I was referred to La Jolla Dental Group by my health insurance so that they can provide me with basic dental health care. I was told that an exam had to be performed and then a cleaning could proceeded. I was told I had excellent teeth, no cavities and a small bit of gum bleeding with a small amount of inflammation. At the exam I was told that they recommended a first time cleaning procedure not covered by my insurance, which would involve an invasive procedures requiring anesthesia. When I asked to have a basic cleaning instead, I was told I could not get it, and that they would only provide me with the invasive/expansive procedure. By denying me this basic cleaning they have scammed my insurance, and put me in a tough spot. An exam at another dental provider, complete with x-rays, will cost me. Transferrin the digital x-rays from their clinic to a new one will also cost me, $50. They have scammed both my insurance and me, and do it using a medical procedure that carries risk. This dental practice is a scam, and it should be illegal to put people in the situation of choosing an invasive procedure and denying them access to the basic health procedures the insurance they suck from uses them for. They need to change their policy to permit a basic, non-invasive cleaning. This is medical coercion and consumer and insurance scamming.
