We are still confused on why they applied for the apartment even after seeing the water heater in the closet? We ask all applicants about criminal or arrest issues because it's part of the credit application process.[redacted] checked (phone call) on the application and asked about the [redacted] gave her to [redacted], but she didn't leave [redacted] a message.I'm not sure what they mean by retired aged black couple feel like nothing? We've called them at least 3 times after we got the information back from [redacted]. They never took the time to call back. Sent an email telling us they found another home.[redacted]

When I first moved into an apartment in the care of Metzger, I was treated for the most part, fairly. When the onsite manager Emma met my mother who is fair skinned and green eyes, she was amiable and friendly. Prior to signing the lease, I asked her whether or not a portable washing machine would be allowed, as the lease did not stipulate that it wasn't. The onsite manager, Emma, stated that it would be fine, and even asked where she could acquire one for herself. During the move, she was nice, up until she met my father and step father, both of home are without a doubt, Mexican. My step-father does not even speak English. When my mother came to drop things off for me, Emma told her it would be okay to park outside my door temporarily so she wouldn't have to carry things from the street. She told me there would be small issues and to just let her know what needs fixing asap so it could be handled. She gave me her personal cell phone number to text her as that was the simplest way to get a hold of her After meeting my father and step-father, Emma, began to treat me differently. When I messaged her at 8:30 am, to let her know my toilet handle was broken the bedroom door was sticking, and that there was paint in my bathtub that was peeling, she replied "u woke me up for nothing.." and that maintenance would fix it next week. Five days later she accused me of throwing away unbroken boxes, even though I took extra measures on my boxes to cut them into smaller pieces, and threw garbage. She took boxes from the common dumpster and put them in front of my door. She then told me that after speaking with Shawna (the offsite manager) she changed her mind on the washing machine, and berated me for letting my family park inside the complex and for buying the washer and dryer out asking first.

I had asked Shawna about the procedure to add someone to the lease, as my boyfriend and I were becoming serious, and she informed me that I would have to give 30 day notice to vacate, as she doesn't do add ons. At this time I passively began searching for a new apartment, to move into in upcoming months, and saw that my current apartment was still listed as available.

Although I signed the lease on the 6th of January, I did not receive my copy until after chasing down both the onsite and offsite managers, Emma, and Shawna, who after a bit of telling me to ask the other one, eventually agreed to send me "another copy." That day I came home to a written notice taped to my door stating I was in violation of my lease since my boyfriend had spent the weekend over, and that I had to get rid of the washer and dryer that were unopened in my living room. She stipulated that family cannot stay the night. I spoke with her in person regarding this stipulation, at which point she told me that I had moved out to be alone, and that if I wanted to see my family to go to their houses and not bring them here. She continued "if you want to see your mom, go to her house."

After getting my copy of the lease, and going through it I messaged Shawna asking her why the washer wasn't allowed, if the lease stipulated that any water from drip drying clothes needs to be wiped up, and that although there was space for it, the washer was not listed on things not allowed. I also let Shawna know that I needed a better definition of the overnight rule, so I could prevent any violations, and let her know that Emma's behavior was beginning to feel like harassment. I let her know I was uncomfortable with Emma knowing what trash I threw away and was not okay with her dictating whether or not my family could see me in my home, even just to visit, not stay overnight.

Shawna refused to reply via email, stating that "I am unable to address this situation via email, I want to have a conversation with you so that you don't misunderstand me"

I attempted a call to Shawna, at which point I informed her that all phone conversations would be recorded. I asked for her consent to be recorded, she said it would depend on who she was talking to. After identifying myself, she declined consent, I requested that she email me, and disconnected the call.

Shawna never replied to my messages, and when I got home, I came home to a termination of tenancy notice with 30 days to leave.

2/8/2016 Emma messaged me demanding a copy of the walkthrough paperwork, which she had already photographed. I told her I could get it to her in a few days, at which point she threated to wait outside my house, and state that "your ignorant comment is only to be expected from someone like you." she also informed me "it will be a great day when you leave the complex. lol...is not a problem because I will be at your door, .. and remember your days are numbered." after I questioned what she meant by that she told me not to bother her anymore and that "this can be considered harassment". I feel harassed and threatened by her comments.

I replied that her threats, insults and discrimination could all be considered harassment, to which she replied "lol..have a good day.."

When I attempted to pay the final rent on 3/3/2016 (which they incorrectly prorated) Emma hit me and screamed obscenities at me. I called the police and have filed a report for assault. I messaged Shawna to try to get some sort of resolution, but she refuses to speak to me other than to say she wants a face to face private conversation and doesn't consent to recordings.

I left a deserved negative review of this business on facebook, describing my experience of being hit by a property manager and their response of ignoring me; to which they replied that they're not racist because they have latinos on staff and threatening to report me as a spammer. When I pointed out that I didn't mention anything about race in my review, they blocked me.

Nothing has been handled in a professional manner, and I now fear that they will come up with excuses to keep my security deposit, even though I'm leaving the apartment in better repair and cleanliness than when I received it.

Review: My partner and I believe that we were a victim of a scam to take our $60s, show us a unhealthy unit for rent, (water heater in Br.) And repeatedly question our non-existent criminality. We want our funds returned.Desired Settlement: Refund!
