Review: I have lived at [redacted] for almost 3 years and it is currently owned by Metropolitan Associates. I have never had any real problems in the past until the new management company took over. The main problems I have is primarily with [redacted]. I currently live in building [redacted] and I transfered to this unit in June of 2014. Prior to that I lived in unit #[redacted] for two years. When I moved into unit #[redacted] it was not clean. There was cat hair everywhere and I complained to Ms. [redacted] of that on more then one occasion. The first day that I moved in she entered into my unit without getting verbal permission or giving a 24 hour notice to enter. She did a showing of my apartment when I was not home and all of my property was exposed and out in the open and someone could of stole something. The person that was helping me move was there however and she lied and told him that she got my verbal consent which was totally untrue. When I arrived at my apartment she was coming out of my unit with a hispanic family that she did a showing with and lied again by saying she got permission to show my unit from the person that helped me move and he is not on the lease so she wasn't able to get permission from him anyways and he did not give her permission to enter either. One another occasion Ms. [redacted] said she could smell marijuana when she was sitting in her office and was able to trace the smell back to my apartment. I was completely offended and embarrased that she would accuse me or my guests of doing something like that. Myself nor my guests do not engage in illegal activity of any sort and for her to put the blame on me was inappropriate. There are a lot of apartments on my floor and to accuse me when it could have been anyone of them was insulting to say the least. On another occasion Ms. [redacted] tried to insinuate that my boyfriend was living with me when he has his own place. After I told her no we just spend a lot of time together then she went on to say if he has the keys to my place and he's not on the lease then I would get evicted. I don't feel that her behavior was appropriate after I told her that he doesn't live with me. I am allowed to have guests and she is making me feel like I can't do that. On several occasions I have complained about the tenants that live directly upstairs from me because of how excessively loud they are. She said that she spoke with them but the problem just continued. On another occasion I had a pest problem because the screens on the windows don't fit so there were close to one hundred box elder bugs that kept coming into my apartment. The most recent situation that I am dealing with in regards to Ms. [redacted] is the fact that she is saying my apartment was to cold and because of a complaint that another tenant made about their pipes being frozen so she entered my apartment to turn my heat on because I was out of town and lowered it because I wasn't going to be there. Also since the screens don't fit on the windows this causes a serious draft even with me tapping the windows and trying to insulate them. She said that was against the rules of my lease and now she is serving me with a 5 day notice. Instead of just being a good property manager and informing me of the rules of the lease because there are so many it is easy to forget some of them. Instead she decides to serve me with a 5 day notice and put that in my file. She also mentioned that the tenant that complained about their pipes freezing wants to be compensated for their heating bills. She told me that she was just giving me a heads up as if I am responsible for it. My electric bill has between $250-$350 every month this winter which proves I don't turn my heat down. I only did for a few days when I was out of town. Despite all of these complaints Ms. [redacted] has been very rude and unprofessional towards me on various occasions. I feel like I am being harrassed and targeted. I don't feel comfortable living in these apartments anymore. I feel like when she receives this notice she will try to retaliate and evict me on any grounds that she can. I have never been evicted or had any notices in my file except for when I had to pay my rent late twice in the three years that I lived there until now.Desired Settlement: I would like to be let out of my lease immediately do to fear of retailation and feeling uncomfortable as well as targeted.

Response:

I'm in receipt of your letter [redacted]. After discussions with the resident on March 3, 2015, we believe we haveresolved the problems the resident was facing.Ms. [redacted] and I discussed the issues in detail that led to the issuance of the notice and communication improvementsthat both of us feel comfortable with.Ms [redacted] has issued a notice to vacate her apartment at the end of the lease, and to my knowledge, does not want tomove out immediately. If however, Ms. [redacted] does wish to move, we will begin mitigation process immediately andwill do our best to re-let the apartment. Both you and Ms. [redacted] can feel free to contact me a [redacted] should you wish to discuss the matter further, otherwise, I will consider th s matter resolved.

My wife worked for Metropolitain Associates for about a month after Gallina Management sold the complex to them. She originally worked for Gallina until Met bought the complex via auction. She had to quite her job and move back home due to a family emergency, leaving me to pack all of our belonging. Because she was an employee, SHE only had two weeks to move out, but I was also on a lease, therefore, I should have LEGALLY received 30 days to move out. Met [redacted] rudely told me he didn't care about me and that I have only two weeks to pack up a family of 3 and get out. We lost EVERYTHING. Furniture, personal items, collectibles, family heirlooms, etc. This situation devastated all three of us, especially our 7 year old. He lost all of his toys. This company does not only NOT care about their employees, but they also do NOT care about their residents. Stay away from this company and their apartment buildings. You will get completely screwed!!!

Review: I have been living in Metropolitan Associates apartments since 2010. Currently I reside in [redacted] I have been having noise issues from apartment ** all night and I have been have problems sleeping. I complained about the noise issues about 4 to 5 time but till now the problem has not been cleared. The management told me that they will talk to them but nothing has been corrected. I also complained to the management that a male living in apartment ** has been punching the walls, knocking on the walls, and has also been coming to my door and been threatening while drunk, and I also had to call police due to my wife being threatened and scared, I was told by the management that, they could not do anything about that, and I was told that if I want to vacate the apartment I can but will have to pay for the reminder of the lease. On November 27th 2013, [redacted] was called again because male from apartment ** was becoming violent and was punching the walls and shouting loudly. This problem also has not been addressed. Due to these incidents, my and my wife has been under stress and my wife has been so scared that she refused to stay in the house by herself. My son on few occasions was also at home when suddenly loud banging noises started to come from apartment ** and the individual started to punch the walls again. While my son was with us, he also witnessed the individual from apartment ** coming out and knocking our door and threatening us. Management has done nothing to solve our problem and it is getting worse day by day.Desired Settlement: I request that my remainder of the lease be canceled and I be allowed to leave and find another apartment through a different company. I am not able to stay any longer and I would like them to cancel my lease without charging me for the remaining months.

Response:

Dear Mr. [redacted]:

In response the above ID complaint, we offer that the resident has made complaints about noise and his neighbor. It

appears that this situation has ended (as we have not received any complaints from the residents since 12/5/13). We have

responded to both offending residents and do any time we receive noise or any other complaint.

We have offered that the resident give us written notice to vacate and we will attempt to mitigate losses to the best of our

ability. It appears that we have received notice on three separate occasions (February 2013, May 2013, and November

2013) from the resident, and each time the resident has rescinded his notice. We have not received any noise complaints

from the resident since 11/27/13. While this complaint was received in your office on 12/5/13, we haven't received any

further communication regarding noise or any other issues in the apartment, leading us to believe that the issues have been

resolved.

Given the above, we will consider this matter closed, and as always, will respond to our residents in an expedient manner.

We apologize for the delay in response.

Numerous calls to management at the Morgan Grove Office regarding noise in the hallways from children, have not been taken care of...but thee most insulting complaint is two tenants, two separate apartment units, located next to each other in the lower level of building N2 on Morgan avenue smoke marijuana frequently and the response by management is 'we cant do anything, call the police'. that is unacceptable....we reported not only something illegal, but I believe it is a violation of there lease.

I've lived in their Shorewood apartments for a few months now and I can only say that I never want to leave. The landlord ([redacted]) is always around and easy to get a hold of. He knows makes an effort to learn every tenants name. When our heat wasn't working, he had the maintenance guy go up to my apartment immediately to take care of it. To say the least, he's the best landlord around.

On Saturday July 26th 2014, I called Metropolitan Associates because all morning I could hear some scratching in the kitchen vent and also the bathroom vent. I reported the situation to [redacted] down at Parkview who told me that the situation was not an emergency and that I would have to wait until Monday to have maintenance come over. SHe added that iot was probably mothing to worry about.I insisted, telling her that it sounded to me like a rodent trapped and it was trying to get out of the vent. She finally promised that she would contact someone to see if that was an emergency otherwise if they say it was not one, then she would need to send someone on Monday.During the rest of the week end the noise continued. and then I don't remember when it stopped. No one came to look at it. On August 4th in the night, just before midnight I entered my bathroom and found two maggots in my bathtub. I got everything out of the bathroom, cleaned it with bleach, ajax and pine sol and put the vent on to dry the mopped floor. I came back few minutes later and found more maggots crawling on the bathroom floor. I decided to call management and addressed the situation living a message on their emergency line. It was 12:09am. 12:39 am no answer, no one called so we decided to get a hotel room my Husband and I and our three kids (7,5,3) because at that point the maggots were crawling out the bathroom and they started getting on the carpet on the hallway. First thing in the morning, I called them back and talked to someone who relayed my message to the supervisor [redacted]. They claimed that I did not leave a message on the emergency line but the general line. It was my word against theirs but I know that it was in the emergency line because this was not the first time that I was using this line. Then they promised that they will send maintenance. I asked them that I wanted the carpet to be cleaned and they stated that only the areas affected which were at that time the hallway in front of the bathroom and my bedroom will be shampooed. I insisted to have all the apartment carpet cleaned because those bugs were crawling out and could be anywhere by now but they did not accept that option. They also said that they will take the vent out and see if an dead animal was trapped in there causing all those maggots to come down. They actually found one ( a squirrel) and removed it.I went to work on Monday Uagust 4th and when I came back to my apartmen, I found a dry carpet, with the same items that I put out on the hallway still sitting there which meant to me that they did not clean my carpet at all. my room had all the signs that no one even entered it, my pillows on the floor, and some item on the floor. The maggots were still crawling in my hallway, my bedroom and both bathrooms. I called the after hour maintenance guy again who came and stated that he was there in the morning and that he knew nothing about maggots. His response to all these maggots crawling were to pick them up one by one an just flushing them out down the toilet. When I asked if he had some kind of spray he went out for a while and came back with a Raid bottle. he sprayed it all over and left, suggesting that I should do like him and put those crawling maggots down the toilet!
August 5th. I called again in the morning talked to corporate who said that they were nothing they could do but the same thing that they did the day before: shampoo the carpet and then check the vent again ( still by maintenance). I demanded that my place be disinfected with pest control and had to insist for that. they finally decided to do it after several request. I went back home after work and the maggots were out and alive. The cleaning was lousy and they sprayed something that smelled like a deodorant, they did not leave anything explaining to me what they did or did not do. nothing was moved.I again called and talked to an other employee who recognized that pest control did not treat the entire area and that they will do it the next morning. the extermination is again pushed to Thursday August 6th. Why? I do not know. I called corporate several times to address the entire issue after that left sevrela messages but no one is getting back to me. This morning (Aug 6th) they decided to call aomeone to deep vaccuum the entire place. he showed me maggots coming form the vent still alive. I took a lot of videos and pictures, contacted consumer protection who stated that I should file complaint and also ask for a building inspector from health department which I did.
had they come on July 26th the day I called them addresing the issue I would not be in this situation trying to find where to sleep and what to do.

This business discriminates against single mothers on ssi, with disabled children. They say they are accommodating, but they lie. All anyone has to do is complain about the child's behaviour issues and they will kick you out. They intimidate the public attorneys to the point they won't represent you. The organization is people who claim they have disabled children that never are loud and that if your children act out, your bad parents. A cheap alternative for housing that isn't worth the price.

We were concerned after we moved in that the repairs to the apartment would not be made, so we documented everything and sent e - mails to the company. They never repaired the screens, or shiwer. Then about 6 months after we moved in our bath room flooded. They never finished the repairs and we were not able to use the shower in the master bath for the entire time (23) months we lived there. They are now refusi

ng to give back our security deposits and adding on other charges, even though their lease agreement states that if they do not do repairs with in a timely manner you are automatically on a month to month lease and are only required to give a 60 day notice - which we did. We also took pictures when we moved out with the property manager in them to prove the condition of the apartment. It is also a 3 bed room, which according to the leasing agent, there is a long waiting list and should be rented out very q

The staff at Metro are outstanding, both at the main office and at the sites (Morgan Grove and St. Greg's) they are very helpful and respectful. They made our family feel like we were family.
