Michael Harris MD Reviews (1)

Review: In 2012, I had 5 pair of older prescription glasses whose lenses needed to be updated to stronger lenses, with my new prescription. Two of frames were updated with new lenses, and I was satisfied, so I have them the other 3 to also update to the new lens prescription. Upon receiving the second batch of frames, I noticed that I could see well with the original two frames, but not with the second batch of 3 eyeglasses. I communicated this with the eyeglass shop directly, and he rejected my complaint. After a few months, I decided to have the lenses of all 5 pair measured by other centers, and I have since learned that the second batch of 3 frames never had updated lenses placed, as you see below:1. My ophthalmologist's office, Dr. [redacted] at [redacted] in [redacted], NJ, measured them in August 2013 and confirmed that 2 of frames had been updated with the 2012 prescription, but the last 3 pairs had not--meaning that they still contained the original weaker lenses. I provided the measurements from Dr. [redacted]'s office to [redacted]'s Optical shop. He rejected my complaint again, and stated that my ophthalmologist's measurements were not correct, because doctors' machines are not accurate.2. In September 2013 Walmart Optical Shop in Union, NJ, confirmed the measurements provided by Dr. [redacted]'s office, meaning that only 2 of the 5 frames had been fitted with the proper lenses. The other 3 had my original lens strength. I have the prints of those measurements.3. I also went to Pearl Vision in Springfield, NJ, and they also confirmed that 3 pair of the glasses have weaker lenses, meaning that they are not the same as the other 2 pairs.I would like to bring to your attention that when [redacted] Optical Shop updated my first 2 pairs of glasses, I was given the old lenses back. With my second batch of 3 frames however I was never given back the old lenses. As you can see, my ophthalmologist and 2 other optical shops have confirmed that the second batch of 3 eyeglasses still have the original lenses, and I was never given back the old lenses when I picked up the second batch, as I had been with the first batch. I have my credit card statement showing that I have been charged for 5 pair, but as you see I was provided only with 2 pair of frames that had the proper updated prescription lenses. I would be glad to communicate any further information that might be needed. I am reaching out to you since I tried to resolve this with the optical shop directly and did not succeed. I am not asking for my money back, I simply would like to have the proper prescription lenses put into the frames that I paid over $1000.00 for. If I am not able to reach an amicable solution through Revdex.com, I will be contacting my credit card company to dispute the charges. Also, I would like to mention that this has not been only an insult to my intelligence, but also I trusted this firm on my eyes. Driving with those unchanged lenses I could have had an accident or any other issue.Looking forward to hearing from you soon,[redacted]###-###-####Desired Settlement: It is mentioned in my complaint.

Response:

This is in response to the October 4th, 2013 chargeback reference ( )in which the cardholder claims that 3 of 5 pairs of eyeglasses were not as described. As a result of this dispute, Chase continues to hold $1044.00 from the account of [redacted] Optical pending its resolution.

I take issue with the cardholder’s portrayal of the events. In March and April of 2012, she brought in her eyeglass prescription from Dr. [redacted] of the [redacted]. [redacted] to be filled using her existing frames. Over the course of several weeks, my optician proceeded to put Varilux lenses into five of her existing frames. The lenses for all five were ordered according to that prescription. Her glasses were fitted with Varilux lenses, meaning the prescription changes in strength gradually from the top of the lens to the bottom, to allow distance, midway and close vision, all in the same glasses. She was in our ofiice several times, picking up, paying for, and dropping off more eyeglasses to be completed. We assumed she was pleased because of all the repeated transactions. I was unaware of any major dissatisfaction.

In. early September 2013, sixteen months her final payment, we learned another optical dispenser recently reviewed the ienses with an Auto-Lensometer to determine their prescription. However, Varilux lenses must be placed in the absolute correct location for the Auto-Lensometer to read the prescription reliably. The reading will vary if the technician verifies the eyeglass away from the optical center. In other words, by placing the Varilux incorrectly in an Auto-Lensometer, the technician could easily misread. the prescription on her Varilux lenses. My optician believes this is what happened. This would explain an inaccurate reading of the lenses.

My optical department has served the community at the same location for over 20 years without a complaint filed. with any credit card company or agency of any kind. We are proud of our history of putting the patient first, and have many people referring their family and friends to us over the years. We do not advertise at all, and rely strictly on referrals. That is how Mrs. [redacted] came upon our ofiice.

As the customer states in. her complaint to the Revdex.com (see attached), she does not seek a She would like additional lenses made. In the interest of customer service and good will, we will meet her request, as stated in her complaint, to have three pairs of glasses remade. At this time, I ask you to reverse the chargeback, and reimburse my account in the amount of $1044.00. I have addressed all her concerns and instructed my optician of seventeen years to remake the glasses. We would like to resolve this matter as soon as possible. Please have Mrs. [redacted] contact our office at ###-###-####.

Response:

Thank you so much for the follow up. I would like to discuss my concerns regarding the response from [redacted] Hanis Optical.1. Their response and reasoning about the measurments from the other providers is absolutely irrelevant and insulting. Baseds on their statement the other providers' (including my priscribing ophtomologist's office whom I trust on my eyes) machines are not as accurate as theirs. On the top of that, I got measurements from Walmart, Pearl Vision (Lens Crafters), and a free standing optical shop in New Providence. Does [redacted] Optical claim that all of these four sources do not have accurate measuring tools? I absolutely reject their statement and ask them for an opology.

2. Regarding their offer to redo my lenses, unfortunately because they did not rspond to my dispute timely (within two weeks assinged by Revdex.com) and because I had a new prescription for htis year, I have already changed the lenses on all of my 5 pairs. With all the respect that I have for their offer, it is not working for me any more.‘

Sincerely, [redacted] J [redacted]
