Mid South Coatings Reviews (8)

Troy is being nice with his review of Mid South Coatings. I am Troy's wife, and I want to add to his review.

To start off with, we have been painting our own house for as long as I can remember. However, I am currently battling Breast CANCER and my husband is getting older, so we bought in to the whole idea of getting our house painted with a life-time warranty by professionals. Being taken advantage of by a shoddy company while I am dealing with my own health issues is more than anyone should ever have to deal with. With all my medical bills now being topped off by losing money with Mid South Coatings my stress level is over the top. Plus, we still have to figure out how we are going to change bad wood and paint my house.

What kind of company is okay with taking advantage of people?

When my husband asked for a refund of our deposit, he was told NO. When he asked to get the paint that had been mixed for my house to get something out of our deposit, he was told to get the paint it would cost him another $10,000. This company has no business ethics and has no trouble kicking clients when they are down! They are certainly the most unprofessional company we have ever dealt with.

Dealing with breast CANCER is bad enough, dealing with Mid South Coating is worse! At least CANCER never pretended to be anything more than it was. Mid South Coating claimed to be far more than they are!

STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM MID SOUTH COATINGS

Mid south started at my home on July 29, House prep was what they called it. A 2 man crew showed up @ 8:30 to meet with me, we went over what they were supposed to do, pressure wash the house, change any bad wood, ect. so they started the washing at 9:15, then at 10:13 I get a text that they were done washing my house and would contact me if they were working Friday, Now I have a big house and it takes me and 3 others with 2 washers 2 days to clean my house and these guys did it in less than an hour. so I checked the vids of my security system and confirmed what I suspected, yes it was a sy performance by what mid south calls their ace crew, I do not trust these guys and stopped the job, if this what the prep is going to be I can only imagin what the paint job will be, needless to say I ask for my deposit back and Kevin said there no way that is going to happen, so I am letting you know if you want a profesinal paint job STAY AWAY FROM MID SOUTH

I'm glad I read these reviews. I had an appointment with Mid South Coatings and after reading all the problems people had with them I canceled my appointment. I don't want to deal with an unprofessional company or one that I would have any headaches with.
Thank you for your reviews.

My experience with Mid south coatings was far worse than I could have imagined. It took months, rather than days, as they promised. The work was shoddy, they were very unprofessional, they didn't complete the job, and now my house is leaking again. Almost $10,000, and all I got was a small painted house and a bunch of head aches.

Review: We received a "final" bid for replacing dry, brittle siding and painting house. Salesman [redacted] could not bid the siding work bc he is only trained on bidding painting. Project manager [redacted] came out to see siding work involved, then we got final bid. After job was started and there was additional siding needing replacing, called [redacted] out to see after 1st coat of primer was on. [redacted] admitted he told [redacted] to bid 1,500 ln ft of siding to be reaplced, & [redacted] bid 500 ln ft to get the job. [redacted] said [redacted] unerbid the job. When [redacted] realized it should have been included in final bid, he said next coat primer would cover. After 2nd coat primer, boards still scaling & peeling. [redacted] came out again & said final coat of color would cover. After final coat, boards still scaling & peeling. We paid them $7,200 after primer bc [redacted] swore it would cover. Now they want additional $7,200 for completion of work. We will not sign off on job and will not pay when boards are scaling! They want $7,200 then they will do more work for an additional $1,600. They are trying to say it is "unforseen damaged wood". Replacing the brittle siding was part of original bid! [redacted] admitted [redacted] underbid the job! [redacted] knew we were getting a vinyl siding estimate, and so he bid too low to get the job. This is the most unprofessional company we have ever hired, and the owner is behind the whole scam!Desired Settlement: We just want the job done right, and then we will sign off on completion of work and pay them second installment of $7,200.00.

Review: COOLWALL SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED ON 05/22/2013. MID SOUTH COATINGS AND TEX COTE CLAIM PRODUCT REDUCES WALL TEMP UP TO 40 DEGREES. Salesman come by on June 16 and took a temperature reading of 90 degrees. A five degree difference. He had nothing to say about the poor performance of the product. A memo was sent to Mid South Coating and Tex Cote but I never received a response. A lot of money for a product that does not delivery as advertised. Could have gone to Home Depot and bought paint and did the job my and save thousand of dollarsDesired Settlement: a partial refund for the product or reinstall product so I can get the cool wall as advertised.

Business

Response:

First off, the salesman never took a temperature reading in May 2013 before the application of our products. Therefore, we have nothing to compare the temperature to for reference. But all of our customers can go to the Texcote website click on the banner Coolwall energy savings & then click on energy savings. Our customers can do the same on our Reflect-Tec banner. All of our energy data is based on comparison to traditional paints in the same color. In this case if the brick or awning were painted the same orange or brown the differentials might be greater than 5 degrees. In the case of the Reflec-Tec the qualifying statement is always ( when compared to acrylic/elastomeric coatings & uncoated roofs in many colors ) In all cases the qualifying statement is ( percentage of cooling cost, peak cooling load & surface temperature reductions will vary based on color chosen, geographical location, climate condition & substrate type.)

If you look at our chart which shows the reflec-tec total solar reflectance values (TSR ) & solar reflective values (SRI) the values are vs conventional paint & show the increase in reflectivity of RT versus conventional paint.

Review: Mid South miss represented a number of things to me. The most important one is now that the work is finished and the warranty papers have arrived. The warranty is voided due to the type of siding on my house. Wood fiber composite hardboard voids the warranty, if they knew this before hand why was I not told? Especially since they had to replaced ALL the wood on my house before painting. I had a lot of rotted wood. I could have chosen a different type of wood or gone with vinyl. The next problem was the men working on my house doing the wood work were not carpenters but sub-contracted painters. I know this because they gave me their business card. When we had complaints about the amount of rotted wood being replaced, the owner said we were not qualified to make that determination. Our response to him was " What qualifies your painter who is not a carpenter?" After going around about that he finally gave in and replaced all the rotted wood since we would not proceed with any work. Also beware if you hire Mid South that they do not have an electrician on hand. So if any electrical boxes need to be moved to replace rotten wood or even to paint behind it, they do not . Rotted wood will be left there which is not covered by warranty and there will be no painting. My son in law does electrical work and they would not replace the wood there even through he offered to remove my circuit box. I also have hurricane shutters and they will not remove them to replace rotten wood nor paint. You are responsible for doing this . None of the was told to me before I signed the paper work. They also painted my house on a rainy day. We had spotted showers that day and when I went outside to look at what they were doing I showed the workers that the paint was running form the rain drops . When the paint dried they had to sand some spots and retouch the paint. But it is showing up again, I can see the run spots. Also according to Mid South's paperwork they do not do any corking on each lap of sidDesired Settlement: Due to the fact they did not inform me about warranty voided by the wood replaced on my house, I would like it in writing that they are still going to honor the FULL warranty. If this can not be done then a refund.

Response:

When the contract was signed on 4/15/14 Midsouth Coatings was NOT removing any wood. We were applying our flex-patch product to repair the damaged boards. ( see notice of additional work ). After some boards were repaired the customer was not happy. She "demanded" we replace some boards. Midsouth , agreed to satisfy the customer to replace several boards. ( at no charge ) . Once those boards were replaced ,at no charge she once again demanded the WHOLE home be replaced. Midsouth coatings is in business to satisfy & exceed our customers expectations. Therefore, we replaced ALL the boards at no additional charge. As far as my paint crew, all of my crews are 1099 subcontractors. Midsouth is a exterior coating / painting company. We have nothing to do with electric boxes. This is the customers responsibility. They knew this & agreed that her son in law would handle. As far as her shutters being removed, we told her that if we removed it would void the warranty from her shutter company. Her son in law was to handle. We have been to the home, & no spots are "running". We will honor the warranty on her wood fiber board, at no additional cost. Attached is the Contract Completion Certificate that was signed on July 1st stating the customer was completely satisfied.

Regards,

This is not true. I have a copy of the sheet [redacted] gave to the painters on which boards were to be replaced. We disagreed with the amount being replaced as [redacted] knew the whole house was in bad shape. The painters were trying to piece rotted wood with cuts of other wood removed from my house along with other wood from different jobs. I have pictures of everything to back up my claims. The other work sheet shows I had no other work done that would cost extra. The cost of my contract states that it includes all rotted wood to be replaced . But this is not the biggest problem. The WARRANTY being void due to the type of wood. Show me were your paper work I signed and received prior to the job being finished says anything about it not being covered. Only informed when job done and received warranty papers.

Response:

As stated in previous response. The warranty will be honored .

Review: After 1 month of starting on my house they can still not fix the issues with the texture on my house. It has been 2 weeks sense anyone has been to my property. My house has taped windows, gutters removed, fence boards removed, and a taped and covered tankless hot water heater. The plastic has now been sucked into the water heater through the vents. I believe this company has the ability to do good work on a timely manner but fails on the execution. It is very hard to get into contact with them.Desired Settlement: We are requesting a full refund on the amount we have paid to this company so we may hire another business/contractor to complete this job correctly.

Response:

The job started 3/23/16. After 2 days of preparing the home for our products, one of the owners approved our prep.( see signed certificate dates 3/25/16 ) The following day we applied our classes "smooth" primer to the walls. The following working day we applied out "top-coat". We cleaned the job & scheduled a final walk-around to have the owner sign the completion certificate & collect the final payment. During this walk around the owner was not happy because he could still see the "hair-line" crack in his stucco. We informed him that would always be "somewhat" noticeable. He "claims: the sales rep told him that would not be the case. ( All reps are trained by me, & are aware that our product will NOT hide ANY "imperfections" on the substrate.) The owner requested that management look at his home. I sent my field operations manager to his home to evaluate. After which time we explained the substate was TOTALLY sealed, but we could not "hide" all imperfections. Customer still not happy. Therefore, at NO EXTRA charge MSC offered to apply a "textured" primer & to reapply the top-cote. All at no extra charge. Owner agreed to try the new texture. After applied , the customer again called us to inspect. We did & the primer was applied perfectly & looked nice. But, owner still not happy. Therefore we DID not apply the top-cote. We advised the owner that nothing could be done until the RAIN stopped & his walls were dry. It rained the week of April 4th & April 11th.The owner called & we explained we can not work when the substrate is wet or damp. The owner was not happy,we advised him that our Manufacturer rep would be in NOLA the week of the 18th. Owner was willing to wait to meet the rep. Because we had over a 80% chance of rain the week of the 25th, the rep rescheduled his visit to NOLE to the week of May 2nd. On 4/21/16 the owner contacted our manufacturer to discuss his options. Textured Coatings advised him of the reps travel plans.Later on the 21st of April the owner called the office & I spoke with him. Once again we revised the past month, he was still not happy. We then offered to go back to his home on the 22nd to "revisit" his concerns while we wait for the TCA rep. He does not want anyone on his property. Therefore what I "tried" to offer was; contract amount is $5,000 Customer paid to date $3,000So far the labor, material & commission paid is $2,677.71. MSC will refund the owner $322.29. We will need the owner to sign the addendum reflecting the changes.
