I brought my pop up camper to them on [redacted] to repair the hitch , they told me if I put down [redacted] deposit it would insure that it would be done the following thurs [redacted] . It was not done and was told maybe [redacted] or [redacted] of the following week , again it was not done. After being pushed off several times I stressed to them that we had camping reservations made for [redacted] and need it done asap , so the job was completed and I picked it up on [redacted] Total cost of repair was [redacted] . On [redacted] me and my family set off for vacation and on the way on Rte [redacted] the trailer hitch broke off on the highway ! Frighting !!I had my 3 yr old daughter in the vehicle along with other family members and was struggling to pull over to the side of the road safely , the pop up was still attached to the vehicle but grinding in the road which destroyed my spare tire and jacks for the camper also . We had to call the State Police for help , having a small child in the vehicle on the highway was nerve racking and they in turn sent 2 tow trucks . [redacted] Ave. [redacted] , ** towed us and made repair to the hitch costing us another $ [redacted] .I took pictures before they made repair and sent them to Metalmen told them I would see them once we returned.I went to their office , the Person who did the repair clearly stated that he did it WRONG !! What ? at the possible cost of my family ??? They said they would pay me for 2nd repair and their labor but ...they only write checks on [redacted] , went there on thurs. [redacted] they said " Oh no, only write checks on Friday and we will send it " I went there [redacted] first am and was told " I will give you [redacted] that's it , take me to court " By the negligence or lack of experience this could have gone very bad and people could have been seriously hurt . Very disappointed in this company , thought they were reputable and good business people but even the owner wouldn't come out to talk to me .Desired SettlementI would like complete refund of the original cost of [redacted] plus the cost of the tow and repair made totalling [redacted] , Plus [redacted] for new spare tire and jacks which were destroyed when hitch let go , Total [redacted]Business Response Mr. [redacted] hired us to weld on a new hitch to his trailer, which we did. He did NOT ask us to inspect or repair any other part of the trailer. He sent us pictures of the trailer after it broke down on the road and the hitch we welded on was still fully intact. The pictures he sent showed that the trailer ripped itself apart. The trailer must of have had other structural issues. We later learned that this was a salvage trailer he purchased from [redacted] This trailer had been in a serious accident and was considered a total loss by the insurance company. It was totally irresponsible of him to operate this trailer with his 3 year old child without it being properly repaired and inspected as per state law. We offered to reimburse Mr. [redacted] for the labor portion of the welding of the new hitch to help him out but he refused our offer. He said he wanted over $2,000 for his suffering and damage or he would take us to court.
