Merlin's Muffler & Brake

Merlin 200,000 Mile Shop was very unethical after I have used them several times. Their service technician used scare tactics to sell services. He was either incompetent or a crook. As background, the technician was doing a brake inspection. He called an hour later and told me besides the brakes my calipers were extremely bad and locked up. This was later proven false. He also told me he had been calling all around town and found the only calipers in the entire Fox Cities (saying I must use them if I want it fixed). Also proven false and pictures to support. He also implied my car was unsafe with them. When I questioned the price, he rudely told me “This is an Acura!”

I wasn’t sure I could even drive my vehicle but I choose to get a second opinion and I’ve had the brakes fixed now. The second service shop ordered calipers and was ready to install them after I told them I thought they were bad. I spoke to the two technicians face-to-face that repaired the brakes and they both said my calipers were fine. They would have replaced them if they saw any need to. Mind you these were both very experienced technicians that I have used before. They showed me the calipers they had ordered and another shop had also called to see my calipers were readily available. So they weren’t the only calipers in town as I was told. Finally, I went back to Merlin to give the manager a chance to explain this discrepancy as he has had me as a customer for over a year. He offered no reason and he never apologized.

1. Inquired over phone about oil change. Merlin's said bring it down, they mentioned it was first come first serve. I asked if any one was there now as I just live 1/2 block down st. They said no, we can do it now.
2. Upon arriving technician tried to sell me off on services I didn't need. I refused other services other than oil change. tech didn't seem to like that but all was ok.
3. Tech took my keys and then said dismissively and rudely: "We'll get to it when we can."
4. I have never ever heard that from a auto service center before. Usually they state some kind of time, an hour, 2 hrs, 45 mins, 5 mins. I was in no hurry, but I had no idea how long I might have to wait considering he said we'll get to it when we can. That tell's me nothing AND considering the guys attitude. With the way this character acted I decided to speak with the manager.
5. Manager could have cared less about the way his employee acted and employee blatantly lied to my face in front of his boss. Manager told me to "have a good day," So I did, at a different oil change center. Since the manager could care less I plan on having another good day while reporting their service to the Revdex.com.
