transvaginal is $320. The reason that an adult exam includes the transvaginal is to get a more detailed view of the lining of the uterus, endometrium and ovaries. When only doing a transabdominal scan anatomy appears smaller, when doing transvaginally anatomy appears larger. Both are done to ensure all anatomy is visualized. Typically most referring physicians will order an Ultrasound Pelvis with no indication of transvaginal…it is just part of the protocol which is determined by the radiologists. This patient called late Friday evening and was told a supervisor would be in contact with her. I attempted to contact her this morning and left a message. I apologized for not getting back to her sooner (I was out on jury duty earlier this week) [redacted], R.T. I apologize for the inconvenience however I cannot change a Radiologists protocol as I am not a physician. At MDI we pride ourselves on providing exceptional care to our patients. If the patients referring MD is wanting to look at her kidneys then that would be considered a renal ultrasound not a pelvic ultrasound. The self pay price for a renal ultrasound is $180. I would like to rectify this complaint, but I think we need to determine the correct exam needed before moving forward.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
During the initial phone call I was asked my age. There was no mention of another exam. I have already had a CT scan of the pelvic region and what is needed by the doctor should not be disregarded by the Imaging people. The doctor is looking at my kidney, not my uterus. This is strictly denial of healthcare for patients who cannot afford to pay MDI. The doctor is the ordering physician, not Mdi. I was working when [redacted] called me back today. I work in a doctor's office so I was unable to take her call. Regardless, the physician is the person who is ordering a specific test. Putting undo financial strain on a patient after driving 40 minutes one way on a full bladder should not be a side effect of a person's illness. It was a bait and switch and the only loser is me. Guess MDI would rather stick to protocol than actually help ill people.
