Mr& Mrs***MIB has tried to answer your compliant previously, unfortunately not to your satisfactionWe have searched our disclosure records and our requests to use our Policy Locator Service (life insurance policy searches) and can't find evidence of your request under the names of *** *** or *** ***If we are in error, and you are speaking about our life insurance policy locator, I assure you we have never received an application for this, nor obviously have we received any form of payment from you in exchange for these services.Unless you can state your claim more clearly so we can identify your claim, I will consider our previous answers adequate as there is not much more I can do.Sincerely,*** ***Director of Corporate Communications

The customer's description of our services are not accurate. As described in excruciating detail at ***, the fee is for the search and MIB does not offer refunds on this service. This is something that the customer acknowledged and agreed to prior to ordering (twice)

Consumer File, and to correct any inaccurate or incomplete information.  As a nationwide specialty consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, there is no charge to request a free copy of your MIB Consumer File once per year directly from MIB. Only you can request an MIB Consumer File on yourself (therefore, Mrs. [redacted] will need to request her own file separately). In addition, in the event that you have received an adverse underwriting decision letter from an insurer indicating that an MIB record influenced the underwriting process which resulted in your application being rated or declined, then MIB will provide you with an additional free copy of your MIB Consumer File (in addition to your free annual copy). We have checked our records and it does not appear that you or Mrs. [redacted] have obtained copies of your respective MIB Consumer Files.  If you would like to do so, you can visit www.mib.com for more information or call our toll-free line at 1-[redacted].  After you obtain your MIB Consumer Files from MIB, we will provide you with instructions on how to seek a correction or modification of any information that you feel is inaccurate or incomplete. If this does not address your complaint against MIB, please email us directly at [redacted] with additional details so we can better understand the nature of your complaint.  Thank you. [redacted]Director, Marketing & Corporate CommunicationsMIB

Normally MIB does not respond publicly to complaints as we prefer to deal with our customers directly.  However, there are numerous inaccuracies in this complaint that I will address.  First, to order a Policy Locator report, the subject of the search must be deceased (and must be proven...

to be deceased during the ordering process).  So it would not be possible for the complainant to search "...[redacted] and [redacted]" of the deceased as she states unless they were also both deceased.   Even then, these would require separate fees to search.  Second, to order a search on someone you must have a stated interest (close relative, executor of a will, etc...).  So, it would not be possible for the complainant to search on the neighbor of someone.  MIB would not disclose information under those circumstances.   And third, MIB does not have a system in place to do a "Pre-Search" to see if any information is available prior to paying the fee.  You can order a search and we will conduct a search, but the search is done entirely offline and we are not able to tell anyone ahead of time that information is or is not available.   The system simply is not built that way, so I do not know what the complainant is referring to in this instance when she says that MIB told her "information had been found and readily if I pay $75 each to receive report".  This is simply not true.   The scope of the search is described in extreme detail at [redacted].  And, as described in numerous places on this website, the fee is to cover the cost of conducting a search and there are no refunds.
