Karl Strauss Surcharge ID 12144387Dear ***We received your recent complaint to the Revdex.comWe strongly disagree as to the facts as statedWe do indeed charge a 3% surcharge, however the following information is clearly stated on all menus, our website and a notice is posted at our front door:'WE TAKE PRIDE IN THE SERVICE WE PROVIDEWe support the new minimum wage and supplemental labor ordinances for our teamIn lieu of a menu price increase a 3% surcharge is included on all guest checks."We are sorry you are upset about the surchargeOur decision to implement it in the wake of rising costs was not easyWe understand many brewpubs and restaurants will take a different approach (like raising prices) and you may be more inclined to now visit themThe reality is they are doing the same thing and you will ultimatély beaffected exactly the sameOur industry has been passing the additional costs of doing business through menu hikes for years and yet people keep voting for higher and higher wages despite the impact they may not know theyare experiencingIn fact the public pays for all the additional costs they createIn full service industries the only people making minimum wage are tipped employees (servers/bartenders) which has led to a large and growingincome gap between tipped and non-tipped employees, as much as a 300% difference in effective hourly wagesSince tipped employees are the only minimum wage employees our Brewpubs have on staff, they have been the primary beneficiaries of the minimum wage increasesWith a surcharge, we'll be able to not only comply with minimum wage ordinances but also raise pay for our kitchen staff, who we believe deserve the additional pay forthe services they perform.For more information about the surcharge and why we opted to take this route please go to www.karlstrauss.com/surcharge

Dear ***We are in receipt of your recent correspondence regarding a complaint from a guest with a food allergyKarl Straus Brewing Company takes all complaints extremely seriously. We have been communicating directly with this guest since the incident occurred. We understand
and are sensitive to the fact that some of our guests have food allergies and the seriousness that brings. We train all servers on allergy information for each menu item including our menu guides and menu tests as well as maintain a current list with all current allergen details. In this case the cashews (allergen) are actually listed on the menu as an ingredient and are visible on the dish We are very happy this guest is doing well and hope he can resolve the issue with our insurance company very soon.Sincerely,*** ***
