We decided to purchase a "twindominum" from this builder (one-half of a duplex owned separately from the other under a condominium agreement) while it was still under construction and have been continually underwhelmed with our decision.

The laundry room was plumbed and wired backwards (little problem if you have a washer built in 1992, not so convenient if you want a front-loading unit), the kitchen floor has squeaked incessantly since we moved in (and was finished with a large gouge missing from the linoleum in front of the sink), the house we were told should have been ready in late August was finally ready for occupancy on December 23rd, and the basement had only one functionally-useful outlet.

The kicker, though, was when the bills for the roadwork started coming in. (A little backstory - the other half of the twindo is owned by [redacted]' son/business partner. Through some family connections, we became aware of the project and were offered an opportunity to buy it. Based upon others' opinions of the people in-question, we decided to take their offer.) [redacted] told us that we would only be responsible for the bills for the finishing of the road (as this was a new construction in a new development) that directly abutted our side/frontage of the twindo. This was rather important, as the other side (the son's) was set on the corner of an intersection and had a large amount of roadway that it would be responsible for when the city finished the roads in the subdivision. Fast-forward a few years, and we received bills for "our" percentage of the ENTIRE finishing of the roads. When we called the city about it, they claimed that it was due to how the paperwork was filed and that they couldn't change it without consent of the other owner and a re-filed condominium agreement. I called the neighbor/business partner/son and asked him why the discrepancy between what he and his father told us and what we were getting billed for, he tried to shift blame to the city for "not understanding it right." When I challenged him to live up to his word, he refused, citing his rationale as "well, that's how we thought it would be."

Furthermore, the son has decided to make the other side a rental unit. This was never discussed when our purchase was made.

Any outfit that is content to allow its own professional incompetence be an excuse that they are comfortable using to evade promises that they made to customers should be avoided.
