MDC Granite Vision Response • Aug 07, 2019

Very Happy to be of service! Thank you for your awesome review!

This project was carried out months ago and was for the amount of $I instructed *** to send his customer out to a local slab yard near his customers home for reference onlyI was very clear about our shop being based out of Fort Worth and that we use our suppliers near our shop (again
customer was instructed only to look at slab at their local slab yard and I would have my supplier near my shop ship me the material from their yard)*** gave me the name of the material that his customer wanted and I bought it, fabricated the countertops and installed themI have pictures of the completed jobEveryone was happy with the way things turned out until about a month ago when *** called me demanding to give them money back or replace the countertopsI don't know what problem he had exactly with his customer but they got what they asked forI recall *** saying the following over the phone "call my customer and try to make her happy, I asked and was told that the material you installed is the one we picked but she wants it replaced with another one with more sparkles." I called his customer numerous times to try and find our what was going on and she never answered or returned my calls.Unfortu***ly we see this very often where contractors do something wrong and and they try to make us (the granite guys) pay for their mistakesWe work very hard to keep a good reputation but can not allow to be ripped of by a customer who decided they don't like their selection any more, months after the project has been completedWe never use imitation products and we always buy superior stone productsI will not refund or replace product for a job well doneContact me with any questions. Thanks,*** MDC Granite Vision

***, I explained several times that we have a shop in Fort Worth and that your project would be fabricated out of this shopI also told you to visit any supplier you and your customer felt comfortable driving to so that you could browse for materials and that I would buy the stone from a supplier near my shopI also gave you the option to purchase the slab yourself and ship it to my shop, you preferred not to go this routeIt is not logical to ask a customer in Austin to drive all the way to Fort Worth to select a slab, you claim to have 15yrs experience which means you know that no one is going to make that driveAt MDC Granite Vision we use premium stone that we purchase from reputable suppliersThe “knock off material” as you call it, is exactly what you orderedThe slab cost me 2k there is nothing “knock off” about the stone we installedI am proud to be able to offer my customers a better price than our competitors as you mentioned but this is not due to using cheap materialsAs I said before we use nothing but premium stoneThere is nothing I can do for you as we provided the exact service and product we were hired to do so

I am rejecting this response because: As MDC says, we are never going to agree This company had a good reputation online This is why I chose them in the first place but it does NOT mean they did a good job for me I could not refuse to pay them without ruining my credit The seam already looks like it’s coming loose It looks twice as thick as any seam I’ve ever seen The smaller piece looks like a completely different slab He can tell lies about me being ok with this all day long but it doesn’t change the fact that the job done was extremely subpar and I will NEVER be happy with it!!!

Tell us why hereYet another accusation from *** ***I don’t think it would be possible to build a strong reputation like the one MDC has based on liesAt MDC we always do what is best for the customer within reasonable margins of the task on handIn this case, as it has been explained many times before, there was no way around making a seamThe best location for the seam is where it was placedIf there had been a way to not make the seam we would have not made a seamIn addition I inspected the seam personallyIt is a good seam right where we planed forThe location the customer says the seam should be is not a location that MDC does seams atThis has also been explained many timesFinally the project never consisted of a seamless installIF that had been the case I would have notified the customer that she needed a different slab*** hand picked her materials and placed them on hold at a 3rd party supplierWe picked up her selection and fabricated/installed her countertopsMy end of the deal has been completedThe request to replace or refund project is unreasonable and unacceptable*** and I walked the project together and I got her approval before collecting the final checks. Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:[redacted] says he informed me that the material yard he instructed my client to go to in Austin was for reference only and that the actual material they would install would come from Ft. Worth. This is simply not true. That was never once mentioned. Why would a customer take the time to go to a stone yard and waste time and energy to select a slab knowing that was not the slab they were going to get installed. If it was for reference only, the customer could simply pick a color off the internet. I certainly did not make a mistake. This process with counter top installers is really a simple process. I have been doing it with my customers for 15 years. The fabricator tells the customer a material yard that they have a relationship with or an account. Customer goes to said material yard and makes selection and places a hold on material. I call fabricator and ask for price for installation of the material customer chose and have fabricator install selected material. It really is very simple as long as fabricator does clean work and installs material customer chose. [redacted] and Granite Vision are cheaper than most installers in Austin and I was wondering why. Now I know- it's because they are installing some cheap knock off material, not the material from the granite yard they told the customer to go to. This should not be allowed, it's deceptive business practice. If they are going to install some material from a place close to their shop in Ft. Worth, then the customer needs to be told to go to that place to make selection. My guess is "that place" is a shipping container full of cheap Chinese counter top material. The owner of the stone yard [redacted] instructed my customer to go to came out and looked at the material he installed and told the customer that they had cheap imitation material installed. He told me that Granite Vision has an account with them, but this material was not purchased from his stone yard. Indeed, when the customer informed me that upon closer inspection, the counter top material was not what she selected, I called the stone yard [redacted] told her to go to and they had no knowledge of any purchase for that job. I called [redacted] and asked him to talk to the customer and either get the material the customer paid for or offer money back. He did neither but did  stop taking my phone calls and texts. My guess is with the cheap price that is less than most installers in Austin, this is not the first time Granite Vision and [redacted] have done this.

Tell us why here..It has been explained to the customer over and over that the seam is in the location that is was planned for. Slab size and countertop size left for no option but to place a seam in that countertop. Customer has accused us of many things throughout project without any basis for it....

[redacted] claimed that I broke her dishwasher, had to listen to her yell over the phone for a while only to find out the water valve was closed and dishwasher is in perfect conditions. She submitted a complaint via [redacted] which is the marketing tool through which we first communicated and accused me of not taking her calls. Every call, text and email was answered or returned promptly. She then accused me of harassing her for answering to her emails. Also customer sent an email saying she would do everything she could to make sure I lose every penny possible. Don't know what her motive is as we have fulfilled our end of the deal but before we started the project she mentioned that her other contractors had stoped taking her calls, didn't make sense at the moment but it does now. [redacted] and I inspected project upon completion together. She was very happy and did not hesitate to cut me a check for $1700 (about $220 was left pending because we had to replace some tiles that were broken during instal, something that her and I had already planed for due to the nature of the project). Next day she cut me another check for the remaining $220. If there were something wrong I dont think anybody would have paid project off. There simply isn’t any issues with the project and what the customer is requesting is not possible. MDC does not make seams in the area where customer wants us to redo a seam. Seams in that area will not hold over time and the seam that we made will hold. Customer claims that other companies do seams right next to the cooktop and I’ve told her that I do a ton of repair work to fix those seams other companies make in inappropriate areas. What you are asking for is not possible. 1. you saw what happens to the tile the more you mess with the countertops (easy fix, thats not a problem)2. you can’t cut for a seam on site (that piece won’t withstand the vibration) even if it does (the seam won’t be straight as you can’t obtain the precise cut form a bride saw using your hands) and you can’t transport that piece without it breaking 3. you dont have any more material 4. a seam in the location where you want it is not a good idea (over time those seams don't hold)Sincerely,[redacted]

Installation of granite kitchen countertop is subpar. Countertop required a seam. The seam is in the most visible place in the entire kitchen and is also done poorly. Was not consulted about the placement of the seam. Repeated complaints to company were unsuccessful. Owner finally responded with "...there is nothing to be done because nothing is wrong".

Tell us why here..
Yet another false accusation from ***. I don’t think it would be possible to build a strong reputation like the one MDC has based on lies. At MDC we always do what is best for the customer within reasonable margins of the task on hand. In this case, as it has been explained many times before, there was no way around making a seam. The best location for the seam is where it was placed. If there had been a way to not make the seam we would have not made a seam. In addition I inspected the seam personally. It is a good seam right where we planed for. The location the customer says the seam should be is not a location that MDC does seams at. This has also been explained many times. Finally the project never consisted of a seamless install. IF that had been the case I would have notified the customer that she needed a different slab. *** hand picked her materials and placed them on hold at a 3rd party supplier. We picked up her selection and fabricated/installed her countertops. My end of the deal has been completed. The request to replace or refund project is unreasonable and unacceptable. *** and I walked the project together and I got her approval before collecting the final checks. We can go back and fourth all day but there is nothing wrong with the project.
