Review: I came to Mr. [redacted] via a referral from an acquaintance. The reason I contacted him was to have my home computer system evaluated with a view to upgrading it. Over the phone I told him:

*that my operating system was out of date,

• and if that were upgraded many of my applications would need to be updated

• I was concerned that my hardware would no longer be compatible

• on top of that, I also was interested In having a wireless router installed, and wanted my smart phone synchronized to the computer with a cloud.

* I wanted to know what my options/choices were and wanted to know how much it cost.

At no time was any contractual agreement made or signed.

He came to my home on the appointed date. When he arrived I was just finishing up with a carpet cleaning service, which in no way interfered with his presence other than to have him wear booties to protect the damp carpets.

He arrived with a wireless router, which he had offered to bring along. Upon his arrival I escorted him to my computer work station and attempted to hand to him printed descriptions of my computer and software specifications thinking that he would begin his analysis.

He wanted to install the wireless router, period. I disagreed and repeated my request to have an full evaluation and analysis done before any of the piece parts of the recommended upgrades were done. He would not take no for an answer. We went around and around on the same path. His position was that I had ordered a wireless router and he had gone to a lot of effort to do that and that is what he was going to do.

Finally, knowing that the situation would only get worse, I asked him to leave. He repeated his position on installing the router. I asked him to leave again, and again he repeated his arguments. By now he was quite agitated, and became more argumentative and angry each time I asked him to leave. I probably asked him five times. All of this took place over a period of about fifteen minutes.

I believe that Mr. [redacted] will tell you that I ordered a wireless router, that I agreed he would install it and that he quoted me $45.00 per hour. What he seems to not remember is the rest of the request: the analysis/evaluation, the recommendation of options and the estimated total cost.

Since he left, I have chosen to have no further communications with Mr. [redacted]. He has called several times on the phone and hung up without speaking. He sent an e-mail letter and invoice and several days later I received the same letter and invoice in the U.S. mail. Just yesterday the Post Office left a notice they are attempting to deliver certified mail from Mr. [redacted], for which a signature is required.

I have not responded to his letter nor paid the bill to date. I feel strongly that his bill is out of line. He provided no consultation and there was no mutually agreed upon “job”. I have had many successful experiences with service professionals over the years. Just recently I had my entire heating and air conditioning system replaced having received three estimates and enjoyed a successful installation. I expected the same level of courtesy and professionalism from Mr. [redacted].

Just to let you know also I am frightened to the point of losing sleep over Mr. [redacted]’s behavior. He seems to remain very angry and I am concerned that he will retaliate in some fashion if he does not get his way. I am 72 years old, I live alone. If I thought Mr. [redacted] would behave rationally, be reasonable and be willing to work cooperatively, I believe that my Plea to you for help could have been avoided.

I will continue to avoid contact with Mr. [redacted] until I have heard from you.
