Media One Group Reviews (%countItem)

Last Spring, I purchased gift certificates for H & Company ( a local salon) from *** radio station). Billing slip address: *** Transaction ID if needed. I purchased 12 certificates, spending $150 ( plus shipping and handling $1.50) . The transaction date was April 21,2019 from Media 1 Group for the salon gift certificates. Shortly after receiving the gift certificates in the mail, I went for one massage. I have 9 full certificates left and one that I partially used ( $5 was used on one). I actually paid $12.50 a certificate ( promotional value was worth $25 at the salon). I did not use $122.50 of the actual amount I paid. I had hoped to get more massages with ***, the owner at that time ( who promoted that I buy the gift certificates from the radio station) but I fell ill a big portion of 2019. I had a lot of health problems. I had a difficult time leaving home. After surgery in late December 2019, I was starting to finally feel better. I called the salon (*** to make an appt and use my gift certificates ( which do not have an expiration date). I spoke with an employee of salon on 12-31-19, I was informed the salon changed hands. The new owner was only going to accept the old gift certificates until 12-31-19. The employee took my contact info and told me she would discuss it with the owner. I was told that they would not accept the gift certificates from me and that they never honored the radio station gift certificates. The salon employee recommended that I contact the previous owner via social media. The previous owner *** has disappeared off of social media. She is on *** Otherwise, I have no contact info for her. She is a ghost. She never notified me that she was selling the salon and that the gift certificates were going to be worthless. The radio station never contacted me in regards to this matter as well. I was NOT informed or aware that this was going to happen. I tried to work with *** and the credit card company as soon as I was aware of the issue on 12-31-19. Too much time past for them to help me retrieve my lost money. I tried calling the radio station on 12-31-19, I left a message. No response back. I called the number on my packing slip, ***. There was also an email address on the packing slip, I wrote an email to *** on 1-15-20. No response. After that I tried messaging the radio station via the contact page of their website. No response. I am very upset that I am out $122.50. The radio station is ignoring me. They are not taking responsibility for the gift certificates. This is unprofessional. I would like to resolve this by receiving the funds that were not used on my gift certificates, $122.50.

I still have my packing slip and all the unused gift certificates. I also have a copy of the email sent to ***.

The salon: *** Thank you. I appreciate your assistance in this matter.

Media One Group Response • Feb 18, 2020

This is a rebuttal to a complaint *** filed against Media One Group regarding Gift Certificates she purchased through our Discount Deals program for ***.

To begin, we have it on our websites that we, Media One Group, "are not responsible for closed establishments or establishments who change ownership and will not honor gift certificates”, see exhibit A. When we were notified of her situation, we at this time do not have any current Discount Deals to offer her in exchange.

We feel that this complaint should NOT be directed at us, we were simply the format for businesses to sell their gift certificates. As for us not notifying her of the ownership changes, we as well were not aware of those circumstances until she reached out to us.

We did not reach out to her, for one it is clearly stated that we are not responsilbe and two we do not have anything that we can exchange for her to choose from. As we get closer to summer, we will have more posslbilites such as ***or something of that nature.

Also please note, we did not receive this complaint until February 14th which was after the 7 day response limit, see exhibits B and C.

Sincerely

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Dear Media One Group,
Thank you for acknowledging my communication with the helpful mediation of the Revdex.com.
I feel this complaint should be directed to Media One Group. Media one Group is the company that *** has listed as the vendor for this transaction. Media One Group took the responsibility of accepting my money, their contact information is on my printed invoice (sent from Media One Group), they also mailed the gift certificates. Media One Group should be held responsible for this sale. If a dispute was filed for this purchase with *** or the credit card company; the business that completed the transaction would have been notified of the dispute. Media One Group ‘simply’ would have been that responsible contacted business.
I understand that Media One Group has no control over the actions of others (such as business owners). However, Media One Group does have control over their own actions; they can exchange or give a refund. Media One Group’s statement “not responsible for closed establishments or establishments who change ownership and will not honor gift certificates” mentions nothing in regards to Media One Group’s policy on exchanging gift certificates or refunding individuals who purchased unredeemable gift certificates. When I purchased the gift certificates, I do not recall this statement being on Media One Group’s website.

On February 18, 2020, I went on the *** radio station’s website. This was the same day I received Media One Group’s rebuttal. I was able to click on the currently advertised/predominant discount deals box on their website ( photo attached). It took me to Media One Group’s, *** website, which showed several available discount deals. Therefore, I don’t understand why Media One Group stated in the rebuttal that “we at this time do not have any current discount deals to offer her an exchange “. That clearly does not appear to be the case. If I am mistaken, then I would be happy to receive a refund via *** from Media One Group.

Since Media One Group believes there are no current discount deals to offer me an exchange at this time; I would be glad to receive a monetary refund. However, If I am correct and deals are currently available, I would be happy to exchange my gift certificates. From my understanding within the rebuttal, Media One Group appears to be willing to exchange the gift certificates. Now that the situation has been clearly brought to Media One Group’s attention, I hope we can come to a resolution since Media One Group took the responsibility of handling my funds and dispensing the gift certificates.

Thank you
