Melody's Place

I made a reservation at Melody's Place Bed and Breakfast on April 4th for 2 nights in June via the telephone. I asked [redacted] what her cancellation policy was and she told me that she needed a 50% deposit ($150.) via check and a week's notice for cancellation. She did not tell me to refer to her website policy. Four days later on April 8th, I called to cancel because I found a place closer to the workshop I was attending. [redacted] said she had already deposited my check and would send me another; she took down all my information. A few weeks went by, I called to follow up and [redacted] said she spent my deposit, did not have the money and that she would pay me back when she rented the room. During both of these calls there was never any mention that policy on her website is different from the one she told me. I didn't read the website policy because I made my reservation over the phone and had no reason to doubt the veracity of what she had told me. I called again after the workshop weekend and [redacted] said she would send me 50% of my deposit and when I questioned this change in policy, she hung up on me. I gave her 2 months' cancellation notice, talked to her several times in April and May and it wasn't until June that she informed me of a different policy. I have not yet received any of my deposit back. [redacted]'s customer service was appalling. She accused the other B&B where I decided to stay of "stabbing her in the back" and when I told her that the other B&B had no information about her, she just ranted about how hard it is to run a B&B. She spent my deposit immediately upon receiving it and was unapologetic during every phone call. Iam [redacted] I have owned my b&b for 13 years. [redacted] originally called a b&b in the next town The Maple House and [redacted] and I are good friends. [redacted] was on a vacation for a week in April and had not returned [redacted]'s call right away. She deiced to call me and was sure she would stay with me and I told her that weekend she was booking was very popular at the workshop and was she sure she wanted to give up waiting on [redacted] calling her she said she did not want to take the chance and booked.She sent her deposit I asked her to be sure she read my web site on cancellation and she said she was fine and just wanted to secure a room. So when she talks about finding a place closer she had already tried the place and did not want to wait for a call back. She called to cancel over a week later I had already turned people away cause she booked for that weekend and all my other rooms where rented. She talks about calling weeks later and I had spent her deposit I do not separate deposit money and hold on to intill they show up and rent to use it. It is my income like anyone else of course Iam going to use it to live. She also admits in her report she did not read it. There was never a policy of sending her a full 150.00 deposit back she rented 2 nights the money is to pay for 1 night. she rented 2. I would never accuse my friend [redacted] of stabbing me in the back we work great together in sharing our connections if the other cant put them up. I may have said that to her about her way using people to secure herself a room and then cancelling later. I dont know what she means by the other b&b the Maple House had no information about me we are good friends we have been to each others house.I had nothing to apolgise to her about it. I do not rant to strangers and possible b&b people. I told her that I may or may not rent it. I did rent if for 1 night the sat. she didn't pay for but did not rent the Friday she payed for. So it is what it is she payed did not show up and then harassed me on and on phone email threatened me with this that is now happening. She got a room cheaper and wanted to get out of her stay that is what happened. I now have taken down my policy on my site and do not offer any. I was going to offer her a night in the future or different workshop I did not because we where not seeing I to I on this and I dont think it would have worked out.
