Meetup Reviews (9)

Hello,I'm sorry to hear that [redacted] has had a bad experience with our platformI have just reviewed our support queues, and see that [redacted] first message to us was on March [redacted] at 3:PM ESTHis second message was sent to us on March [redacted] at 2:PM ESTThis complaint was brought to our attention on March [redacted] at 9:AM EST.While Meetup does not offer phone support at this time, members of our support team work seven days a week to respond to email requestsThe support team answers emails as they are received, and while we have goals for response times those times are affected by staffing constraints and the volume of incoming messagesFurthermore, [redacted] request is regarding a premium subscriptionHis question requires a response from a specialized agent with knowledge of our new premium subscription, further extending the response time. The subscription that [redacted] paid for, also known as the New Group Activation Fee, is outlined in section of our Terms of Service: [redacted] In an attempt to resolve this situation, we will make sure that [redacted] receives a response to his messages as soon as possibleWe will also happily refund [redacted] recent payment and remove the groups he has created using our service if he would preferThank you,Marc L***

Revdex.com: The business fully resolved the issue in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved Sincerely, [redacted]

To whom it may concern: In her response, [redacted] writes, “Organizers can remove a person from a group for NO GOOD REASON?” I must again direct her to Meetup’s Terms of Service ( [redacted] )Again, Section of our Terms of Service—which [redacted] , by registering as a member of Meetup.com, indicated that she read and agreed to—grant Meetup group organizers sole discretion to "to temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate” a membership in their Meetup groupIn accordance with our Terms of Service, we allow Meetup organizers to run their Meetup groups as they deem appropriateThat includes removing members as they see fitAs such, we will not be taking any action to intervene in this situationWhile it is regretful when such disagreements occur on Meetup, we hope that [redacted] will find another Meetup group that better suits her needs Sincerely, [redacted] Community Team Manager Meetup, IncTell us why here

Hello,I’m sorry to hear that [redacted] has had a bad experience on our platformI understand that she feels that she is entitled to a refund, and I am happy to help with thatI have reviewed our support queues and see no history of an inquiry from the email address specified in this report There is also no Meetup account registered under that address, so it is difficult for me to confirm specifics of this situation.Since no Meetup subscription costs $130, it is likely that the payment referred to by [redacted] was made directly to a Meetup organizer, not to Meetup IncMeetup HQ will review situations like these, but we ask that members first open a payment dispute on our platform so the Organizer of the group has a chance to resolve the issueBased on [redacted] ’ description, this payment was a ticketing fee for an eventOnce a payment dispute has been opened, and the Organizer of the group has had days to resolve the issueMeetup will step in and take action as long as we determine that the situation is a violation of our Payment Policies, which can be viewed here: [redacted] In an effort to resolve the situation, I will reach out to [redacted] via the email address specified in this report and work with her directly on her refundThank you!Marc L***

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted] , and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because: So organizers can remove a person from a group for NO GOOD REASON? Very shady to me I was just making a suggestion/asking a question and I got removedPlease see attached for detailed documentation of events In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above Sincerely, [redacted]

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved Sincerely, [redacted]

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolvedThey gave me back my moneyI hope they solve the stealing from the organizer but they resolved my issue with them Sincerely, [redacted]

[redacted] Dear [redacted] , I’m responding to [redacted] ’s complaint regarding her recent paymentI took a look at ***’s account, and I see that she was able to speak with my colleague on the phone, and her payment was refunded Sincerely, Lilith B [redacted] Senior Community Specialist [redacted] Meetup, Inc

The overall experience was disappointingFirst I wanted to find some hobbies or interests outside of my current group of friendsI joined some social groups and even some singles groups I am a very shy person when put into a social situation where I know no oneI decided to interact with a few people before I would show up at an overpriced event with strangersI wanted to get a feel for the group, what to expect and to be able to get to know someone before attending an event I received responses back from other interested membersThen meetup deleted my account stating I was sending spam messages!!! Apparently they have a rule against copying/pasting messages How many different ways can you say “Hi can you tell me what your opinion is of said group?” How feasible is to make sure every message is unique? Is it really spam if members are talking to each other? Isn’t the point of this site for basic networking? If I’m in a singles group isn’t the point to meet others who may share common interests? Apparently notMeetup wants you to be forced into awkward social situations and then you are free to conversate with others in your groupIn this day and age meetup might be the only site where one is not allowed to send online messagesTruly bizarre Worst part was I don’t even get a warning that what I was doing was against their Terms of ServiceJust tried to log in one day and got a message my account was deleted and would not be reinstatedThat was just bizarre Of course trying to get an explanation from customer service is like trying to get a toddler to explain why they thought it was a good idea to eat cat poopThey are of no helpYou can’t have a conversation with themThey are however really good at replying with scripted correspondence that offers no real answer to one’s specific issueAnd that includes responding back and informing them that they haven’t really explained their position, offered a reasonable solution or even appear to have actually read your email query to them In my opinion trying to get customer service to help is a complete waste of timeThey have no idea what that term meansAnd that’s apparently OK with them until we as consumers stop buying their product or someone else develops a similar model One more thing MeetUp: “Your account will not be reinstatedThank YOU for understanding [redacted]
