Review: We hired Metro One Construction, Hung S[redacted], to convert our basement to a legally compliant basement apartment, and add a master bathroom with a walk-in closet. on the upper level. This was to take 2 months to complete at a price of $138,000. After they received the second payment of $46,000., the work slowed.

We asked that the start the basement apartment first, so we could begin renting it. The contract also stipulated Metro One Construction was to provide the architect and pull required permits. The failed to pull all required permits. Hung S[redacted] kept ling to us about the time needed to complete the drawings, and now we learn the "architect" is not a licensed architect, but only draftsman....despite telling us the architect would cost $10,000.

The had left several openings exposed to the weather and mold soon set in. We explained to Hung S[redacted] that I have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease,, and I am susceptible to mold spores. Hung S[redacted] did not care, nor remedy the hazard.

We finally told Hung S[redacted] and his wife, Kelly, that we were considering hiring an attorney. The asked for more time at a reduced cost. We agreed, and signed another contract.

Shortly afterward, workers stopped coming altogether. Hung S[redacted], and his wife both lied to us on numerous occasions, and stole our money. DCRA is involved, as is the State Attorney General's office.

DCRA is making us remove drywall and expensive tile to show them the wiring & plumbing.

A lot of the new walls are crooked, light switched are also crooked. Stay away from this thief.Desired Settlement: I want this thief out of business, and Hung S[redacted], and his wife to be sitting in jail. I want my money back, and I will be a thorn in ever agency's side until this is resolved.

Review: This business performed a bathroom rennovation on my home and the work was extremely unprofessional and shoddy. For example:

1). Tiles were not cut with approprite saw so their appearance is jagged

2). The bench for the shower was not installed correctly. It is VERY crooked.

3). The door was not installed correctly and does not close properly.

4). The incorrect globes were installed in the bathroom which caused the recesses cannisters to burn and be damged

5). The installation of the radiant heating floor did not follow manufacturers instructions so my warranty is now void)

[redacted]5) MOST IMPORTANTLY the wiring was extremely dangerous and the entire bathroom was "live" and my daughter touched the shower fixture and was electrocuted/shocked. This happened twice and I had a master electrictian inspect the work (I have photos and an affadavit). His conclusion was that the work was extremely dangerous, could have killed someone, and that the contractors had NO idea what they were doing. I note that the contractor came around after the second complaint and insisted it was another contractor who was completing renovations in a separate room. I note that the elect. in this room was in a completely differnt circuit. And further, I have photos and opinion of master electrician of the actual work done in the bathroom so this is just a red herring

I want to thank the contractor for attempting to contact me via linked-in as my complaint has been on my to do list for a long time but with a young family it has slipped.Desired Settlement: Refund cost of repairs conducted by my electrician. Apology for potentially injuring my family. Refund for shoddy work as mentioned above .

Business

Response:

We were not given any opportunity to repair the work or informed of any problems. There were other contractors working in the adjacent rooms. We are willing to come out to repair any part of the work the customer is not satisfied with as our work carries a 1 year warranty.

We will be willing work with the customer to resolve any issues.

Review: The company is hired to finish a basement in DC in May 2014. I was told that the project will be done in two months. As of today, the project is not completed. I have contacted the company many times, even told them that I am going to file complains. But they still haven't responded to me since 10/30.Desired Settlement: Finish the work asap

Review: Metro One agreed to remodel my house and obtain all the proper permits.

He did not get the permits throughout the construction process and has still failed to get all the necessary permits.

We went for final inspection in January 2014 and failed because the work he performed was not up to code. It is July 2014 and we had another inspection and he has been unresponsive.Desired Settlement: I want the contractor to finish all work in a professional manner within a short time period (one that is considered reasonable by an independent party). I want the contractor to bring the house up to code to pass final inspection per our contract and per the recommendations of the [redacted] Building Inspection Department. There will be no compensation for the work since the contractor has already been paid.

Review: In January of 2013, I hired the company to remodel my kitchen. They relocating my washer and dryer from the kitchen to a closet on the second floor. The company warranted that it would abide by all code regulations and laws of Virginia, as well as obtain general building permits and/or trade permits.

In August of 2013, I began experiencing issues with the dryer. Clothes placed in the dryer became very hot without actually drying. In early September, I contacted a dryer technician, who examined the issue. He found that not only were the dryer vents nearly twice the permissible length under applicable code, but an incorrect type of vents had been installed. After the dryer technician inspected the work, I proceed to contact the company to determine why the installation was not up to code. I expressed concern with the safety issues raised by the negligent installation, as the remodeling of the kitchen entailed installing new electrical, plumbing, water, and gas lines. Also, prior to the remodel, I advised the company that my residence had tested positive for lead paint. The company warranted that it followed safe lead-based practices, but I saw no evidence of this warranty.

I ended up hiring a new company to properly install a new dryer vent costing $791.77. I followed up with the company on numerous occasions both to obtain information about whether the dryer installation had been inspected, and to obtain reimbursement for the damages caused by the faulty dryer vent installation.

My attempts proved futile, either because of the company's failure to communicate or their unwillingness to address my specific inquiries. For example, on September 29th, 2013, the company relayed that the owner would come to my residence to discuss the issue. The company failed to appear. The company then rescheduled but instead sent workers who had not been informed of the nature of the problems. Later, the company sent the incorrect type of inspector to my residence – a home warranty inspector rather than a county inspector. I also inquired – over email, text, and the phone – as to whether the company had properly inspected the work, and they never directly answered my questions.

In Nov, I obtained legal counsel. My lawyer mailed, via certified mail, two demand letters in December to both addresses listed for the company. They never responded.

I proceeded to get my own permits which cost $201.67. [redacted] county inspector came and assessed the overall work performed by the company. They provided detailed reports with numerous electrical and plumbing to include gas lines code violations.

I recently hired a new company to fix both electrical and plumbing issues with an estimated cost of $5300. Both the [redacted] county inspector and the new hired company found electrical work performed by the company put my family at risk by overloading circuits and displayed a complete lack of knowledge associated with electrical work.

I believe in good faith that I've done all that is reasonably possible to resolve these issues amicably. Because the company has proved uncooperative and uncommunicative, however, I'm now prepared to take legal action unless I'm immediately compensated for my damages. This is because under Virginia law, the company has clearly breached the Agreement. The company breached their obligation by the faulty installation of the dryer, failure to pull the proper permits, and failure to obtain the proper inspections. Furthermore, the company was dishonest about what certifications they had and how they were not qualified to legally perform the work. If fraud or bad faith is indeed proven in court then the company would be responsible for attorney fees on top of what I would be demanding.

The company's negligence resulted in damages to include the cost of installing the new dryer vent, costs of obtaining the necessary permits, fixing items not up to code, and other miscellaneous costs and more importantly, needlessly put my family in danger.Desired Settlement: I'm asking the company for reimbursement for the damages caused by their breach of the Agreement and fraudulent work. Specifically, I'm asking to be reimbursed for two-thirds the cost of the remodeling, which amounts to $17,966.00, plus my current out-of-pocket expenses amounting to attorney’s fees of $250.00, cost of installing a new dryer vent at $791.77, obtaining permits at $201.67, and correcting the electrical and plumbing code violations with an estimated cost of $5,300. The total amount I request, which I believe would bring a fair and equitable end to this matter, is $24,509.
