Went to this ER with a known issue in May.. Usually go to a walk in clinic, get the Z-pac (bronchitis), and issue is resolved. This occurs once a year and cost no more than $100.00. Went here because it was closer to home, but gave them my insurance card and asked them to call and find out how much I would pay out of pocket. After two calls they said 80/20 and my part would be around 100-200 (20%). The conversation between the insurance company and the ER were recorded. Went ahead with the service, during which I realized something wasn't right, they kept trumping up further tests which I refused. Lo and behold a few weeks later I get two bills, one for the ER for $1300 and another for the doctor for $900. They failed to indicate my deductible had to be met first. Called the ER billing inquiry number and they refused to do anything, other than settle for $100.00 less. After two appeals and grievances with my insurance nothing was done. My attorney said I was better off paying than fighting because it would cost more money, which these people know. Recently unemployed and asked for this to be taken into consideration, but of course that wasn't going to happen, they just want your money. With all the time, frustration, letters, & phone calls this has consumed nothing was considered, they even retracted the 100.00 less amount.

Refund Paid the ER portion and will be doing the same with the doctors bill to avoid any credit repercussions, but they should honor what they said to me in the ER and refund me the amount equal to 80%. Other reviews indicate the same scenario as I have encountered at this establishment as well, I've written reviews and notified local media of my experience.

Where Medical Center of Trinity is certainly concerned in regard to any customer complaint, due to HIPAA guidelines, we cannot provide protected health information without a valid patient authorization under the intent of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information, 45 CFR Parts 160 and 164, which was enacted to safeguard patient privacy.
While we are certainly not trying to circumvent an answer to this complaint, we cannot respond in respect to patient confidentiality and privacy, If the person making the complaint were to provide a written authorization, stating that we may release information to you, we would be more than happy to provide you with a response to this complaint. You also have the option to contact the complainant as I have responded to the complaint.
