Always there, SO FAR!
Just before we joined MASA, we were RV-ER's, we got stuck with an $800 Ambulance Bill.
Not long after we joined, during the next two years, I had to be transported between two hospitals in Prescott AZ. The closest, ER, to where we were staying didn't have a Specialist who could address my choking problem. They gave me Muscle relaxers and had me transported to the Main Hospital. MASA covered what my Out of AREA benefits didn't. Then my wife had to be transported over 50 miles to an ER, when the local clinic couldn't determine what her prob was. They thought she had a Heart Attack and it was a blood-clot in her Lung. MASA covered her over-charges also!
Always there, SO FAR!

My husband and I have a lifetime MASA membership for death only (to retrieve our body and take care of all associated costs and details). I also provide this product to clients at our funeral home who are pre-planning their funerals. I am very familiar with them and have called them many times.. MASA is going to have very specific parameters as to when your situation constitutes an emergency that requires their services. You MUST fall within those parameters. This ONE gentleman who has put complaints all across the internet about their failure to pick up the total ambulance transport fee for his wife is one who, unfortunately, must have fallen OUTSIDE those parameters. I know a family in Northern Indiana who's dad died while on a cruise two years ago, and MASA was amazing at the speed, and efficiency, of getting his body prepared and brought home. They do what they say. But the don't do EVERYthing (if you are not within the 'zone' required to get their service). They are the very BEST company to trust with emergency medical or out-of-town-death needs.

I am a Life Member of MASA for since I retired.

My wife needed a ground ambulance from a doctors office in Green Valley, AZ to Tucson, AZ hospital emergency room. Because she "walked" with assistance three feet to their stretcher, MASA would not pay the $300 balance of the ambulance after my insurance paid the rest. She was connected to an IV and needed attention that I could not provide to her if I was able to drive her to the Tucson ER. If she passed out, what could I do while driving? She did pass out while waiting in ER and required immediate attention.

If MASA talks up about paying thousands of dollars to transport sick members across the world, and would not pay a simple amount for me, how confident can I be with MASA even if I could afford to travel abroad?

This is a failure of the ambulance crews. Typically, absent ongoing chest pain or difficulty breathing, patients who are ambulatory don't qualify for ambulance service. The crew should have had her slide onto the ambulance gurney, better yet they should have transferred over. Surprised the primary insurance paid.
