Review: I purchased a [redacted] (essentially a voucher) on October 15, 2015, with a January 15, 2015 expiration date for $25, which entitled me to "Kings Treat prix fixe meal for two with 2 meat, seafood, or vegetarian entrees; 2 appetizers; 2 naans; and 2 desserts". My fiance and I went to the restaurant on December 25, Christmas Day, and presented the [redacted] to our waiter and another person who I believed to be the manager before we ordered, and the manager showed us the "Kings Treat" on the menu, which mentioned an entree and dessert being included, but not an appetizer. We ordered two appetizers, and entrees from the Kings Treat selection. When the bill came, it stated that we had a $42 coupon, and a remaining balance of $16, presumably for the appetizers and tax (incidentally, the [redacted] had stated that it was a $52 value). I told the manager I had ordered the appetizers with the understanding that they were included in the [redacted], and was served under that understanding. He claimed he told me that the appetizer was included in the "Kings treat" dish (all of the food was served together, so there was no indication this was the case). Before we could resolve the issue, a woman (the owner, presumably) came over and said that there were NO [redacted]S allowed on holidays. The actual fine print terms of the [redacted] read: "Limit 1 per person, may buy 1 additional as gift. Limit 1 per table. Valid only for option purchased. Reservation recommended. Dine-in only. Not valid for happy hour specials. Must purchase a food item. Not valid for beverages, lunch specials, or buffet. Not valid on Valentine's Day. Must use promotional value in 1 visit. " Nothing about Christmas or holidays in general. When I told the owner (?) that my [redacted] was valid on Christmas and I owed nothing, and stood up, she threatened to call the police, locked the door to the restaurant (which other diners witnessed) and barred our exit, demanding that we pay full price. My fiance convinced me to just pay and let it go, rather than wait for the police to show up and deal with drama on Christmas Day. When I went home I checked my [redacted] account and saw that my [redacted] had been marked "Redeemed"--in other words, Mehak collected the $25 from [redacted], charged me $62.70 for the full price of the meal, and of course, caused unnecessary aggravation. It has been a long time since I was in law school, but I believe what she did also constitutes civil false imprisonment, and possibly a fire code violation. In any event, it was completely dishonest, unjustified, and unprofessional. I have documentation demonstrating that I paid the $25 for the [redacted], that it was marked "redeemed", that the fine print did not invalidate the [redacted] on Christmas Day, and the receipt showing that I paid an additional $62.70, the full price of the meal.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund from Mehak for $50.60. This represents the cost of the "Kings Treat" meal, plus 10% DC sales tax. I am willing to pay for the 2 appetizers ($11) and associated tax, as I believe it was a result of a genuine misunderstanding between myself and the manager regarding what the [redacted] covered. The [redacted], however, for the "Kings Treat" meal, was valid, I paid for it, and the restaurant collected it. I did report this to [redacted] as well.
