In response to this complaint, I can only say that this young lady purchased a year old vehicle with almost 160k miles on it that was being sold "as is" with no reserve at auction on *** with no asking price but to be sold to the high bidder regardless of the priceAs per our description, the
car was in very good mechanical condition with no major issues to be mentionedAs per our terms and conditions listed in our ads, the cars are not put in a shop prior to sale but sold according to our experience as dealers after driving them and wear and tear and routine maintenance items are not guaranteedOur customer paid in full immediately for the car and the car was transported from us in the Philadelphia area to Kansas where our customer livedUpon arrival in Kansas, the customer notified me that the car was smoking from the motor compartment and she was taking it to a mechanic to diagnose the problemI told her at that time that it sounded like a valve cover gasket, a routine maintenance item that is not something deemed as unsafe or constitutes a motor problem but a leak from a valve cover gasket that with a car of that vintage would be a thingA valve cover gasket would cost approximatley $- $to replace and there would be no issues after thatI did in fact tell her that we would work with her to repair the car and settle the repair work amicablyThe mechanic she took the car to sent her an estimate of over $for this repair and she asked that I pay for it as I had agreedIf the estimate had been realistic for the valve cover replacement, I would have gladly reimbursed her however the repair cost was half of what she paid for the car which was thousands of dollars less than it's book valueAt that point I saw no reason to continue the dialogue regarding this complaintWe have been selling on *** for more than eight years and have successfully sold more than cars and our feedback reflects how we conduct our business with more than positive feedbacks and only negatives for minor reasonsShe has left negative feedback for this transaction stating that the car had a bad "head gasket" which is not the case as head gasket is a major repair but in fact the car needed a valve cover gasket which is a minor repair and should be regarded as routine maintenanceThe valve cover gasket can be done at most any mechanic for in the $area and I would have gladly refunded her that amount however to ask for $is a bit unrealisticWhen a person buys a car in Philadelphia and buys it at auction "as is" with no asking price and no reserve price ans has the vehicle shipped sight unseen to Kansas, a certain amount of risk should be expected.Respectfully,Michael M***ownerMichaels Auto CenterNew Hope, Pa***
