Mid-County Home Remodeling Reviews (2)

Dear Revdex.com,Mrs [redacted] contracted Mid County Remodeling to do some repairs on her house.  I have enclosed a copy of the contract, a letter she sent us in the mail, and our response to her letter. My wife and I went to her house.  She told us she wanted carpet removed in hallway approx....

11' X 9', study approx. 10' X 8' and master bedroom approx. 14' X 12'.  She knew she had sub floor damage in hallway because sub floor was raised up higher.  She wanted us to remove sub floor and repair and check sub floor in study and master bedroom.  After walking on floor we discovered it was very sturdy in study and master bedroom.  We recommended for her to change out sub floor in hallway and to wait until we removed carpet and pad in study and master bedroom and we would cut out a 4' X 4' spot in study and master bedroom and check for rotten joist.  If we found any there would be an additional charge. We went to her house and removed carpet, pad and sub floor in hallway.  We found some rotten joist under sub floor.  We showed Mrs [redacted] and we repaired joist.  Then we installed new sub floor. When we returned to finish the study and master bedroom she informed us she wanted all the wood floor removed in the study and master bedroom and did not intend to pay more money. We had already paid for labor and material to repair joist and install new sub floor in hallway.  They also hauled off all old debris.  We also purchased carpet and pad for hallway, study and master bedroom.  We were charged a restocking fee for the carpet and pad.  When we returned she demanded we remove all wood floor or give her some of her money back.  [redacted] informed her that was not what was agreed to in the original contract.Mrs [redacted] asked [redacted] to leave her premises she would contact another contractor to finish job.  He informed her that is not how we do business.  We had a contractual agreement and we wanted to fulfill our contract.  She informed [redacted] she would think about it and call him back the next day.  [redacted] received a call the next day and she said she decided she wanted to hire another contractor to finish the job.  She wanted all wood floors removed or not to come back. Thanks,[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:  When Mr. [redacted] came to my home the first time, I took him into my computer room and said, "My sister-in-law stepped on the floor and said "Your floor is gone."  I had already replaced the floor in one bedroom, so I said to him, "Since I am going to replace this floor, I am going to go on and replace the other bedroom floor to keep from tearing my house up again."He presented to me the attached contract.  All three areas are listed in Item #1 and Item #2 says install new sub floor.  I interpreted that to mean he was going to do what I had requested verbally.  Never would I have agreed to $4,000 for carpet only, which cost $585 plus installation (about $200).
Sincerely,
[redacted]
