We moved, stored, and delivered this client’s household goodsThroughout our relationship, there were several instances where we went above and beyond to make her happyWe did not lose her boxes, and we sent a repairman out to assess and fix the damages she is referring to, all of which were
minorShe has taken a very opportunistic approach to filing a claim after her move, presenting us with overwhelming figures and hoping some will stickWe were more than cooperative with the detective she sent, and nothing came of the accusations
Based on our dealings with this client, we are honestly not surprised by the hyperbole of this complaint, and hope that consumers look to the abundance of perfect online reviews of ours for a more accurate portrait of our services

*** *** has every right to be upset if he hasn't received the checkWe have issued checks for this issue and are certainly not intentionally avoiding payment or delaying this on purposeAll of the complaints mentioned were brought to our attention, and we agreed on a reimbursement check
of $to mitigate the costs that went beyond the estimate and to address some grievances with the serviceAdditionally, we quickly hired a company to clean the stained sofaIn fairness, the work we did was greater than the scope of work requested by this client via emailFor example: the crew had to move a sofa down eleven flights of stairs because it wasn't disclosed in advance that the sofa did not fit in their elevatorI am the manager mentioned in the complaint, and I have not been ignoring this issueI had been away, and upon return reached out to the client on 7/to ask about receipt of the check and did not hear backToday (7/26), I wrote the client again and left a voicemailMy goal is to get this resolved and behind us

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the responseIf no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:
Thank you for your continued efforts to resolve the dispute between Metropolitan Moving & Storage and ourselves. We have studied the response from *** B***, our primary contact and co-owner of Metropolitan Moving & Storage LLC and have the following replies:
1. We are disappointed that **B*** did not address the issues we raised in our response to **Justin M***, General Manager of Metropolitan Moving & Storage LLC [see below]. **B***’s response is a continuation of ignoring Metropolitan’s responsibility of settling compensating us for damages and their responsibility of sending us our remaining property that they neglected to pack in the original shipping container. This is grossly contrary to the Revdex.com standards for trust, integrity, truthfulness, transparency, and honoring promises.
2. In the first paragraph of **, B***’s reply letter, he acknowledges his desire to refund us $for the damages to our motorcycle. To date we have not received the refund he has repeatedly promised or the $for the damaged glass for our calligraphy
3. **B***’s second paragraph addresses his inability to negotiate a low price to have the oversea shippers transport our remaining possessions to Hawaii. There is no indication that he investigated any other shipper and has apparently given up the effort to fulfill his responsibility to atone for his company’s negligence of not packing all of our possessions the first time. He is still responsible for sending our possessions that were left behind by his companyThis negligence has nothing to do with the overseas moving company whom we contacted to deliver our goods to Hawaii because they did not pack the original shipping container. As we have repeatedly said previously, Metropolitan was responsible for packing the shipping container with our possessions and failed to pack all our things
Since he couldn’t find an acceptable price for the shipment he offers us $for our possessions. Our possessions and his relationship with his customers are apparently of very little value to **B***. However, to us, much of our remaining possessions are irreplaceable, particularly for $450. We find his $offer unacceptable.
4. **B***’s third paragraph addresses insurance. We discount his argument that his legal liability for the shipment of our remaining possessions is limited by shipping insurance rates. Again, Metropolitan was negligent by not packing our remaining items in the original shipping container. **B*** needs to face this raw fact and his responsibility to carry the full cost of shipping our remaining property. This is not an insurance issue
5. At this point, we expect a full refund of what we paid Metropolitan along with all of our missing possessions, the check for damages as promised, and $10,
Sincerely,
***neth G.W***

Thank you for your continued efforts to resolve the dispute between ourselves and Metropolitan Moving & Storage. We have studied the response from **Justin M***, General Manager of Metropolitan Moving & Storage LLC and have the following five replies:
1. **M***’s reply is without full consideration of Metropolitan’s responsibility for their handling of our possessions during our move. Our issue has everything to do with the local handling of our possessions by his company up to the point that the shipping container was sealed and handed off to *** *** on November 13, not October 30th [as stated by **M***]
2. **M***’s note is not particularly accurate either. There were three dates, not two, that Metropolitan removed our possessions from our home to their warehouse for storage: July 31, September 5, and October 30,
3. Furthermore, **M*** states they completed their inventory and passed it along to *** *** for transport to Hawaii. Either **M***’s inventory was not generated during collection of our possessions from our home, is incomplete and inaccurate, or is fictitious. Revdex.com:I will just succinctly reiterate my points as I trust that *** ***'s further testimony only strengthened our position:The items were in her OWN self-storage for yearsEven if we were liable, she reported the missing items well after the day window to do so expiredThe inventory that she approved does not list any rugs.We are always more than fair and reasonable with our clients when it comes to these mattersWe always take responsibility when the situation calls for it, but in this case we will not be bullied into providing compensationBeginning Feb29, *** *** bombarded our office with allegations of theftShe was even offering advice as to how to scare our men into admitting the theft. I will be out of the country until April 5th, so I ask that any ruling that the Revdex.com makes can wait until my return - thank you. Justin M***

Good morning, [redacted]:

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:At this point, it is obvious that Mr. M[redacted] is illiterate.  If he had bothered reading the original complaint we filed with you, and all subsequent rejections to his responses, he would have realized that we asked for $500 for two reasons:1: After our initial agreement, as we continued to unpack, we found far more damage to our furniture and belongings than originally suspected.  The fact that Mr. M[redacted] is referring to our damages as "minor" clearly shows how little he respects us as customers and the value of our belongings.  Also, the cleaning service he hired to clean our couch wasn't disputed by us; he just keeps bringing it up in a pathetic attempt to elevate what little he did to resolve this situation (which, for the record, we had to fight for after his mover lied to our faces about marking our couch).2: It took the business over two month to mail us the check for $275 that we originally settled on, and only after sending multiple emails politely reminding them that we hadn't received it yet, half of which were ignored by Mr. M[redacted] (because, according to his eventual replies, he takes a vacation every other week). If he is not going to compensate us for the additional damage we found after our initial agreement (which, again, is half the reason we filed a complaint with you), we will ensure his extremely unprofessional and inexperienced company loses more business by spreading the word in every manner possible, which we had avoided doing up until this point because we were trying to resolve this in a civil manner.  Thankfully, this will be available for the public to read, and any logical person will be able to deduce who was right and who was wrong, as long as they are literate.  Potential customers of Metropolitan Moving: heed this warning.  Read the other complaints against this company; a pattern is clearly evident.
Regards,
[redacted]

Revdex.com:This is should be an open-shut situation here. [redacted] is claiming missing items from a move from over 2 years ago. On February 14th, 2014, our crew moved her from a condo in Northwest DC into her own unit at a [redacted] facility in Rockville, Maryland. On February 9th, 2016, we...

moved the contents of the storage unit back to a different DC condo. She reached out to us almost three weeks later on February 29, 2016 to report the missing rugs. Based on this, we are not liable 1) for the fact that her shipment was in a self-storage facility for over 2 years. We have no way of knowing if there was any activity in or out of that unit during that time and 2) according to Section 7 (a) of our Bill of Lading, claims must be filed within 10 days of the move. Furthermore, and contrary to what she alleges, we did write up an inventory for the 2014 move (attached). [redacted] approved and signed the inventory in 2014. Nowhere on the inventory is a box of her Afghan rugs. We did not move the rugs she is claiming. [redacted] has called our office at least 6 times, each time alleging that we stole her rugs. I have told [redacted] that I feel badly for her loss, but we are in no way responsible, and that she should contact the police if she believes she is a victim of theft. Our staff would be more than cooperative, though I know law enforcement would not pursue this on the grounds that I covered earlier. Metropolitan Moving & Storage prides itself on it's reputation. We move roughly 2000 homes each year; many of which are multi-million dollar properties, and we have never had an incident of theft. The crew from 2014 are all still with us today, and have demonstrated nothing but skill, professionalism, and integrity during their employment. Please contact me with any questions regarding this issue - [redacted]. I hope the evidence speaks for itself and that the Revdex.com will do the right thing and dismiss this complaint. Best regards,Justin M[redacted]General Manager

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:Attached is the Bill of Lading from Metropolitan Moving and Storage that clearly states that in addition to kitchen and china ware, rugs were also part of the property that were moved to the storage facility.  Also note that the three rolls of shrink wrap they have charged me for were used to wrap the carpets to protect them. They couldn't have shrink-wrapped my china, for which they used boxes and rolls of paper.  That Metropolitan should state in their response to my complaint that rugs were not moved shows they are lying and that they have not been honest in their dealings with me or in sharing the facts with Revdex.com.  Over the weekend, I will also be getting an email testimony from my neighbor Bill Jannick who accompanied me to the storage facility and is witness to the fact that Metropolitan staff moved my rugs.  I would appreciate if the case can be reopened and facts reconsidered before a decision is made. Also, please acknowledge receipt of the email and the attachment. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

We have not heard from you since your email last week Wednesday.  We have not heard from any shippers either. We have called you on several occasions with no answer and no return calls.  Please let us know what the status is of our belongings which we expected last week.  And still no check in the mail for the damaged goods.

[redacted] & [redacted],

My apologies for not connecting with you yesterday. We are tracking the check/letter written for you last week. Our records show that the check was processed and sent. I will confirm. I have not heard from the shipper but expected to have the belongings in Hawaii by now. I am calling the shipper and will get back to you by email with an answer regarding the delivery. Expect to hear from me later today.

The lift van has 6 boxes, 2 bikes, a dresser, and possibly more. I am working on having the shipping company contact you by email or phone. They tell me they will call a day or two before arrival.
I will call/email them today for an update. I appreciate your patience.

Re: urgent

[redacted] & [redacted],

I am not sure why the initial credit did not post on your statement. We are having our credit card vendor reprocess your initial claim reimbursement of $790.00 for the motorcycle and calligraphy. I left a voicemail and sent email regarding the lift van that has been sent with your other belongings. I will have an arrival date or window for you tomorrow. I will follow up with an email regarding the lift van delivery. My apologies for the credit card credit delay. It will appear on your statement in a few days. It takes a couple days to post.

Re: Damage Claim

[redacted],

Thank you for returning the claim form.

Our legal liability for local and long distance move claims is based on $.60 per pound per article per shipment for clients without insurance. Also, because the shipment was handled by so many parties the liability for loss and damage for an overseas shipment is cloudy. There is no real liability for the damage done to the motorcycle. It was crated by a third party. It was put in an overseas container, lifted on and off of ships and/or trains by cranes, and redelivered in Hawaii. I have agreed to pay for the glass ($83) and I have persuaded the crating company to refund $600 toward the motorcycle damage. We currently have $683 in claim money to send or credit to your credit card. You mentioned that the credit card refund may be best and that is fine.

In the interest of being precise, lets re-explore the claim once you have received the second delivery. After you have received the next delivery you will know what exactly is missing or damaged.

My apologies for this long process. I am interested in getting the best result for you and I appreciate your patience.

Sincerely,
[redacted]

4.  It is also noted from Mr. B[redacted]’s March 4th and May 7th emails that an attempt to send our missing possessions to us with a promise to update us with information on the shipment.  (Previously, he called us to request that WE rent a truck to pick up our items at the dock rather than Metropolitan completing their responsibility to deliver our missing possessions.) We have made numerous inquiries since May 7 for information about the shipment and were told by Mr. B[redacted] that he wasn’t at his office where the documentation was and that he would get back to us.  Needless to say, Mr. B[redacted] has not provided us any updates or documentation to date.  Mr. B[redacted] has not contacted us since May 7 despite our numerous calls to him.
5.  The bottom line is Mr. M[redacted] and his company, Metropolitan Moving & Storage, has failed at the responsibility to carefully and dutifully collect, store and load all of our possessions into the moving container.  Mr. M[redacted]’s reply note tries to place the loss of our possessions on the shoulder of [redacted].  Mr. B[redacted]’s emails to us provide contrary evidence to Mr. M[redacted]’s efforts to shift the blame off of Metropolitan.  This kind of practice is of poor form that is not conducive to better business practices.  At this point, we expect a full refund of what we paid Metropolitan along with all of our missing possessions and check for damages as promised, or $10,000.
Regards,[redacted]

Dear Revdex.com:This client has in fact received the check for $275 but has not reported that to you. This was an amount that both parties had agreed to as compensation for the additional time and minor damages. I will also note again that in addition to this check, we hired a cleaning service to fix this client's couch. Two months after this settlement, this client went back on our agreement and is requesting an additional $225. I am afraid it doesn't work that way, and we will not be issuing an additional check.I regret that it came to this, but I am confident that my company satisfied our end of the agreement.  Justin M[redacted]General Manager

Review: I paid $17,788.50 to Metropolitan Moving & Storage LLC to move, store and deliver my homeowner property (approx. 10,000 lbs) with disastrous results. On 9/30/10, Metropolitan collected 233 boxes (many containing numerous items)from my Washington DC residence and moved my property into storage under their supervision until 6/7/13. On 6/8/13, they delivered only 182 boxes to my new residence in [redacted], MD; 51 boxes were missing. It took several months to unpack and identify and quantify what was missing, as Metropolitan provided no item descriptions of what was in the boxes, where they had been stored (my property was moved around to several unknown locations) and no Inventory sheets. The missing/stolen property was valued at $26,320.00. The property that was delivered to my new residence was largely damaged- smashed glass tables, stained and dry-rotted upholstered satin bed, sofa, living room chairs, silk dining room chairs. The marble dining room table had large chunks of marble missing and the King mattress was rolled up like a "taco" and had to be discarded. I asked an [redacted] insurance claims expert to examine my property. Regarding Metropolitans Storage, she stated "there is evidence of lack of climate control, rust stains, water damage, dry-rotting, poor packing, improper storage and stacking, mishandling and damage during moving and delivery of property and complete lack of security." The total damages are valued at $33,343.00. A binder of over 100 pages of theft/damages was submitted to [redacted] Insurance, Metropolitan Moving and the [redacted] County Police Dept. Det [redacted] investigated this case (#[redacted]). Her report includes the missing/theft property (labeled "burglary"-unknown suspect)and the damaged property. Because Metropolitan was not forthcoming with information, she filed for a Grand Jury Subpoena for detailed records of where items were stored and what items were moved from one storage unit to another with sign-off sheets to account for property. This was not received.Desired Settlement: I request a refund of payments made to Metropolitan in the amount of $17,788.50. In addition, I demand payment for the property that Metropolitan damaged and destroyed, in the amount of $33,343.00. Therefore, the total refund demand is $51,131.50. [redacted] Insurance has worked with me on missing property that police labeled "burglary." However, they insist Metropolitan should be accountable for the damage/destruction to my property. To date, Metropolitan has never bothered to respond to my claim.

Response:

We moved, stored, and delivered this client’s household goods. Throughout our relationship, there were several instances where we went above and beyond to make her happy. We did not lose her boxes, and we sent a repairman out to assess and fix the damages she is referring to, all of which were minor. She has taken a very opportunistic approach to filing a claim after her move, presenting us with overwhelming figures and hoping some will stick. We were more than cooperative with the detective she sent, and nothing came of the accusations.

Based on our dealings with this client, we are honestly not surprised by the hyperbole of this complaint, and hope that consumers look to the abundance of perfect online reviews of ours for a more accurate portrait of our services.

Review: In July 2013, we came to an agreement with **. [redacted] B[redacted] of Metropolitan Moving & Storage (###-###-####, Rockville, MD) to ship our household belongings, two cars and motorcycle from our home [Germantown, MD] to our home in Ewa Beach, HI. Metropolitan came to our MD house three times to take our belongs to their storage facility in Rockville, MD. They loaded the 40' shipping container and the container left MD on November 13, 2013. We received the shipping container in Ewa Beach on December 5, 2013. Everything was received except for Box Number [redacted] a wall mirror, 2 bicycles, and a chest of drawers. **. B[redacted] found Box Number [redacted], and [redacted], the two bicycles, the wall mirror, and chest of drawers in his warehouse and said they were set aside while packing the other items into the 40' shipping container and were subsequently forgotten to be packed. To date, **. B[redacted] has not found boxes [redacted], or [redacted]. He said he was going to find another shipment coming to Honolulu and would have our items packed into that container. On March 26, 2014 he said our missing belongings had left Rockville, MD for Honolulu, Hawaii with an expected receipt date of May 5 or 6, 2014. To date we have not received our missing belongs. We have called **. B[redacted] numerous times since May 7, 2014 and have either not received a reply phone call or his response was that he wasn’t in his office to look at specifics in our file and that he would call back [but we have never received the promised call]. We don’t know if our belongings really left Rockville, MD or where it is in transit. To our knowledge, **. B[redacted] has not found our other 6 missing boxes either.

**. B[redacted] also had our 2001 [redacted] Sportster crated and placed in the 40’ shipping container. When we received the shipping container in Ewa Beach and had it uncrated, the motorcycle has suffered considerable damage [bro[redacted] headlight, twisted front fender, signal lights were not working, scratches on the muffler]. We had repairs to the motorcycle estimated at $1401. **. B[redacted] said he would refund the crating charges [$700] along with the cost of replacing a bro[redacted] glass pane on a Chinese calligraphy that we have. He said the refund would be credited to our credit card, and subsequently he would send us a check. We have left numerous phone messaged for **. B[redacted] about this matter – his reply on the few times we actually spoke to him was that the refund was in the mail. To date, we have not received the refund.Desired Settlement: Deliver our missing belongings

Refund us for the damage to the motorcycle and Chinese calligraphy [$800]
