When MrM*** came out to our home to determine what work needed to be done he explained that he had installed the well pump for the previous owner approximately years ago and the pump had a year warranty on itMrM*** then stated he would simply "replace the pump (under warranty) and only charge us for labor". He explained that his entire crew had quit that morning so he couldn't complete the job that day but you would return on the following day
Three days passed and MrM*** had not returned to the property or contacted usWe began to getting nervous and had attempted to contact MrM*** My husband, in order to get the new pump installed asap actually left a message offering to help MrM*** if he still didn't have a "crew". MrM*** finally returned his call and said he would complete the job the following day and that we did not need to be present (I had taken work off to meet with him previously).Â
I was happy to see MrM*** at the house working when I returned home for lunch on that Friday I left about an hour later with no new information from MrM*** When I returned home from work that evening I was surprised to see both of our gallon pressure tanks disconnected, sitting with our garbage and a new single gallon tank installed. We did not request or authorize the installation of any new tanks. We had two tanks, one was slightly water logged and the other worked perfectly, not to mention they both had individual valves so if one didn't work we could simply shut it off and use the other gallon tank There was no reason to install a new smaller one AND we never discussed replacement of the any tanks, period
Then we received the bill Needless to say, instead of a bill which reflected a warranty replacement of our pump and associated labor costs we have a bill charging us for the installation of a NEW PUMP - NOT UNDER WARRANTY ($1,289.00) and a statement written on our invoice by MrM*** that says "think someone stole the old pump", a new gallon tank ($289.00) and a few miscellaneous items totaling almost $1800.00. I'm not really sure how someone steals a pump that is feet in the ground without the owners realizing it but even if it were realistic we should have been consulted before any changes in the work order were made and especially before the work was started LET ALONE COMPLETEDI was home while MrM*** was doing the work and he said nothing to me except helloMrM*** had both of our cell phone numbers and NO calls were made to alert us to the "stolen pump" and we would be paying for more than labor cost if he continued We have also since realized that MrM*** took it upon himself to switch us from a THREE wire pump system (which is what we had and wanted) to a TWO wire system

We did not authorize any changes in the verbal contract that we made with MrM***. Our agreement was simple: MrM*** was going to replace the pump, which was under warranty, and only charge us for the labor. The invoice reflects an $labor charge and we included a check for that amount with the invoice we returned to MrM***
You decide if you want to work with someone like this but thought we'd share our experience so maybe others won't go through the same headacheHe has liened our property stating we need to pay the entire amount he's chargingWe contested the lien providing him days to take us to courtHe did not
