I want to apologize for the poor experience you had in my storeI find it unacceptable that you were put in a situation where you left my store dissatisfied, and exceptionally problematic that you felt mistreated by my staffOur sales staff is supposed to be there to assist you by courteously
presenting you with the best options available and offer their professional advice in an attempt to address your needs. I talked with *** about what happenedYou came to our store wishing to exchange a pair of size 1/Wide shoes you had purchased from us for a pair that fit betterYou stated that you had tried on the pair you were returning at home and that you believed they were too shortThe style you were returning was an very appropriate style for your needs and since you wanted a size that would give you more length, our salesman *** brought out the same style in the next half size larger, a size WideAfter trying on this pair you felt they were too bigHe suggested that the looseness you felt could be solved by trying the size but in the slightly narrower “Medium” width, for that may give you a more secure fitYou did not want to try on the Medium width, insisting that because you only wore Wides it would be inappropriateYour reluctance to trying on this alternative size, which was the only logical alternative to addressing the looseness you were experiencing, essentially brought to a close our attempts to get you a proper fit in the shoe you wantedIt contradicted your desire to get a shoe that was larger but not too largeIt also stymied ***’s attempt to make available to you all possible optionsAlthough this created a frustrating situation for him, I do not find it acceptable to let that frustration be vented towards you. It is clear that in your case we did not live up to your expectations and both *** and I are sorryIt was ***’s intentions to assist you and offer his advice, not his intention to make you feel uncomfortable or make a sceneYou are correct, the customer is always rightIt’s your hard earned moneyYou have every right to accept or decline our suggestions and advice, and we should always respectfully honor your choices

the manager related the story as the salesman related it to him, this is certainly not my memory of the eventIf the stores response is to be construed as an apology, it is insufficient. on balance I reject the stores response, however, I want to move onI thank the bureau for it's consideration*** ***
