Mechanics Plus Towing and Transport, Inc. Reviews (2)

Review: Upon a questionable authorization by [redacted] twsp, mechanic plus took our car with no consent or warning in the middle of the night- then would not give back car until an inflated fee of $399 dollars was paid to them. Mechanics plus took advantage of a situation by grossly over charging for this service because we (the consumer) had no say in the matter. I've attended the township meeting where mechanics was supposed to have representation but they did not show up. I intend to dispute this with the credit card I paid with and have contacted our state rep [redacted] regarding the matter. The township board had acknowledged their communication was less than adequate, and therefor points to profiteering on the part of mechanics plus due their actions of moving covertly in the night and grossly over charging.Desired Settlement: I know that average tow charges range between $100-$175. I would at least like to see the $400 charge reduced to something more reasonable.

Dear **. [redacted]:

I am writing in response to a complaint that I received from your office regarding ID # [redacted]. Per **. [redacted]'s complaint, we grossly overcharged him for his tow. In our defense, we did not charge him any more than we normally would for on impound. In fact, we charged him less as our winching starts at $175.00 and he was charged $100.00 of which $65.00 of that was refunded to him as a gesture of good faith, This would make the total of his bill $334.00, Instead of the $399.00 he states in his complaint.

As for the questionable authorization of [redacted] Township, that is not anything Mechanics Plus Towing A Transport had control over. We were obtained by the township to remove vehicles located on a snow emergency route. When we received the phone call to remove the vehicles, we went out to complete the job we were asked to do.

In his complaint, **. [redacted] accuses Mechanics Plus Towing 4 Transport of covertly removing vehicles in the middle of the night. This is something I do not take lightly as that is not a decision that we made purposely to inconvenience the township residents. We were contacted by [redacted] Township at 2AM on the night in question and per our agreement; we have an hour to arrive once the phone call is made to our shop. We were only completing a task that we agreed to see through.

Lastly, **. [redacted] stated that Mechanics Plus Towing A Transport was supposed to be represented at the township meeting and we did not show up. This statement is untrue as we were not required to be at the meeting. I had asked the township enforcement officer if we should attend and he stated that it would behoove us but it wasn't mandatory.

Review: 1) Mechanics Plus towed 45 cars from [redacted] Township neighborhoods on January 3, 2014. They charged $400 for each car, which is a ridiculous sum considering that people can get their cars back from New York City, Philadelphia, and Penn State University impoundment lots for $200-$300. Mechanics Plus took advantage of the people they towed by gauging them. As part of the bill, we were charged $24 to tow the vehicles 5.4 miles to their lot. They charged $4 per mile and rounded it up to 6 miles for the trip. In addition, we were charged $200 for tow/hook up charge, $100 for winching, $50 for lot rent for less than 8 hours, and a $25 handling fee in the yard. All of this is ridiculously [redacted]ed up to take advantage of us.

2) Mechanics Plus damaged my car upon towing it. They sliced my bumper on both the left and right side of the bumper from the bottom nearly up to the top by the trunk. As a result, my bumper now flaps in the wind while I drive. Futhermore, my car now shakes when I drive it over 40 mph. I took the car for an estimate, and I was provided with an estimate of $2606 for repairs. I need an entirely new bumper, the towing truck company also bent the frame of the vehicle/unibody, which now needs pulled and some work done on it. Finally, because of the frame/unibody damage, the wheels will need balanced and realigned, which explains the shaking that has been happening ever since the car was towed while the emergency brake was on and the vehicle was in the parked gear. The owner wrote on my receipt that Mechanics Plus damaged my vehicle and signed it. He also said he'd take care of it. Now, he's refusing to supply his insurance information to cover the damage. The owner is trying to tell me that I need to be inconvenienced by providing him with three separate quotes from three separate body shops in order for him to do anything about the damage because he doesn't want to give me his insurance info and involve them. He's also trying to get me to go to body shops where he knows the people running them, likely to ensure he gets favorable quotes. Also, the owner is trying to get me to send him the estimate I received from my body shop because he's trying to pick and choose what he pays for out of the damage his own company did to my vehicle. He has no clue what damage was actually done to the car because he claimed I just needed some new clips on my bumper when the bumper was clearly sliced to the point where it's nearly in three pieces. The owner of Mechanics Plus is also trying to place a cap on the dollar figure that he'll cover as part of the damage his company inflicted on my vehicle. Basically, he's trying to act like he might do me a favor by fixing my car, which his negligent employees damaged, and that I need to bend over backwards to suit him. He needs to provide his insurance information, and this matter should be between myself and his insurance company. The estimate is absolutely none of his business. [redacted], the owner, also tried to offer me a payoff wherein he only pays a tiny amount and I make no repairs to my car. When I said I need my car fixed, he replied, "Oh... most of the time, people just take the money and run." With the estimate I received, it will also take 11 days to complete the repairs. As such, I need a rental vehicle to get to and from work during this time period.Desired Settlement: I want Mechanics Plus to provide me with their insurance information, so I can get my vehicle fixed. I also would like a refund of the towing fee considering the damage and inconvenience, they have put me through.

Dear [redacted]:

I am writing in response to a complaint that I received from your office regarding ID # [redacted]. In our response, I would like to say that we did not price gauge any of the customers vehicles that we towed as these are our formal impound rates. To be honest, our winching starts at $175.00 for an impound and these customers were only charged $100.00 of which $65.00 was given back to each and every customer as a gesture of good faith.

In addition, [redacted]'s bumper was damaged during the tow and we offered to repair it for him.

There was no other damage done to his vehicle during the tow and the invoice will reflect our admission to the damage of bumper only. I have received the estimate from [redacted] Collision and have spoken to the appraiser in regards to his opinion on whether the frame was bent previous to [redacted]'s vehicle being towed. Per our conversation, the damage done to [redacted]'s car was from a collision and therefore; not our responsibility, with the exception of the bumper cover.

Additionally, I have been in contact with [redacted] who is [redacted]’s insurance carrier. I have met with his insurance appraiser who advised that he specifically told [redacted] that the damage on his vehicle was in no way related to the tow. The bent frame rail would be bent the opposite way if it was done on a tow truck. He also advised that his vehicle was hit hard in the rear as well. As a manager, this now makes me question what may or may not have happened to his bumper. As far as I am concerned, the bumper may have been damaged previously which may in turn have made it weaker; hence causing the plastic to crack. If you would like to contact [redacted]'s appraiser his name is [redacted] and his phone number is ###-###-####.

We have offered [redacted] assistance to repair his bumper at body shops that we do business with and we would pay for it. Since the cost of a bumper repair generally ranges between $500 - $600, we agreed to pay for it because our insurance deductible is $1000 and we would have to pay for it anyway. He would not cooperate with us in any way and was very abrasive when we tried to speak to him about the situation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at ###-###-####. Thank you for your time in this matter and I look forward to hearing from you when a resolution has been determined. Have a great day!!

Sincerely
