Midas Auto Experts-Fullerton Ave. Reviews (%countItem)

This is the absolute WORST place. I brought my 2014 *** here in December 2017 after I went to the dealer for some warranty stuff to get fixed. The *** dealer indicated my front pads and rotors were okay but would be going soon. *** told me my rear rotors and pads needed to be done immediately. I brought it to this Midas immediately after. I received a quote for about $250 to resurface the rear rotors and replace the pads in the rear- nothing to the front pads/rotors. I walked around in the cold in December with a 3 month old because when I told the employee I planned to wait (as I did not have a car) he said, "oh with that baby here?" FINE, I guess I'll leave. Walked around the neighborhood for 3 hours. When I left Midas in Dec 2017 my car had 27467 miles on my car. Brought my car back to *** for more warranty stuff in August and had 31,758 miles on it. *** did a once over of my car and they told me the rear rotors were shot and the pads were gone as well but some how I still had some pads in the front. I immediately said yeah sure whatever, I just had the rears done. I took it to another facility to have it checked. They told me the pads on the rear were manufacturer and never been replaced. My rear left brake rotor was so worn the brake was no longer working. He told me the rear brakes had never been replaced and the rotors were never resurfraced. As a result I had to pay $660 to get my rears fixed properly. When I called Pat, a manager, to say who is paying for this he claims pads can wear after 4,000 miles of city driving and that it is the driver's fault. I said, well if that's the case why do I still have some padding on my front pads but NONE left on my rear that were supposedly done?? He once again indicated it was the way the driver drove. Then he hung up on me. This is a safety issue as well as a fraud issue. Who would be responsible if I were to have gotten in a car accident and seriously injured someone?

Midas Auto Experts-Fullerton Ave. Response • Sep 06, 2018

I am responding to Revdex.com complaint ***, our store did a basic brake job on this consumers vehicle. We replaced rear brake pads and resurfaced her brake rotors. This occurred 12/2017.On 9/4/18 the consumer calls our store and begins to accuse us of not replacing her pads because a repair technician at a Car X repair facility told her the rear brake pads where original equipment. We offered to have her bring vehicle in to our location so we could inspect why the rear pads wore out prematurely, for example the brake calipers could be sticking, the brake hardware could be rusting and causing premature wear, their could be various possibilities. She would not listen to any reasoning, she became verbally abusive and my manager ended the call. The first point I’d like to make is that I have been a shop manager at 5 different Midas shops over a period of 28 years and I for the most part I could not tell you if a pad is original factory pads, or from various after market producers. From my experience most manufacturers of brake pads do not put their brand on the brake pad, they are generally a solid color, mostly black. So for a repair technician at any repair facility to say for certain what brand a pad is or how long it’s been on a vehicle would be at best a guess. Some after market manufacturers do brand their pads but that is not the norm. This consumer took that misinformation and will not listen to any other reasoning. We did nothing wrong in this case and performed a basic rear brake job, there has been a Midas operating at this location for over 45 years and we have always been honest with our customers and stand by the work we perform.Regards,Rick ***Midas on FullertonOwner

Customer Response • Sep 06, 2018

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because A) they never said they would look at the work and B) this is the email I sent this Midas facility yesterday, as requested by Edwin the manager I spoke with on Tuesday. Attached are the quotes I received. I can also send you pictures of the rotors but this only allows for 4 attachments at once.

Bottom line: I want my money they owe me for the add'l damage I needed to get repaired to my rears rotors/brakes.
Edwin,Thank you for talking to me yesterday. As you requested, I am sending you an email with a recap of the situation and what I am looking for as well as quotes and pictures. Here is a recap of what happened:Car Make: *** SL 2014Miles as of December 19, 2017: 27,467 milesMiles as of August 25, 2018 (when brought to Nissan): 31,609 milesMiles as of Sept 1, 2018 (when brought to *** for quote): 31,758 milesTime in between rear brake quotes/work: 8 months and 13 daysMileage in between rear brake quotes/work: 4,291 milesOn December 13, 2017 I went to the *** dealer to get some warranty stuff fixed and they indicated my front pads and rotors were okay but would be going soon. However, *** also told me my rear rotors and pads needed to be done immediately. On December 19, 2017 I brought my 2014 *** to Midas at *** W. Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647 to get the rear pads replaced and the rear rotors looked at. I received a quote from this Midas on Dec 19, 2017 for $244.55 to resurface the rear rotors and replace the rear pads- nothing to the front pads/rotors. I agreed to have them do the work that day to the rear pads and rear rotors for $244.55.I walked around in the cold in December with a 3 month old because when I told the employee I planned to wait (as I did not have a car) he said, "oh, with that baby here?" Fine, I guess I'll leave. I walked around the neighborhood for 3 hours. When I left this Midas shop on December 19, 2017 my car had 27,467 miles on my car. I brought my car back to *** for more warranty stuff on August 25, 2018 and had 31,609 miles on the car. *** did a once over of my car and they told me the rear rotors were shot and the pads were gone as well but some how I still had some pads in the front. I immediately said yeah sure whatever, I just had the rears done. I took it to another facility, a ***, to have it checked for a 2nd outside opinion. When I brought it to ***I did not tell them the situation I was working with which was, were the rear pads/rotors good or bad? *** told me the pads on the rear were manufacturer and never been replaced. They also told me my rear left brake rotor was so worn due to the pads never being replaced that the brake was no longer working. The same facility told me the rear brake pads had never been replaced and the rear rotors were never resurfaced. As a result I had to pay $660.24 to get my rears fixed properly. When I called Pat, a manager at the Midas facility at *** W. Fullerton Ave in Chicago, on Sept 1, 2018 to say who is paying for this add'l work I now need done to my rear brakes he claimed pads can wear after 4,000 miles of city driving and that it is the driver's fault. I said, well if that's the case why do I still have some padding on my front pads but none left on my rear that were supposedly done? He once again indicated it was the way the driver drove. Then told me he did not want my business and he hung up on me. Never once did he offer to look at the car. Before he ended the call I told him it was unsafe to drive and he never once offered to send out a technician to look at it as you claim he should have done. He never once told me to, if I needed to get the work done at another facility to my rear pads/rotors, to keep the used pads/rotors so you can confirm serial numbers. Pat claims he stands by this work but he obviously did not.As a result of my car now being unsafe to drive, I needed to get this work done immediately. I have reached out to the shop, ***, I recently had the work done to the rears to see if they have the parts still and am waiting to hear back. But honestly, I don't know why it matters? When we spoke yesterday you said it could have been a faulty part.So one of two things happened:1) The work I paid for your shop to do in December 2017 for the rear brake pads and rotors was never done.OR2) It was done but your shop put on either used or faulty brake pads which resulted in further damage to my rear brakes/rotors.
Either way this is not my issue and this is a result of your shop not giving me what I paid for. There is no way the rear brake pads would be completely worn after less than 5,000 miles and less than 1 year. Everyone I've spoken to regarding this, even corporate Midas agrees that at the very LEAST brake pads should last 25,000 miles even with city driving.Furthermore, this is a safety issue. Who would be responsible if I were to have gotten in a car accident and seriously injured someone or my own family?
Desired Outcome/Settlement Desired Settlement: Refund and Reimbursement of Add'l Charges. I want your shop to pay me for the $660.24 of work I had to do to get my rear brakes and rotors back to working order since your shop did not do the work I originally paid for. By not doing the $244.55 of work in December 2017 it caused further damage to my rear brakes and rotors. I will give you 48 hours, until Friday Sept 7, 2018, to reply with a response to this email.Steps I will be taking should I not hear back from you by Sept 7, 2018 or you choose to not send me payment of $660.24 for me to recoup the costs associated with this:-I will start proceedings for Small Claims Court. As well as contact the Attorney General's Office, Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s Consumer Protection Division and the local news to report your shop. -Corporate Midas will also hear from me everyday until they or your shop resolves this or we reach court.-Revdex.com: I have already reached out to the Revdex.com and will continue to draw attention to this situation if it not resolved properly and in a timely manner. however, should you send me payment of $660.24 I will inform the Revdex.com that this has been properly resolved and will cancel my complaint. -*** and other companies of the like offering your services: I will reach out to *** and inform them to not offer your location's services on their website as you do not stand by your work and, as a customer, I did not get what I paid for. Also, I will explain to them your shop left me in an unsafe situation with the state of my vehicle and you refused to fix the problem.-Alderman Joe *** office will hear a formal complaint from myself and others listed on *** regarding your shop. I did notice there are others on *** who have also noted they paid for work and it was not done. I will ask them to join me in resolving this situation. Please let me know what route you plan to go. I can assure you if this goes to court negligence will also be brought up.Attached are the following documents:-*** Estimate for Work: 12-13-17-Midas Estimate and Invoice for Work: 12-19-17-*** Estimate for Work: 8-25-18-*** Estimate for Work:9-1-18-*** Receipt for Work: 9-3-18-3 Pictures of Rotors 9-3-18Sincerely,
