerns. In addition to this, within a month I heard about a job MCP did and when they finished the roof of that house leaked even worse than before they got there. In any case, at the next hard rain we got the roof leaked just as it had before MCP had done anything. Because of what I had seen their employee do on my chimney and the report I got about another house I was not interested in having them return. (Note: I hired [redacted] who lives on [redacted] in the [redacted] area and he did a very good repair with a very good attitude.) [redacted] discovered cracks in the mortar and some damaged brick that was causing the leak problem and stated that a spray waterproofing would not fix the problem.

I should say here that the 3 flue caps MCP made were made and installed correctly.

There is a management person at MCP with the first name of [redacted]. I called and talked to him after I discovered the problem was not fixed. I also told him I did not yet want him to come to the house because I wanted [redacted] to finish up first. However, after [redacted] did finish, I have called numerous times over the last six to ten months and each time asked for [redacted]. I am always told he is out but will be in later and will call me back. In fact, for all of these months that I have been trying to get in touch with him he has NEVER returned any call. Not once. I am now feed up with trying to call him anymore.Desired Settlement: Of the $470.00 I paid I want the portion for waterproofing the chimney returned. The original estimate before I asked for the 3 flue covers was almost $400.00 so I don't want any creative book keeping done to compute the proper refund.
