Splint an incorrect HCPCS code as added to the charge sheet, resulting in a more expensive wrist splint being charged for. This customer received a piece of medical equipment her
doctor prescribed to help with her condition. The item was dispensed on Sept 8
2015.
On Nov 3, customer called in saying she had not received any
item from Doctor. After we told her the specific about the product (make and
model)...

she said that she does not want the item and wants to return it.
Medequip is a billing service the supplier of the product
uses. MedWest Orthopedics uses Medequip for the billing of the item, as
Medequip is In-Network with the customer’s Insurance. By using In-Network
providers the out of pocket co-pay for the patient in minimized.
In this case, we billed the Patient’s insurance company. The
claim was processed; a portion was written off as contractual obligation and
the rest was applied towards an annual deductible; leaving a balance of $87.53
due from her.
Note that we did not receive any money from the insurance
company.
Medical products are regulated by the FDA – the FDA does not
allow return of Medical Product after they have been worn.
The item we received back from the Patient it was well worn.
Her call came after we mailed her a statement asking for the
insurance co-payment – statement showing she owes us money.
There is no ‘fraud’ taking place, as the insurance claim was
filed when the item was dispensed.
On Jan 19, 2016 Medequip decided to not pursue further
collections efforts from this customer/patient, so the balance is now $0  [redacted]Manager.

physician prescribed and he thought would benefit you following the surgery.When you called us, we contacted [redacted] and asked them what to do. They requested we reduce the bill to $295.00.You were still upset with the balance, so we got [redacted] to agree to waive the charges in full.There is now no balance on this account. - written off. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me provided that they issue a corrected statement showing the erroneous charges removed. Even though the price they are charging is "highway robbery" (as evidenced in the following link: http://www.[redacted]/Orthopedics-Comfortform-Wrist-Support-Small/dp/B0015TMA26/... I will pay the outrageous charge of $40 (just to put this matter behind me) as soon as I receive a corrected statement from Medequip showing that the erroneous charges have been removed from my account. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will pay the $40 and consider this complaint resolved.

written off per contract/agreement with insurance company.Medequip contacted Gazelle Healthcare Solutions and they have spoken with patient/customer and resolved the claim.The account has been written off on our side. A separate agreement between Gazelle and Ms [redacted] may have been reached.We consider this matter now resolved and closed.
